Made-For-Instagram Exhibits

In the last year, I’ve read so many articles and watched many many videos about the “Made-For-Instagram” type exhibits. For the most part, I’ve shared all of my thoughts here – The Color Factory and The Museum of Ice Cream SF. I understand everyone’s love/hate relationship for it, but I also think it represents an interesting point in time that we currently live in. It’s this idea of delighting people and making others feel like their a kid again. There’s a heavy component focused on getting those perfect shots and dressing up for outings like this and while that’s the worst part for me, I can admit that I am contributing to that as one of those attendees.

I think this video is well made though and paints these exhibitions in a good light. Look at how much fun they’re having! Not too many people have covered this, but for me personally, as much as I enjoy going to these events, I have such a hard time just going through it. I do stress about getting the shot that I need or looking back at my photos at the end of the day and wishing I could have taken a shot differently. For that part of the experience, I don’t think I’m doing it right and I know I’m putting additional pressure on myself. How annoying is that? This weekend, Refinery29 is in town for their 29Rooms exhibit and we’re going to go through this entire thing again. Here’s hoping that I can get out of my head and into just enjoying myself and the event.

Museum of Ice Cream SF

Ever since we heard about the Museum of Ice Cream, we had been hoping it would land in San Francisco. This fall, I finally had my experience! As expected, it was dripping in millennial pink. The staff was incredibly welcoming and if you think you’re too tired to attend after a day of work, get ready to be woken up from your first step in.

Now, we all know that I’ll never turn down a photo opp and especially in a place that is so Instagrammable, but I have to let you all in on a secret. I’ve loved the Color Factory and the Museum of Ice Cream, but every time I go to one of these things, I can’t help, but feel an immense amount of pressure. It’s the pressure to get the right angle, the perfect shot that is clear, focused and with impeccable lighting. On these days, I spend more time in front of the mirror trying to find that perfect outfit and I don’t want to be. These events were created so that you can live out your childhood dream again and just be a kid – to walk through the space as if wasn’t really 2018 and you’re not permanently glued to your phone.

It’s hard isn’t it?! I still have some shots here to share with all of you, but happy to say that I didn’t get a shot of everything and that I’ll always be able to look back on this as just a fun evening after work with my friends. I’ll never forget the photo where we’re posing girl band style.

Museum of Ice Cream’s 4th City

After New York, Los Angeles, and San Francisco, what city could possibly be next? Well, I secretly hoped Seattle because nothing ever comes to Seattle, but it is actually going to be Miami! Did anyone see that coming? While I’ve never been, I have no doubts at all that the creators won’t turn their new location into something amazing. I’m thinking lots of bright and tropical colors for their themed rooms and a whole lot of flair. Even though they announced it this week, the museum will actually open in just a few weeks in time for the holiday season. It will officially open on December 13th with tickets becoming available November 17th at 11:00 AM EST. A limited number of tickets will be on sale November 14th though so if I were you, I’d set your calendars for that and make the 17th your back up date.

By the way, we totally went to the Museum of Ice Cream in San Francisco too, but just haven’t gotten around to posting it yet!
