The Closet: December 2020

[The Kooples Medium Black Emily Bag Croco Print] – $450

I always think that this post isn’t necessary in the month of December because we already do the holiday gift guide, holiday party dress guide and New Year’s Eve outfit guide. Sometimes, the things we want just don’t fall into those three categories though. And because of that, here we are showing you the things you still might want for your closet. On a typical year, we would be looking forward to Boxing Day sales – traditionally the day after Christmas. It’s the time where I splurge on winter coats that I’ve been eyeing all season and the last of the sweaters before I head into spring. Though it’s not like us, we completely avoided the sales and the posts promoting them this year. Since I’ve been spending so much time at home, I decided to invest in items that would make living and working at home more comfortable for the foreseeable future. That being said, here are some things I’m sad to pass on.

[Zara Plaid Blazer] – $89.90 – $49.99

Sunday Farmer’s Market

I hit the jackpot when I found my home in San Francisco! Having loved my spot in Capitol Hill back in Seattle, I wanted a neighborhood that would remind me of exactly that. You can’t be too picky in a place like SF though. Between high rent costs, expectations, and a long lists of needs and wants, something has got to give! I wouldn’t say that it’s identical to Capitol Hill, but we got pretty close. For the last two years, I’ve grown quite comfortable with my routine of my weekend coffee, a quick trip to the local grocery, picking up breakfast and sometimes flowers.

I’m not a regular at the farmer’s market, but I do like to stop by every now and then. And I’m not [The Mill’s] biggest fan, but I like the way they make my coffee. Never a toast enthusiast, myself, I only stop by when I’ve got guests in town because seeing an $8 avocado toast is an experience in itself.

Let’s Get Cozy

Teddy Coat – Cupcakes and Cashmere / Denim – Levi / Boots – J. Crew

It’s unclear whether or not the teddy coat trend is here to stay, but for now I’m a fan of anything cozy. It’s not crazy to think that this coat is out of place here. In the city, it can actually be chilly enough for this and the wind is oh-so-unforgiving. On this particular day though, I will admit that I found myself getting a little bit sweaty with this over me. This caramel brown color makes you feel like the ultimate teddy bear and there’s no other color that I would choose over this one. It’s going to be perfect for your wintertime and late fall/early spring, but might be a bit much anytime outside of those periods. I’m generally someone that skews being more cold than warm so when I’m at the office and without a blanket, a jacket like this will come in handy.

Grandma Buddy’s Christmas Trees

Sweater – Urban Outfitters / Vest – Uniqlo / Belt – Madewell / Denim – Levi’s / Boots – J. Crew

Can it be? Christmas in July?! Or is it really just a backlog of posts that I’m still getting to from the winter? 😉

Every winter, I look forward to heading up to a Christmas Tree Farm with Mandi and Eric to help them find the tree of their dreams. It’s a different one each time and that’s what makes this such an adventure. We’ve headed north, south and east and each time this idea of finding a new tree is so entertaining to me. We leave the day after I get back from my SoCal Thanksgiving trip and this year’s venture was the best because it included both brunch before and wine tasting after – a first for us!

It’s a special tradition that we have and though we didn’t know it at the time, this would be the last time we’d be doing this as Mandi and Eric are off to New York City this coming fall! More on that later…

Out of all the outfits that I’ve worn to the Christmas Tree farm, this one is the best because it truly embodies my inner lumberjack. If I lived outside the city surrounded by trees, this would probably be my every day uniform. The dark elements to the outfit give it the rugged vibe, but this gold Madewell belt is sort of everything, isn’t it?!

Reflective

Sunglasses – Quay / Turtleneck – Aritzia / Denim – Levi’s / Sneakers – Nike

I’m now a woman in my late-20’s living in San Francisco and I love to run errands on the weekend. When I was living in South Bay, my car was my best friend. I would bop around to Santa Clara, Cupertino, Mountain View, and Palo Alto for all the things that I needed. The only weekends when I don’t have errands are when I’m traveling. In the city, I’m using my car less and running errands by foot. My weekend uniform tends to be different from what I wear on the weekdays. For one, it’s darker. On top of that, it just is more functional. I feel like what I’m wearing allows me to be more flexible and there’s room to stretch – especially in my Nike Flyknits. I love how this outfit makes me feel stealth. These are my usual staples, but Winny was in town this weekend that we took the photo and these are her Quay sunglasses for that added pop of color!

Not Over the Crop Top

Top + Bralette – Aritzia / Denim – Levi’s / Sunglasses – Marc Jacobs / Heels – Vince Camuto

[One more photo under the cut!]

I love this outfit for a casual weekend. I wore this to brunch at Plow with my friend Leslie earlier this spring and really didn’t need the cover-up I’m holding. I’m still getting used to San Francisco weather so I always bring something for my shoulders just in case, but then never end up using it. These jeans have become my absolute favorite. They were an inexpensive purchase, but in addition to that are high-waisted, fitted, and in a wash that goes with just about anything. I decided to test the waters by wearing a cropped Aritzia striped top that is great for just throwing on with anything for a casual day look. I was a little bit nervous about the undergarment situation though. Typically, I hate any undergarments showing at all, but this Aritzia one actually worked well! It almost looked like it was its own under-tank. To spice things up, I used a piece of suede to tie around my neck as a choker, my Marc Jacobs’ sunglasses and tan Vince Camuto wedges to brighten things up!
