SZA on Saturday Night Live

Guilty: Turning down plans from two separate people so that I could stay in and watch James Franco host SNL and SZA perform on it! Not seeing her in concert when she was here in San Francisco earlier this year was a missed opportunity. She is easily my favorite artist of the year though and if you haven’t jumped on the bandwagon yet, better start now. SZA performed “The Weekend” (my favorite) and “Love Galore” last night.

2017 Unwrapped

I absolutely love year-in-reviews! For me, it has always been such a great way to look back on all the things that you loved or were most important to you. It’s one of the reasons why we do a similar thing here at Yow Yow! too. I’m still planning on sharing my 100 favorite songs from 2017 in a future post, but for now, I decided to use the data provided to me by Spotify. My top 5 list for Top Artists is not a surprise to me at all, but the songs – yes! Guilty – Harry Styles.

Have you done your 2017 Wrapped yet? If so, were your results exactly what you thought they would be?

Demi Lovato – Tell Me You Love Me

When photographs of Demi Lovato in a wedding dress started popping up in the media, fans immediately jumped to conclusions. Who could our girl, Demi, possibly be getting married to right now? We don’t even know who she’s currently dating! Then reality sunk in and everyone began to realize that it has been some time since the release of “Sorry Not Sorry” and that her next single was slated to be “Tell Me You Love Me.” Of course, the wedding dress was merely just a prop for that music video, but we had more questions. Who would she be marrying? Would we even see the groom? Would it be someone we know? It’s Jesse Williams! Yes, for those of you who have been with Yow Yow! since at least 2011, you know that I know that he’s also “Hotness Monster” from Greek.

The video is good. It’s not great. The song is still even better and mixed in with the video we love it even more. “Tell Me You Love Me” is easily one of my favorite songs from the album. Why? Because it’s not actually about someone else though you may think it is. Demi confirms that it’s actually about yourself. Self-love. Love for yourself and this is shown in the video in the most powerful way.

Maroon 5 ft. SZA – What Lovers Do

I know I’m posting this song months later, but that’s just how long it took for me to warm up to it! It’s so catchy and as much as I don’t want to like current day Maroon 5, my love for SZA kind of surpasses that. I hope this song is playing at all my holiday parties this year.

Warped Tour Ends

Full disclosure: I never attended a Warped Tour. For whatever reason, I never made it, but there was a time where I certainly considered going – actually several summers worth of attending. As teenager, Warped Tour was the only music festival I wanted to attend. I put it above Bumbershoot and Sasquatch because it was “the one place where all my favorite bands and artists would be.” Though we never made it, I have positive thoughts about the festival and many of my friends were impacted by it because they were the ones performing on those stages.

It was the launch pad for a lot of bands and a wonderful tradition and gathering. I had a sinking feeling about why the tour might be ending and it’s what I expected – less ticket sales over the years, a small number of bands coming up with rising potential, and exhaustion coming from the founder, Kevin Lyman. But you know what? 23 years running ain’t bad. In fact it’s something to be very proud of. Some incredible bands have thrived all of this tour – bands that I know you listened to and loved. To see Kevin’s official note and get a glimpse of the tour’s history and the bands that were impacted by this festival, click here.

French Montana ft. Swae Lee – Unforgettable

This isn’t a new song, but I have so much more of an appreciation for it since I learned last night that this was the “first dance” song for DJ’s Harley Viera-Newton and Ross Schwartzman. Just… downright amazing.
