Will Ferrell’s SNL Monologue

It’s a little embarrassing how hard I laughed watching this yesterday evening. I liked it so much that I stopped Kevin and I in the middle of a football game so that I could turn this on for us.

Lilly Singh Becomes A Late Night Host

This week, we are celebrating the stunning Lilly Singh. Why? Because as Carson Daly retires from his late night show, Singh is taking over. She joins both Jimmy Fallon and Seth Meyer for the late night lineup. Singh is the first Indian woman to be offered this role and her new show will be called “A Little Late with Lilly Singh.” How much do we love this?!

“I’m so excited because I truly get to create a show from scratch, I get to make it inclusive, I get to create comedy segments and interview people and really create something that I believe in,” she continued. “I’m so honored and humbled.”

Singh may not be a household name yet, but she’s sure to make waves. With her career started on YouTube, Singh is a dynamic Indian Bi-Sexual woman who is going to leave her mark on the late night world. I grew up with Carson Daly from the TRL days and even watched his late night show well into college. He’s iconic for me in some way and while I haven’t stayed up THAT late in a very long time, I’m excited to see a new power woman step up into this position. Singh’s show will arrive this coming fall.

Seth Meyers Interviews Kellyanne Conway

https://youtu.be/U_dv5qAsJMU

I missed this when it aired earlier this week, but because of everything that I’ve heard – I made it a point to end up watching it at the end of the work week. I don’t quite understand Kellyanne Conway and I’m not going to try. I’ve seen enough of her during the campaign that I’ve just about made up my mind about her. However, Seth Meyers has really made an impression on me during this election – first with his message after the results and now this. We need someone to ask these hard questions and if you know me – then you know I love it when people just get called out for things like he’s doing here. It’s not bullying and he’s not doing it disrespectfully either, but he’s making a strong point here. Everyone should be doing this and as we move forward, we need to continue asking questions and challenging.

Golden Globe Awards 2017

Viola Davis in Michael Kors Collection

I spent a great deal of time today glued to my TV. Those hours of the red carpet and the actual award show aren’t hours that I can get back. My two takeaways? Well, I didn’t watch enough good movies in the last year and everyone that tried to pull off a long-sleeved dress this year on the red carpet failed. I did have a couple of favorite looks though and they came from those that surprised me! I always like doing this post the night of the award show so that people can have something to scroll through when morning comes around so with that here are my favorite looks as well as those that missed the mark.

I’m actually tired of this trend with dresses being one shouldered and have been for awhile, however, I love this color on Viola and she looks stunning. I also like that she decided to simplify both her and makeup so that the dress could just do its thing. The head-scratching moment of the night for this dress was when Ryan Seacrest asked her what color her dress was while everyone at home was like “um, can’t you tell what color this is?”

Sarah Jessica Parker wearing Vera Wang

Very rarely am I ever impressed by anything SJP wears. She looks like a marshmallow in this gown and I’m not happy with the way she styled her hair. The only way this look could redeem itself is if it were sleeveless and her hair were let down.

Guys, Would You Wear It?

Nobody knows more than me that I love a good choker trend. We’ve been obsessing over them since the summer and we’re not slowing down any time soon. However, ASOS decided to put the trend to a serious test this week by releasing a choker for guys. So male readers of Yow Yow! … I have to know, would you wear it? Is this an accessory that you can get behind? How would you style it?

You can check out the full collection here . And before you scratch your head and say, “Katie, but aren’t these women’s chokers? How can you distinguish them?” Well the link I just included shows that the search results have indeed been filtered down to just “men.” Yep. So this is a real thing that’s happening. Then after I read this news, I came across this:

This is The Today Show’s Matt Lauer also wearing a choker. Except, we’re a little put off that he’s displaying it Superman style. Why not wear an outfit that will already allow it to stand out on its own instead of being hidden? Turns out he was wearing this because of the recent news about ASOS so let’s not expect him to be a regular.

Whatever the case, I think I’m okay with this trend. If a guy would like to wear a choker, they should just go ahead. I’m still going to wear mine. Maybe we can match. Let’s just end this post on a good note though:

How SNL Transitions From the Monologue to the Opener

I’ve been watching Saturday Night Live since I was a kid and I think it’s a lot of peoples’ dream, like mine, to actually see a live taping of it someday in real life. Recently, Saturday Night Live aired a behind the scenes look at what it’s like for their team to transition from the Monologue to the Opener and it is fascinating to watch. The team doesn’t have much time to do it as they’ve only got as long as the intro lasts, but they begin moving as soon as they shout “Live from New York, it’s Saturday Night!” Then the countdown begins and I have to admit, as I’m watching the clip and watching them countdown, I’m a little nervous as to how they’re going to take down this huge wall in 25 seconds! Watching this program growing up meant a lot to me and my family. Even in college, if I was out, I would sometimes try to make it back in time to watch if there was an interesting host and especially if the musical act was good. However, there’s a lot that I never took into account that goes into making this production what it is and these transitions are a large portion of that.
