Football and My Fall Season

If you’ve been following my Instagram closely for the last few months, you may have noticed quite a bit of football content. It isn’t necessarily new, but it’s frequent enough that it has been brought up to me.

“When did you become such a fan? I didn’t know you were into football.”

“I’m not. I’m into the Seahawks.”

Growing up, my family has always been a fan of the team. Younger me couldn’t have been bothered, but what else could you expect from a kid who wanted to just read and play dress-up? High school football games were just a social outing for me. I loved getting indulged in the games. Yes, at times, I might have got injured and perhaps thought about visiting an athlete recovery center near me, but those wounds and injuries never really bothered me much. Instead, I became more fond of football. I ended up at a university that wasn’t even D1 for the longest time and even then, we still didn’t have a football team. I had this question myself recently – “when and how did I actually start liking football?”

It was when I moved to the Bay Area. I rejected Bay Area sports and didn’t want to become a fan of the 49’ers just because I lived here. It was the thing that I did with both Mandi and Eric and their love of football trickled down to me, but mostly, it was the thing that bonded me back to my hometown. Despite moving away, it was the thing that made me feel connected to my family and something that we could relate on. Originally, 2013 when I decided on this, the transition was rough. Coworkers ridiculed me on being a band wagon fan and that I didn’t know the rules and sure they weren’t wrong. There are a lot of rules! Luckily, I’ve picked up a lot over the last few years. While i’m not on the level of those in the office who love their Online sports betting and fantasy football and the like, I am still proud of what I do know.

But here’s the funny thing about sports. People love to tease and bully you for it if you don’t come out of the womb loving it. Sometimes it doesn’t happen that way and that’s okay! We can all learn to embrace it when it makes the most sense for us. Today, is our last home game of the regular season and while I’m excited to see where it might lead for us, I’m also ready to get back to my Sundays!

Marshawn Lynch in Houston, Scotland

The events that occurred this weekend were deeply upsetting. We have a couple more posts tonight that aren’t as happy and chipper as we usually portray on Yow Yow! so before those happen, I’m leaving you with this: Marshawn Lynch being his best self in Houston, Scotland and with Skittles.

Marshawn’s Pepsi Commercial

I had a massive giggle fit after watching this. For my 2 year work anniversary, my manager promised and purchased me a Marshawn fathead to go up on our wall. This was a very hard thing for her to do given that she’s a hardcore 49er’s fan. Meh. But she says she likes Marshawn so this was okay.

#GoHawks! Can’t wait for the game today!

It’s Almost Sunday!

I don’t know about all of you, but we’re getting incredibly excited for the Super Bowl on Sunday! To get all of you on the same level, here is Marshawn’s press conference with Skittles. I just feel so bad for how much he gets fined. Won’t everyone just leave him alone and let him be him?

Marshawn Lynch and His Skittles Deal

The days to the upcoming Super Bowl are winding down and the Seahawks players are becoming fast favorites! I don’t mind. I’m willing to share our team with other states that didn’t make it to the Super Bowl if people want to root for them. I’m not sure when everyone discovered that Marshawn Lynch’s favorite candy was Skittles, but it was announced TODAY that Lynch has struck a deal with them! As soon as I saw it, I had to have it. In fact, the desired feeling was so immediate that I ordered Tommy to try and find it on Google Shopping Express only to shortly discover that they were so limited edition that they won’t even be in stores!

Starting Wednesday, the limited edition pack of blue and green Seahawks skittles will be auctioned off here before the Super Bowl with proceeds going directly to Lynch’s charity – the Fam 1st Family Foundation.

16 Reasons Why We Should Root for the Seahawks @ the Super Bowl

I am completely jazzed about the Seattle Seahawks being in the Playoffs right now and on our way to the Super Bowl. It’s no secret. Buzzfeed published a humorous  little post yesterday on why we should root for my team to win at the Super Bowl and I am all over that. Here’s a GIF of Marshawn Lynch scoring and being awesome for your enjoyment and for the rest of the entertaining read, click here.

We’re Fans of the Seattle Seahawks

HOBviously. There’s kind of a big game on Sunday and it’s causing a divide between my co-workers and I because naturally I’m repping Seattle in a 49’ers area. I may have moved here, but I wasn’t ever going to convert over. What I love about the Seahawks is that our fans are insane, but they’re some of the best fans you’ll ever see. Our players are incredibly involved with the Seattle community and because of this, our city has so much love and pride for the team. That…and we’re kicking butt. For my favorite Seattle readers, here are a couple of videos to get you excited for this weekend’s game.

Marshawn Lynch – Beast Mode

I miss Seattle the most on Sundays. This special 12-minute feature on Marshawn Lynch aired on Monday I think, but since I didn’t get a chance to watch it I just now finally caught up with it.

Seahawks, I love you.
