Matt Bekker covering Demi Lovato’s Give Your Heart a Break

I already pretty much love Demi Lovato’s latest single “Give Your Heart A Break,” but I love it so much more now that my dear friend Matt Bekker is covering it. Matt has been in my life for nearly six years now as a great friend and a wonderful supporter of my endeavors. He is one of the most talented guys I know and I am so very proud of him. I cannot wait to see what he will come up with next.

Matt Bekker – Poetry in Motion

My friend Matt  just unveiled his new Facebook music page today with a new song that I have completely fallen in love with. I’ve known Matt for 5-6  years now and he is such an incredible writer and performer. I am so proud of this guy. He’s off in New York right now working very hard on his music so please visit his page and support it by “liking” it and listen to his new song “Poetry in Motion” while you’re there.

A Look Back on Seattle U Shows

This past school year, I have had the wonderful privilege of working with some incredible musicians and bands at Seattle University. Within just one school year, they are already making headlines, putting out new albums, headlining tours, and have found themselves on the lineups of music festivals.

I feel so lucky to have had the opportunity to work with these eight very talented musicians and bands:

If there are any musicians and bands that you should be following from Seattle, it is them.

– My dearest friend Liz has relocated to the state of Colorado, but has been keeping busy with a string of shows. Please go out and support her because she is a wonderful and talented little lady. [Source]

Kay Kay and His Weathered Underground will be releasing their album “Introducing” on July 26, 2011 from Suburban Home Records. The band will host CD release shows in both Portland and Seattle, June 11th and 12th respectively. [Source]

[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MBPTz4Z5XTI&feature=player_embedded]

– Almost immediately after my show with He Is We ended, the band hit the road to head East to begin their tour with The Rocket Summer. The band will be headlining their first tour beginning mid-June. Did I also mention that they will be performing at Bonnaroo 6/9 – 6/10? [Source]

– Two of my performers Robbie Christmas and Matt Bekker will actually be performing a show together tomorrow at the Crocodile Cafe! The show is 21+. My friend Matt Bekker also recently became a part of the Rocket Music Entertainment Group family, which is home to Elton John, James Blunt, Lily Allen, and Oh Land.

Champagne Champagne will be releasing a new album this summer and will be performing at the 2011 Capitol Hill Block Party, Bumbershoot Music Festival, and Doe Bay Fest!

– I am so excited to be working with Campfire OK for my last show of the year. This year, the band was voted by City Arts Magazine as one of the best new bands of 2011 and this summer, you will be able to catch the rustic-sounding band at both Capitol Hill Block Party, Bumbershoot and Doe Bay Fest! I would say that this band is going to be in a completely different place in the next year, but I know that things for them are moving fast and that the change will most likely occur within the next few months. Their CD “Strange Like We Are”  is definitely one of my favorites from the year. Expect to see them on the bill for various music festivals next year because that’s probably where they will be.

This was filmed three years ago at a local teen center at a show I attended.  These two talented musicians are my friends Matt Bekker and Lizzie Huffman singing a song they wrote together. It’s an old favorite.

Feel free to visit their music pages below to listen to more songs from them.

Out on the Town: 10/16

Who: Owl City – The Scene Aesthetic – Brooke Waggoner

When: 6:30 PM

Where: Neumos

How Much: Doesn’t matter cause it’s already sold out!

Funny story: I’ve been wanting to go to this show for a very long time. In September, I get ready to buy my ticket and bam! it’s sold out. That’s been happening to me a lot lately circa: Girl Talk. I was really disappointed because I always make an effort go to see Eric and Andrew at their home shows plus I had just started getting into Owl City. Today, Eric offers me a guest list spot… I’ve never been offered a guest list spot 🙁 Sadly, I had to decline. It was a tough choice, but I just couldn’t abandon my family. Eric and Andrew – I’ll still see you tomorrow no worries.

If you’re going to the show, I am jealous of you. Have a great time!

Also on the same date! If you’re not doing anything, come see my dear friend Matt perform at his CD release show. He’s fantastic. YouTube him… I’ve recorded live videos for him like five times.

Seattle bands you should know (or listen to)

I think Seattle music posts are my favorite to write. I was inspired to write this post when I heard a little snippet preview from Minus the Bear the other day. When I was fifteen years old, I threw myself in the local Seattle music scene and since then  I’ve watched favorite bands dissemble, migrate to other bands, or become incredibly successful.

The music scene is no longer what it used to be. The bands I grew up listening to are no longer really a part of that scene and neither am I, but that doesn’t mean that I ever stopped listening. This post embodies a part of my adolescence that most people never knew or could understand about me. Just so you know, this has taken me DAYS to write and perfect.

Here are a few of my local favorites:

This Providence

I recently caught their new music video for single, “Letdown” on MTV a couple weeks ago. Currently, they are on the bill for Warped Tour, but will be starting their own tour with Cartel beginning October 22nd in Raleigh, North Carolina. The guys will be playing in Seattle on November 10th at El Corazon.

Best Songs:

  • Well Versed in the Ways of the World
  • Certain Words in Uncertain Times
  • My Beautiful Rescue
  • Chasing the Wind
  • Letdown

Myspace

Danger Radio

I was first introduced to Danger Radio four years ago at the first show I attended. I wasn’t even there to see them nor did I stay for their set. It wasn’t until after the night that I realized what a mistake that was. I make an effort to never miss one of their shows at home now, these guys are my favorite and as much as I like their new songs now, I love the old ones even more. The guys were recently in California writing their next album and were taking a break from touring this summer, but will be back on the road again come fall. They were also featured during the Real World Brooklyn season this past year.

