How SNL Transitions From the Monologue to the Opener

I’ve been watching Saturday Night Live since I was a kid and I think it’s a lot of peoples’ dream, like mine, to actually see a live taping of it someday in real life. Recently, Saturday Night Live aired a behind the scenes look at what it’s like for their team to transition from the Monologue to the Opener and it is fascinating to watch. The team doesn’t have much time to do it as they’ve only got as long as the intro lasts, but they begin moving as soon as they shout “Live from New York, it’s Saturday Night!” Then the countdown begins and I have to admit, as I’m watching the clip and watching them countdown, I’m a little nervous as to how they’re going to take down this huge wall in 25 seconds! Watching this program growing up meant a lot to me and my family. Even in college, if I was out, I would sometimes try to make it back in time to watch if there was an interesting host and especially if the musical act was good. However, there’s a lot that I never took into account that goes into making this production what it is and these transitions are a large portion of that.

Sunday’s Educational Lesson

Kind of. Here’s a very abstract poster reminder y’all to floss! What a great piece for…a bathroom? This post was brought to you by the talents of German painter Leonhard Hurzlmeier.

In Powerful Covers of the Day…

Wow, NY Magazine is making a huge statement with this cover and it is incredible. So far, 46 women have come forward about being assaulted by Bill Cosby. The cover features the 35 women that are okay being photographed and interviewed for the article. Bill Cosby’s show came out before I was born and had its final season when I was just two years old so I didn’t have any strong ties to him or the sitcom at all, but until this story came out, I do know that a lot of people really adored Bill Cosby. It’s actually quite sad that this has happened though, but very empowering for these women to stand up and have a voice about the matter. It’s such a takedown on Bill Cosby, but this is the right thing to do.

Poehler Polaroids

Earlier this week, NY Mag featured a slideshow of Amy Poehler’s characters from the Upright CitizenBrigade in Polaroids. This woman is such a chameleon. I don’t know how she does it! Check out at 30 more snapshots at the source.
