Demi Lovato in Zuhair Murad
Watching the pre-show to this event made me feel so old! I didn’t recognize half of these acts and boybands. Who is everyone? The good part of that though means that this post won’t be as long, but we’ll still be sure to include our favorite looks of those… that are relevant to my time period. For some reason, I wasn’t able to watch the event as it was airing on the east coast so I’m currently watching this as we type and I had to stay off of Twitter for three hours to not be biased by anything I might read. My bff Tommy tells me it wasn’t great and that he stopped watching before it ended. What did everyone else think about the show though?
Not working with Kendrick when I had the opportunity to years ago is still in my top 5 regrets in life.
I mean c’mon… what is everyone listening to this weekend? It’s not streaming Coachella, it’s Kendrick’s latest release “DAMN.” It was the first thing I started playing when I arrived at the office yesterday and even as I fell asleep last night, I could’ve sworn that when I woke up this morning that the album was playing as the soundtrack in my dreams. Kendrick is extraordinary and I’m convinced that there isn’t ever a time when I get tired of hearing his music. I’m excited about this album. Okay, between him and Khalid, I’m still pretty amped up on Khalid, but favorite rap album of the year so far? Kendrick, of course. What is everyone’s favorite track? Even though “HUMBLE” is a great pump up jam, I really enjoy the slow ones like “YAH,” “LOVE,” and “XXX.”
Interestingly enough, we don’t have a lot of thoughts to share about this A Collection Part post. The last 3 months have been a blur, but a good one. I think we’ll have some thoughts that we can share tomorrow that we’re building up, but for now let’s just enjoy these.
Kendrick Lamar – Untitled 2
Taylor Swift – Bad Blood ft. Kendrick Lamar
Talk about some serious build-up, I feel like we’ve been waiting for this music video for over a week and the anticipation was only slightly killing us. I didn’t even see all of the celebrities that were featured in it. Meredith, were you even there?! It’s a pretty extravagant video, but here’s how we felt about it afterwards:
- More than ever, girls everywhere wish they could call Taylor one of their girlfriends
- Katy Perry, this song about you? If so, I think this is directed at you.
Kendrick Lamar – I
I’ve been jammin’ to this song for the last couople of weeks so I was so excited to be able to catch Kendrick performing this song on Saturday Night Live this past weekend. The only thing that creeped me out was his blacked out contacts. It made me feel like the kid from The Grudge was performing this. Kendrick is an amazing performer though. I caught him a couple years back at Bumbershoot and had an opportunity to work with him when I was doing some booking long ago. It’s great to see how far he’s come though! You may have to watch this video by clicking the link and opening a new window. Sorry – but worth it!
I’m about a month late on posting this video, but even those it isn’t timely, I didn’t want to NOT share it. This is one of my favorite songs off of Mayer Hawthorne’s latest album and Rashida Jones even directed the music video and had this to say about it:
The video is a parody of ridiculously exclusive parties which are made nearly impossible to get to but tout themselves as ‘the party of the year.’ I liked the idea of the video starting as a sexy getting-ready video and devolving into a messy, very unsexy, unexpected trek. And the final realization is that YOU are the real party! I’m just starting to realize that about myself (which is why I stay home most nights). I am a HUGE fan of Mayer, Kendrick and of the song “Crime” and it was an honor to work with Mayer.
Here’s crossing my fingers that he’ll be touring again this year!
