Spotify Prepares To Take On Apple and Microsoft

As we heard recently, Mayor Bloomberg is coming in at full force to beef up the city and make it known as Silicon Alley. New York City has never been known for their tech environment, but that is about to change. Speaking at Spotify this morning, Mayor Bloomberg announced that the music application service plans to hire 130 engineers to join their team by 2014.

“Spotify’s decision to expand and grow here in New York City along with its plan to hire 130 engineers underscores the reasons why we’ve made such a strong push to increase the ability for students to study science, technology, engineering and mathematics,” said Bloomberg in a release.

Attempting to get into the music game, Microsoft is developing Xbox Music’s web client and Apple is doing the same with iTunes Radio. Will it be enough?

It will be interesting come fall to see who will come out on top.

Help Bumbershoot Complete Their Lineup

For the most part, this year’s 2012 Bumbershoot lineup has already been secured, but it seems like they are looking for a few more acts to fill some extra slots. Microsoft, Starbucks, and One Reel have joined forces for a new contest called, “Opportunity Rocks,” which will give one Northwest band the chance to play at this year’s music festival. They will perform at not only Bumbershoot’s Starbucks Stage, but also at this year’s 4th of July festivities at the Lake Union Wooden Boat Festival on the Microsoft Stage.

I was thrilled when I learned that Whitney Ballen, a girl that I used to book for at a venue five years ago was a semi finalist. Please vote for her band Whitney Ballen and the Intimates. They are absolutely wonderful and she is quite a doll herself. I wish her nothing, but the best of luck for this opportunity. You have two more days to vote (including today) and it is super easy! Microsoft Celebrates New Store Opening in Bellevue w/ Miley Cyrus Concert

If you’re trying to figure out what Microsoft and Miley Cyrus have in common, you may not be able to wrap your head around it. I’m still trying to figure out why these two things are even in the same headline together. On November 18, Microsoft will open their new store within Bellevue Square, but they don’t seem too concerned with making themselves the center of attention. At 10 AM when the store opens, the first 1,000 people to visit the store will receive a pair of passes to an exclusive in-store concert with teenage sensation Miley Cyrus.

What. How BIG is this store?

I’m not going to lie, I freaked out a little bit. I’m not a huge fan of Miley, but I am a fan of Hannah Montana. Did anyone happen to catch the newest episode Sunday night? Not embarrassed to say that I cried at the end of it. Just sayin’.
