The Males That Blog

I cannot even begin to tell you how refreshing it is to discover a blog written by a male or better yet – a group of males! These days, blogs are overrun by women writing about fashion, style, home decor, etc. – don’t get me wrong – those are some of my favorite types of blogs, but reading a blog written from a guy’s perspective is sometimes so much better. It’s nice to see guys that care about the same things I care about, but in a masculine context. Refinery 29 wrote a post today about some of their favorite guy bloggers in the Chicago area, but I decided to extend this post to include some of my personal favorites from all over. Enjoy everyone! And don’t worry – even though it is male-focused, there is something for the ladies too. This is also kind of a follow-up post to the one I did back in January 2010.

[Cool Material]

Believe it or not, out of the 27 blogs I read on a daily basis, Cool Material is the only male-focused blog in that lineup. Highlighting new products in fashion, technology and design, Cool Material brings forth the items that every guy will want on their wishlist. These writers are the coolest of the bunch and are nothing, but effortless in their style.

[Mr. Kim Says]

Mr. Kim Says is kind of a hodge-podge blog in that I don’t exactly know what the focus is, but I like it regardless. It is very similar to a Tumblr (if it’s not already a Tumblr,) but it makes me laugh at the end of the day so I guess that’s all that matters.

[Metrodad]

If you’ve been following Yow Yow! for some time now, then you know that I’ve been a huge fan of MetroDad for over a year now. The identity behind Metrodad is still unknown, but that’s not the most important factor. Whoever he is, I find him to be intelligent, humorous, and a lovable father to his “Peanut.” It’s like the guy speaks my language, but that’s just because he’s relatable and I’m sure I’m not the only one that feels that way. He’s got a gazillion fans and his posts seem to always strike a chord with me. I once found myself wimpering away during a reading of one. Shameless.

[Lottie and Doof]

There is nothing more attractive than a man that cooks. I mean, how many times do I have to say it?

[Los Angelist]

Sophisticated and sleek, Los Angelist is catered for male readers that are confident, savvy, and in the know. The site is so simple and there is not much on the blog that is geared towards me, but yet I still find myself hooked on the blog regularly.

[Josh Spear]

So I have to admit that I’ve got a little bit of an obsession with this blog. Having read it for a couple years now, Josh Spear still remains to be one of the most up-to-date and relevant blogs in my roll focusing on culture, technology, music, gadget, designs, travel and more.

[Man Up Chicago]

Man Up Chicago is a blog I just discovered via Refinery 29 and even though I know nothing about Chicago, lucky for me, this blog is not just city-focused. I actually found myself pretty interested in some of the posts especially all of their recent Lollapalooza coverage! By the way, did anyone catch the live stream today? I was able to watch Delta Spirit, Foster the People, White Lies, and Two Door Cinema Club all while I was at work. Awesome. Technology!

New Directions

Or…expansion?

I’ve been thinking for a long time about my blog and where I want to go with it. Obviously, I receive more comments and feedback from women, but if I want my blog to appeal to everyone, I need to be fair.

Men’s fashion is nice. I just got over Fashion Week and I don’t want to do this for a very long time, so I’ve got a little prezzy for all you boys that are interested in fashion but turned off by the stereotypical definition of fashion. There’s nothing wrong with wanting to dress up 🙂

Let’s not beat around the bush: Here are 6 websites/blogs dedicated to men’s style and culture. Enjoy!
