Bay Area Eats:

When it comes to brunch in the South Bay, there are very few options. Typically you’ll find diner style type restaurants instead of the really fancy type brunches that you might find up in the city. Nothing against those, but I like to find a happy medium. Sometime last year I discovered Cafe Borrone in Menlo Park and never let it go. Occassionally, Diana and I will find ourselves here during the weekend and sometimes spending upwards of about $60+ on brunch between the two of us. We go hard. Borrone is a popular spot and you can always expect a line here, but it’s also such a casual spot to be dining as well since they have a large area for outdoor seating and you can order your food right up at the counter. Here is just a sampling of the spread that Diana and I have once ordered. However, if you want to do my order, here’s what you need:

  • 1 chai tea latte
  • 1 freshly squeezed orange juice
  • The scramble – with salsa, avocado, and sour cream
  • 1 side order of chicken apple sausage
  • 1 side order of cinnamon raisin bread (toasted with butter)
  • (to split) a half order of the fresh berries french toast

Lately: In April

IMG_1996

I used to love my “The Weekend: 5 Things” post (or was it “5 Things: The Weekend?”) I always got this mixed up! Lately, things have been picking up for me with work, trying to create more original content for Yow Yow! and really just enjoying my life here in the Bay Area that we haven’t been able to do these posts as often. So I’ve decided at the end of the month, we’ll just do a roundup! Some of the pictures will be from my Instagram and a few others will be photos that didn’t make the Instagram cut, but that I still wanted to include.

At the beginning of the month, Mandi and I had a girlfriends date together where we brunched and took a stroll around Hayes Valley. We ended up at the most perfect sweets shop and had to get a photo of their jars with their wallpaper.

Bay Area Eats:

I was feeling the brunch cravings hard this morning so I posted this latergram Instagram photo when I woke up around 8:30. I actually ate this meal a couple weeks prior. How deceiving, right? Well little did I know that only a few hours later, we would actually be having this exact same meal again! Do any of you ever have that feeling when you have one amazing meal and then you feel like you want it again just a few days or even a week later?

I really love Cafe Borrone for their simple breakfast. They make some incredible basic scrambles that you can add things to. I had the #4 which includes their salsa, sour cream, and avocado with a side of chicken apple sausage. I’m also a huge fan of their french toast (half portion) which is perfect for sharing.

The Week: 5 Things

There was one more notable thing that happened during the week that I felt should be included in this post. Earlier this week, our interns and employees went on a short train ride over to Menlo Park for Off the Grid! I’ve only ever been to the one in Haight with my friend Sam a few years back so I was excited to try a different location. The first truck I made a beeline for was The Chairman, which I remembered from the last time I was at Off the Grid. The Pork Belly Bao is the most delicious bite (or more than a few bites for me!) After this, I went on to have a warm Empanada. The best thing about Off the Grid is that there is always so much variety and so many different things to try. I’m looking forward to my next trip there or even … the Fort Mason off the grid with 30+ vendors!

This movie.

By Friday, things start to get a little wacky.

Oyster shucking in the office! We shipped 100 oysters over from Boston – some of the best oysters I’ve ever had.

Three juices purchased for three meal substitutions this week! The third one was my dinner tonight. We survived. By we I mean me and my stomach. We’ll make a separate post for this later once I’ve finished.

Facebook Town

Facebook has acquired 630,000 sq ft of rental property to build up new housing units (394 to be exact) for their employees. Amenities will include a sports bar, a doggy day care and a bike path along the San Francisco Bay that leads to only a 5-minute commute. While I understand the intentions of companies wanting to create these housing arrangements for employees to be “closer to work,” I think it does more harm than good. A little separation is always necessary. There should be a space between your work life and your personal life. I also am personally a little freaked out that “Facebook Town” (I’m sure that’s not what it will actually be called) is so massive. Real talk here – do you really want to be neighbors with everyone that you work with?
