2021 SAG Awards

Lily Collins in George Hobeika

I’ve officially made up my mind and it’s that I prefer these shots to the typical red carpet. The red carpet every year for every award show is always the same. At least with these shots, we get to see a little personality and a whole lot of creativity from the actors and actresses. Out of the awards shows that have happened so far, SAG has been my favorite with some of the most stand out looks particularly from the men. We’re even more excited now for what’s to come with the Oscars!

Golden Globes 2021

Lily Collins in Saint Laurent

As painful as it was to sit through the awkwardness of the Golden Globes yesterday evening, I’m still supportive that it even happened at all. How is it possible that in a year where we had all the time to watch these films and television series that it feels like we barely scratched the surface? Yesterday’s award show felt like an extension of my work day which made it hard to watch, but I’d sit through it all over again to celebrate the wins of “Minari,” Chloe Zhao and Chadwicke Boseman.

A red carpet wasn’t going to be like every other year, but I actually quite enjoyed everyone’s take on their own photoshoot. Here are a collection of looks and some of our favorites:

(Side note: I actually really loved Lily’s look, but it just missed the cut off in my top 5)

This Weekend:

What We’re Watching: Emily in Paris

Ahead of the show’s release, “Emily in Paris” was supposed to be a modern day “Sex and the City.” A couple of episodes in, I’m not seeing it. However, I am surprised at how quickly the show is growing on me. Lily Collins as “Emily” is your typical American girl from Chicago. Initially, she’s not likable. I find her fashion sense to be questionable for a show that’s supposed to be somewhat focused on fashion. What we like though is her intelligence, her ability to be quick-witted and her values. Overall that sort of beats the fashion and the Americanism, doesn’t it?

What We’re Listening To: BLACKPINK – The Album

After the premiere of “Ice Cream,” The Album is the refreshing release we needed. Though we’re only getting eight songs, two of which debuted over the summer, the album shows great potential. This is the girl group’s first full album release and next to BTS, they are the 2nd most successful South Korean group at the moment. Next up? Looking forward to their Netflix documentary out later this month covering their rise to fame.

What We’re Wearing: [BLANKNYC Good Vibes Faux Leather Moto Jacket] – $98

Now that fall has arrived, there are plenty of opportunities to wear my first ever faux leather jacket. I’ve considered buying one for years, but never truly thought I could pull it off. The Nordstrom Anniversary Sale this year was a good excuse to finally make the purchase!

What We’re Eating: Sweet Corn Ice Cream Sandwich

We’re getting past the point where it’s acceptable to still be eating ice cream sandwiches as we’re heading into the colder months, however, I saw these at a Korean market recently and had to try it for myself. I’m constantly amazed that this ice cream sandwich looks exactly like and tastes like corn with real corn pieces. It’s not as weird as it sounds. There’s even a thin layer of chocolate so that there’s no confusion that what you’re eating is sweet. As much as I consider corn my favorite type of vegetable, I never thought it would be good as ice cream. Turns out, it’s better!

2019 Met Gala Red Carpet

Liza Koshy in Balmain

I had to look up the “Camp” theme several times to figure out what it truly meant. I’m still not quite sure if I understand the definition of it. My takeaway is that it’s pink, tulle, and crowns and we do not hate it. In all honesty, I’m a huge fan of the pink carpet and I loved many of the looks from the evening. However, I will say that this year was the most extravagant. What I loved about previous years was how wearable these looks have been and instead it’s turned into a little bit more of a spectacle than I would have liked. Maybe that’s what the point of the Met Gala is. It’s supposed to be a showcase of whimsey and imagination and if that’s the. case then I will get on board next year, but for now I want to hold onto what I thought made this event on the first Monday in May every year so special.

2019 Oscars After Parties

Gabrielle Union in Valentino

If you thought the red carpet was the main event, think again! Coming up, you’ll find looks that are a little more daring. The slits are higher, hemlines shorter, and everyone that wasn’t invited to the actual event shows up for the party. These looks were designed for the after parties and it’s something to get excited about! Many of the nominees arrive to the after party events in a second look! Like every year, this year’s event was no exception and everyone looked grand.

Readers, any standout favorites for y’all?

2018 Met Gala Red Carpet

Amal Clooney in Richard Quinn with George by her side

Before I left the office tonight, my friend and coworker, Courtney, remarked that tonight’s Met Gala was the equivalent of a Super Bowl to anyone else. She wasn’t wrong! I put in the extra hours of work this weekend so that I could free up my Monday evening to work on crafting this post. Before I came home, I also went out for a glass of wine with a friend so that I could a) appreciate every look for the piece of art that is and b) to let my true opinions for every outfit shine through! Throughout the day in all my meetings, I was closely watching the coverage seeing bits and pieces here and there, but never spoiling it all for myself until I was able to digest it when I got home. I can’t imagine a better photograph to kick start this post.

This year’s 2018 exhibition was “Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination.”

To The Bone

Films about eating disorders will always make me a little bit uncomfortable. But at the end of the day, they are so important. It’s important for people to hear the stories, to know what it’s like, and what it feels like. I’ve been interested in these types of films lately because Lily Collins and Troian Bellisario are both staring in them and have both had eating disorders themselves so I know that the stories that they are portraying have a lot to do with their own experiences. I’m looking forward to seeing both their takes on it.

2017 Met Gala Red Carpet

I wanted so badly to get home early Monday evening so that I could have this post ready in time for Tuesday morning as a recap, but of course, we stayed at work a little bit later that night. The good thing about writing this post now though is that I feel like I’m not under a time crunch and I can really take my time with it.

Bee Shaffer is not exactly “in” the fashion world, but her mother is Anna Wintour and every year she continues to stun. This was one of my favorite looks from the evening. Here she is wearing Alexander McQueen with her fiance Francesco Carrozzini. #powercouple

2017 Oscars After Parties

Elizabeth Banks in Elie Saab (this is so unbelievably stunning)

Nobody loves a red carpet more than I do. (Well maybe Ryan and Giuliana) but I don’t mess around on award show days and Sunday afternoons with the red carpet have a special reservation in my day planner. However, while everyone is anticipating THE red carpet, I’m also getting ready for my second wave – the red carpet of the after parties. This is where some of the most daring looks of the night come out. We’ve been doing this post after the award shows red carpet for years so if you’ve been with us awhile, this is nothing new to you. However, if you are new – welcome.
