Nick Jonas and Demi Lovato are performing in Seattle tonight so Cupcake Royale went ahead and sent these cupcakes over to Key Arena. How GOOD are these?! I’m dying at the one that says “Throw some bacon on it” – we still don’t know what that lyric means in that song, but we love these anyways.
You guys, I have so few weekends left to myself until I’m traveling on the road for work so this weekend is one that I’m looking forward to having ALL TO MYSELF! Last night, we raged pretty hard for Manan’s birthday so for now I’m just using this as an excuse for me to be not capable of doing anything else Saturday/Sunday except for catching up on work and spending Q. time with Yow Yow! The other day, I had this craving to listen to all of my favorite early John Mayer albums. I’d forgotten just how good they were. #blessed that Kevin introduced me to JM so long ago when I was just 9 years old and listening to Inside Wants Out for the first time. It was so good that we’re going to do the same thing this weekend that we did earlier in the week and listen to it over and over again. I wish we could go back to getting music like this from him. Today, we’re sharing Room For Squares because it’s one of the few albums in which I love every single track. There are very few albums in the world that do that for me.
We definitely have shared the original song on Yow Yow! before, but this remix is just so good. I found it on Spotify’s Discover Weekly Playlist this morning and with how things have been going with our relationship, I really didn’t have high hopes. This, however, did not disappoint and I’ve already listened to it 3 times today. I’m also very close to saying that I prefer this over the original…maybe we just said it…!
I hope you guys will like this! Tonight’s weekend soundtrack is a very sweet throwback to my days in college and a nice memory that I like to think of as the “calm before my storm.” We’re having a moment now where we are feeling similar feelings as we reach the end of the summer and I prepare for a busy travel season and being on the road. It’s funny, when I was younger and thought that I was going to be working in music, when I referred to me being on the road in the future, I thought I would be on a tour. Instead when I say that same line now, I’m referring to a different kind of tour that I never really imagined for myself.
It’s interesting that I always planned my entire life out like it was a map and that each step was a destination point. The reality actually is that we’re taking so many bathroom stops along the way.
Happy listening y’all!
We’re having a Justin Bieber moment right now. Remember when this album first came out and we were all amazed at how good his songs were? Well, they’re still that good I guess.
I recently got into watching Stranger Things – still sitting pretty at Episode 4, but I’m obsessed with the kids on this show. Here are a couple of them trying to sing the theme song to the series. I wish I could adopt Dustin (left) he’s easily the best character on the show.
Good lord, remember when we thought Selena Gomez lip synching was bad? Heidi is like not even trying – at least be out of breath.
Some days, I get really tired of the music that I’m currently listening to. The good thing about making a playlist for every season is that you always have it and you can go back to it. Today, we’re revisiting our Fall ’11 – Winter ’12 playlist (back when we were still in college!) and I came across this gem right here that we’re reviving. I can’t believe I haven’t actually shared this before – missed opportunity for sure.
You guys, I finally did that thing that I’ve been putting off since January. A couple of weeks ago, Jessie and I finally committed to going to Monday Night Workshop – a 2 hour hip hop class in San Jose from 9:30-11:30 PM. For years, since I moved here, I started researching which places I should go to and what class might be a good fit for me. I’ve been following Monday Night Workshop on Instagram for awhile and was pretty sure that I had found the one. Lucky for me, Jessie, my co-worker had also heard about it too and had been interested in trying it out. So back in March, we put it on the calendar. But for whatever reason, kept putting it off – things kept coming up, we had to work late that night, we were lazy, it was a Monday, the excuses were never ending.
Growing up, I always wanted to take hip hop classes. It wasn’t feasible for me as a kid and when I got to college, I started going to my university’s gym where classes were being taught, but similar to now – it was hard for me to remain committed. I just wanted to get really good, but how can you be good if you stop showing up? Monday Night Workshop is late and Mondays are our busiest days so I knew it was going to be a struggle! I had nerves the morning of class and because of this – savaged my body with an Egg McMuffin and hashbrowns that morning to calm myself. I wanted to take this class for a few reasons:
So this class is no joke. Everyone here is as good as a Jabbawockee and while everyone was a 9-10, I felt like I was a 4. I probably only got every 3rd or 4th step which made me insecure at first, but then I quickly recognized that it’s not like everyone comes out of the womb being a good dancer. It took work and I’ve been out of it for years so while I can pick up some things, I shouldn’t have expected that I could go to one class after a long time and be as good as everyone else. The choreography, the song, the instructor – all met my expectations. It was exactly what I had wanted, but 9:30 PM for a start time is rough after a long working day. Everyone was so talented though and I think that’s something I enjoyed watching. This kind of dance is beautiful and mesmerizing to me. Would I go back? Probably, but I’m still a little bit shy to be doing this in front of everyone else so I think if I can make the time for it, I’d like to set up just a couple of private lessons before heading back. I’m glad we finally took the plunge!
If you’re interested in seeing the piece we learned – here is a video of our instructor Deziree doing the choreography to it at the end of class. She’s amazing. The song is PARTYNEXTDOOR – Persian Rugs.
This is my favorite thing this morning so far. A supercut of the sounds Kanye West makes in his songs – I don’t even want to think about how long this took to make.
You guys, Outside Lands is tomorrow and I wasn’t even thinking about it. How far removed we have become in the last few years. Actually though I went to go see HONNE last weekend while I was in LA and it was like the first show that I’d been to in months since February or something. I’d forgotten how happy these used to make me, how expensive they were, and how much time I dedicated to shows every week and then every month.
This lineup looks great though! This is the first time I think I’m actually hearing about this festival, but Alina, The Internet, A$AP, Chance, Schoolboy – the gang’s all here!
It’s important to note that this music festival name was so hard for me to remember that when I searched it in Google right after to find an image of this lineup, I typed in “Camp Flag Gnog.” Nailed it.
This is the absolute best. I’m so sad about Obama leaving the office :( These two were just so great.
