Blast From The Past

Can you believe that this (top photo) Vanity Fair cover is 10 years old?! Oh how things have changed with our teen queens. A clever reader of my favorite gossip blog, Ohnotheydidnt, recreated the bottom cover to reflect where these stars are now 10 years later and  well – we can definitely say that it certainly isn’t as pretty. We’re talking about you Amanada Bynes!

Ten years ago, Vanity Fair put nine “teen girl stars” on its cover — fresh-faced and talented, these young women were ready to take over Hollywood (and maybe the world). From left to right, Amanda Bynes, Mary-Kate and Alshey Olsen, Mandy Moore, Hilary Duff, Alexis Bledel, Evan Rachel Wood, Raven-Symoné, and Lindsay Lohan filled a fold-out cover spread for the magazine’s June issue.

Oscars 2011

Natalie Portman in Rodarte

I’m pretty sure it’s impossible to be the worst dressed at the Oscars these days because just about everyone has a stylist. I can’t say anything bad about the gowns worn this year, but obviously there are some I like more than others.

2011 Golden Globe Awards

Olivia Wilde in Marchesa

Chocolate brown and gold sequins are the perfect combination for this Golden Globe gown. I don’t know if I’ve ever seen Olivia look this good! I also loved that she wore her hair down with her bangs since we are typically used to seeing it done up.

Mother Knows Best?

[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kJ0-utckUyg]

Colby Brin is a 31-year old single who believes that mother knows best when it comes to steering his love life in the right direction. His mother, Geri Brin feels that by helping out her son and launching a website for the cause that she is “casting a wider net.” Maybe she is, maybe she isn’t. I believe in the saying, “Two heads are better than one,” but what would you say if you were the girl who later found out that you were chosen by your guy’s mother?

This story reminds me of the Diane Keaton movie “Because I Said So,” and that was a god-awful movie because Mandy Moore should have stopped acting after “A Walk to Remember.” In that movie, Mandy’s character is “Milly” who is a quirky and awkward girl in a not-so-cute way. She’s the one that needs to have her foot permanently shoved into her mouth. When Milly’s mother Diane Keaton finds out about her horrible track record of dates, she decides to put up an ad for her daughter, which causes a whirlwind of drama later on.

Back to this story though, Colby seems like a decent-looking guy and I’m sure he could get by without his mother. I wonder what’s going to happen to him now that he has a website for this and him and his mother were on The Today Show? Reality matchmaking without the drama in a whole season.

Would you ever let your parents pick someone out for you?

It’s a music post!

My taste in music has gone through many phases. Let me just break it down for you.

Age 0 – 3 – – – – That Barney ish and the theme song to every children’s show. Let’s throw in.. Blossom. That’s not a kids’ show but it will do

Age 4-6 – – – – – Rap. I kid you not. My brother and I used to rap the songs to lyrics. Okay that’s a lie, maybe he rapped the songs and I was the chorus that the female usually sang. Mariah Carey, 112, Ginuwine, Tupac, Biggie, Mase, Blackstreet,

Age 7-9 – – – – – – Spice Girls and your typical pop, mainstream radio.

Age 10-13 – – – – – Britney, Christina, Mandy, Jessica, N’Sync, Backstreet Boys, M2M, BBMak lulz.

Age 14 — – – – – – –  John Mayer and the electronica phase of C89.5, Kaskade, ATB, Paul Van Dyke

Age 15-18 – – – – – – Indie and local Seattle bands – Danger Radio, The Scene Aesthetic, Daphne Loves Derby, This Providence, Gatsby’s American Dream, Forgive Durden

Age 19 – DJ’s and remixes as well as everything above.

Today, I wouldn’t really know what to call the music I listen to. I would say  I listen to a mixture of all of my previous phases, but that doesn’t mean I’m not expanding my library still because I am, so with that I’m going to introduce you to two different artists/dj’s who are both similar and different!

First is Pretty Lights.

Derek Vincent Smith, a producer from Colorado, combines electronic music and simple beats often times accompanied with a drummer to create “soulful music.” He juxtaposes collages of beautiful vintage samples against backdrops of futuristic synthesis and dirty broken beats, creating a sound that can snap your neck while simultaneously shedding your tears.

Second is The Twelves!

Yay! Thank you Hudson for introducing me 🙂

This dynamic duo pair from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil are receiving quite a bit of attention for their remixes! Word on the street is that they have amazing sets and currently their songs are playing all over the clubs in Brazil. I hope they come to the US soon cause I would love to see them!

To listen to them visit their MySpace!

Listen to Metric’s “Help, I’m Alive” remix first!

Quick Tidbits

Rihanna finally celebrated her 21st birthday last night in West Hollywood w/o Chris Brown

Apparently the two have attempted to record a song together and have sat in the studio getting out all of their emotions, I don’t know how I feel about a song so quickly after such an incident.

Chris Brown has removed himself from the Nickelodeon Kids Choice Awards ballots for favorite male singer and favorite song

Mandy Moore and Ryan Adams secretly married yesterday in Savannah, Georgia.

The Jonas Brothers are coming here June 28th to the Tacompton Dome!!

Production on the new spinoff for Gossip Girl has already begun!
