The Closet: September 2020

[RE/DONE Ribbed Tank] – $80

We don’t believe in no white after Labor Day so here are some favorite pieces included in this post. Also, talk about losing track of time here. It was only today that I realized, I hadn’t posted this and that we were way past due on it. I’ve combed through everything once more just to make sure that these pieces were still available. In the meantime, we’ll get started on October!

Holiday Party Wear 2019

Gift of Love Black Backless Long Sleeve Bodycon Dress – $46

I did a first pass at the mall last week for holiday party dresses and while I wasn’t looking too hard, nothing called out to me. That’s never a good sign. I also realized that for the first time this year, I’m not looking forward to holiday party dress shopping. Mainly, that might be because I realized that whenever you’re hunting for something specific or under a timeline, you’ll never find it. Hence the reason why I found a dress a couple years ago over the summer months.

That only works maybe 50% of the time. Retailers prepare for holiday party season and create collections that come out right about now. The positive is that you’ll have a lot to choose from, but run the risk of having wearing the same outfit as another attendee. This year, I decided to try something I’ve never done before. Before writing this post every year, I always look at last year’s. There happened to be a dress from my guide in 2018 that is still available that I decided to purchase. Sure, it’s last season or last year whatever. It is, however, on sale and still something I’m interested in. Here’s to hoping it fits and that it has a generous return policy if needed. If all else fails, at least we have this guide.

Holiday Party Wear 2018

For Love and Lemons Marquee Maxi Dress – $270

Every year, holiday party season always comes up so fast! I’m excited this year to have a true holiday party with my current company and the opportunity to dress up. As soon as I discovered the date, I was off to the races. There are actually so many options this holiday season that I’m swooning over, but the trouble with every year is that I have in my mind what I already want. The hard part of that is that it often times is hard to find where that exists. Since I hold onto that dream of a dress for so long, I often don’t find it and find myself stressing last minute.

This year’s party will be on a Friday – a first for me! It’s also unfortunately the first year where Mandi and I won’t be getting ready together. I’ll be using my new favorite startup Glamsquad for hair and makeup though which I can’t say enough good things about. Lastly, I’ve got a couple of ideas in mind for what I want to wear, but I’m not quite ready to share that yet. What I do know is that I want to stay away from lace if I can and sleeves because we did that last year. If things don’t work out for me, at least I’ve got a post to fall back on.

To get into the spirit of creating this post, I just looked at last years post and am surprised at how much my tastes have changed in the last year. Since my party is earlier, I wanted to start this post early. We’re also going to release it earlier than any other year prior. Enjoy!

What To Wear: Valentine’s Day

Camilla and Marc Adaptation Dress – $509.06

Happy month of love y’all! The big day is just around the corner and whether or not you’re expecting something or just letting yourself go and enjoying the moment, Valentine’s Day is a day where you should feel good about the way you look and for your significant other or whatever they call them these days. Typically, I prefer the red family – pink, coral, light red, etc. only because I don’t LOVE the color red. However, we’re gonna diverge a bit. Here are some of my favorite picks so if you don’t have anything special to wear yet, I guess you had better get on it…

What We’d Wear To Ring In The New Year 2012

With the holiday parties coming in before New Year’s Eve, we often times forget about what we’re going to wear to the big event. Well, we either forget or it turns out to be a last minute buy and for an event this big, it deserves our attention doesn’t it. Who am I kidding? Even this post is a little bit late because you’re going to be a little bit scrapped for time purchasing a dress now – but hey – I’m here for you. And I’m a hypocrite because I bought my New Year’s Eve dress last Sunday.

I’m sorry.

Let’s get started – we can’t waste anymore time.

What’s In A New Year’s Eve Dress?

When it comes to dresses, I am very particular. On my way to becoming what I like to call a “dress collector,” I believe in the importance of having the perfect dress for every occasion. New Year’s Eve has proven to be a challenge. I’ve never really had a FANTASTIC New Year’s. Sorry to the people I’ve spent it with in the past… you were all great company, but it wasn’t the event I thought it would be. Two years ago I was just sick and fell asleep on my couch before midnight. Last year, I roamed all over Capitol Hill in what I thought would be an appropriate New Year’s Eve dress. It was just a holiday dress.

So what MAKES a New Year’s Eve dress? Does it have to be sparkling? Sequins? Glitter? That’s never really been my style. I suppose that’s why I’m having a tricky time finding the right dress because I’ve always hated those dresses.

At first I thought I wanted a cutout. If only those didn’t go out of style two years ago…

Then I thought I wanted something flow-y and loose. Will that work in San Francisco?

Maybe I should try on a tight fitted body-con. There are way too many of those in the world.

I’ve been eyeing this lbd from LuLu’s all week. It is none of the above, but it’s much more me. I like the bubble detail, the weird faux looking lace that isn’t lace at the top and the cream belt that doesn’t come with the dress. That’s okay – I can find something for that.

Have any of you run into problems this year with finding the perfect dress to ring in the new year?