Best Songs:

  • Slow
  • Sparkle Baby Shine
  • Groovin’
  • Kiss N’ Tell
  • Slow Dance With A Stranger

Myspace

The Scene Aesthetic

I wouldn’t know about Seattle music if it weren’t for these two fools. They were my first show and first favorites. After creating the hit song, “Beauty in the Breakdown,” the dynamic duo continued to take over MySpace music putting out a series of cd’s and popular singles and even a DVD. After a two year hiatus – the guys have come back together with full force. The two recently spent nearly a month in California recording their new album and just began their new tour. They will be performing in Seattle at Neumos on October 16th.

Best Songs:

  • Beauty in the Breakdown
  • Alvin Maker’s Greensong
  • Don’t Be That Note I Can’t Hold
  • Come What May
  • It’s A Promise, Like A Song

Myspace

Letters & Lights

Letters & Lights is a new band in Seattle, but if I’m assuming correctly Erik and Ethan have been around Seattle for quite some time. Erik (left) and I used to go to all the same shows! He was actually very well known (and liked) in the Seattle music scene so I was excited when I heard he had been making music himself. Their EP was just released on iTunes and they recently played a Santa Monica show with The Scene Aesthetic.

Best Songs

  • Smile Bright
  • In Love and Outdone
  • Pretty Letdown

Myspace

Dyno Jamz

They are your perfect mix of hip-hop and jazz. I’ve never heard anything like it and I LOVE it. And I promise I’m not biased just because my friend Nick is in the band hahah These guys dominated the EMP Sound Off! competition earlier this year, which has earned them a well-deservesd slot at Seattle’s largest and most anticipated music festival, Bumbershoot.

Best Songs:

  • Universal Love
  • Footprints
  • Come Out and Play

Kay Kay and His Weathered Underground

I’ve been talking a lot about this band lately! They recently finished their sophomore album and it is fantastic. Other than that, I don’t really have anything else to say except that I adore this band, enjoyed working with them for the short evening that I did and am never disappointed by their shows. These guys are true characters, but very talented musicians.

Best Songs:

  • Hey Momma’
  • Birds on a Day Like Today
  • Bowie the Desert Pea
  • Santa Cruz Lined Pockets

Lizzie Huffman

Lizzie has been performing since she was fourteen years old at local teen centers. She has worked with both Danger Radio and Thomas Dutton of Forgive Durden and Matt Bekker. Watching Lizzie perform is always a treat for me. Her voice is so refreshing and her shows are always personal. She is currently performing in and around the greater Northwest area including at my school, Seattle University, on September 19th! You should all come out and see her!

Best Songs:

  • Heavy Hearts
  • Country Song
  • Country Song Number 2
  • Oh My Sweet Carolina (Cover)

2

When Matt first started out, it was just him and his guitar. He has since collaborated with a number of other people around Seattle including singer Lizzie Huffman, and now has a full band to back him up. I’ve watched Matt grow into a very talented and dedicated musician. Now signed with Sound Records and Entertainment, Matt Bekker and Bryan Watson are continuing to record their next full length album and touring the states.

Best Songs:

  • All Tied Up
  • Empty
  • Deep
  • Let’s Get Away
  • Donovin

Minus The Bear

Minus the Bear IS Seattle music. (Excluding Death Cab) Their single, “Pachuca Sunrise,” is what defines every one of my summers. Whenever I was planning a show, they were always at the top of my list. They still ARE at the top of my list and I’m so determined to have them someday. Not only are they amazing musicians they have given me some great memories. Currently, the band is getting ready for the release of their new album! Here’s a snippet, too excited!

Seattle Music Update

Seeing Lizzie perform last night was amazing. She has such an incredible voice, it’s just always nice to hear and see her as well! It had been what feels like almost a year since I last saw her. We actually left the venue and took the show outside to the park for a more intimately summer setting.

Her show was at the Ground Zero Teen Center, the same place I attended my very first show when I was fifteen. The place has changed SO much. It just looked like a great place with all the young teenagers running around there. It brought back some great memories especially seeing the framed pictures on the wall of  fliers of sold out shows back in the day.

For some reason, being at a show, seeing old friends… it always feels the most comfortable, like my home away from home.

So! I’m going to get to news.

Lizzie will be releasing her album soon. More details will be released later on when I find out.

Tom Pfaeffle’s memorial concert will be on August 13th at the Moore Theater. The time and performances have not been released, but I do know that Kay Kay and His Weathered Underground will be performing I believe.

– My dear friend Matt Bekker will be performing tomorrow at the Edgewater Hotel. I went to see him last week and posted, so if you are interested in what you have seen go check him out.

Check out the event here

Andrew and Eric from the band The Scene Aesthetic are recording in California right now and every so often they will have uStream shows, in which they answer questions from fans or give you a glimpse of their recording sessions. You can find more information about those from their Twitter so become a follower!

Matt Bekker at Lucia

Last night, I went to go watch my friends Matt and Bryan perform at Lucia in Kirkland.

I haven’t seen these guys in forever, they’ve been away on tour and such and they just told me the great news that they had been signed to the label Sound Records and Entertainment. I made a post about their band Bekker before  w/ some videos of their performances, but last night I brought both my cameras out to snap some pictures as well as record videos. Unfortunately, I didn’t realize that the recordings on this other camera would suck so hard. These two are amazing and I’m so happy for them and can’t wait to see what great things will come their way in the near future.
