2020 Emmy Nominations

The benefit of staying indoors is that it gives us plenty of time to catch up on television before the Emmys. Nominations were revealed this morning and we’re excited for a few! While I’m thrilled that Paul Mescal has been nominated for “Normal People,” I wish there had been more recognitions for the series. Additionally, we’re excited about Watchmen, Succession and Zendaya for Euphoria. Jimmy Kimmel will host the completely virtual award show on September 20th. Unfortunately for us, that means no red carpet post for us this year!

Sh*t Bloggers Post

for $180 you too can smell like a blogger

A post shared by shit bloggers post (@shitbloggerspost) on

For moments where you can’t always get an OOTD, there are filler photos that occupy our feed. Sometimes they show up in the form of random object still shots, our meals, or the Victorian houses around us. Whatever the case is, if you follow a number of influencers, you start to see these trends show up. I would be lying to you if I said I wasn’t a part of this practice and if I didn’t save some of these “basic” photos to an Instagram collection to feel inspired later on. [“Sh*T Bloggers Post“] is a new account developed in quarantine that highlights all of these trends posted by different users. Looking at the grid and reading their captions, it’s honestly hard to not have a laugh at it all.

“Hair Love” Gets Its Spinoff

“Hair Love” was this year’s Oscar Best Short Film and now we get to see more of its story unfold. HBO Max has agreed to turn the short into its own series spanning 12 episodes. For the television series, “Hair Love” will actually become “Young Love” and will focus on the family we saw in the original.

Twelve episodes of the Hair Love television series, titled Young Love, will be coming to the HBO Max streaming platform, the Hollywood Reporter confirmed. The film’s original creator and writer, Matthew Cherry, will return for the television spinoff, working alongside show-runner Carl Jones and writer Dayna Lynne North.

“I am beyond excited to continue telling the story of Stephen, Angela and Zuri and further explore the dynamics of a young Black millennial family we established in our short film Hair Love as an animated series,” said Cherry in a press release. According to IndieWire, the show will further center on the dynamics of the animated family, exploring themes of social issues, multi-generational families, parenthood, marriage, and careers.

The win itself had an incredible moment as it was the first time a Black woman had won an Oscar in the animation category. It was also only the second time for a man to win the animation Oscar. We’re so excited to continue on with this story, but even more so because this is a huge step for diversity in film.

Normal People Isn’t Over Yet

When “Normal People” was released on Hulu, fans of the series binged it all in a matter of days. Personally, I found myself in stages of grief. Should I have finished it as quickly as I did? Why didn’t I savor it more? Wanting to know more about Marianne and Connell, I couldn’t accept that this was the end.

Announced this week, two very special episodes will be available for Ireland and Northern Ireland viewers that show us the rest of the story 40 years into the future. Titled “Normal Older People,” we really hope that there’s a happy ending in it and that all viewers will have it available on Hulu.

UPDATE:

Okay, we found two clips, but this isn’t exactly what we expected.

Netflix’s “Over the Moon”

I will never get over having those warm and fuzzies from watching a show or a film with an Asian lead. Animated or not, adult me is excited regardless for a younger generation that can grow up seeing leads that look like themselves. Pixar is the reigning champ in producing pieces that tug at our heart strings, but who is to say that Netflix can’t do the same? In their new film out this fall, “Over the Moon” tells the story of a young girl who loses her mother and recalls her mother’s favorite Chinese mythology tale. Yes, we’re ripping this bandaid off already.

The tale tells the story of a moon goddess and years later, Fei Fei (the main character) is out to prove that she exists. Fei Fei, herself, is in STEM and builds a rocket that will launch her all the way to the moon. I grew up being a little bit of a space nut myself, so this film is right up my alley. We can’t wait to see this debut!

Lancome Will Re-Release Juicy Tubes

As a pre-teen, I was heavily influenced by what I saw in the magazines. Back then there weren’t blogs and there weren’t influencers, only celebrities. I was just allowed to start wearing light makeup, but can you really consider a lipgloss in this form real makeup? That was the argument I made at the time. I remembered reading about Juicy Tubes and a celebrity I followed at the time calling them her “obsession” in J-14. Next thing I knew, they were on my Christmas wish list and I received a pack of five mini tubes underneath the tree.

It was exactly what you expected out of a gloss. It was cute, portable, and sticky. A younger me didn’t know that well into my twenties, I would exclusively only use vaseline. But the brand and the piece itself remained desired. For it’s 20th anniversary, these juicy tubes will be available online for $20. There are 20 shades to choose from in three finishes – sparkle, creamy and jelly.

Dating Around Returns For Second Season

I remember seeing a few months ago that a new season was in the works, but having only seen that one source, I didn’t believe it until now. Netflix’s underrated dating show “Dating Around” is officially back on track. Last year, we fell in love with the series after the new year in an unexpected way. First off, it was nothing like the Bachelor franchise, even though we love the show. There weren’t any gimmicks, competitions or doubting whether someone was there for the right reasons.

Instead, “Dating Around” is about something we’re all too familiar with: the first date. I wrote an entire review about it [here]. It’s unclear when the second season will appear in our queues, but it is confirmed that it has already been filmed and wrapped set in the city of New Orleans. The series will continue on its same format and with six episodes just like before.

Nordstrom Launches “See You Tomorrow” – Resale and Secondhand Concept

For years, people always remembered Nordstrom for having one of the best customer service policies. Why? Because you could basically return anything to Nordstrom at any time and often times without a receipt. And the company would still honor it. It’s unclear if that is still happening, but whatever, the case the customer service is still top notch above all other stores I shop at.

In a new concept, Nordstrom is introducing “See You Tomorrow” re-selling pieces that were gently used, returned, or damaged. Don’t expect your typical vintage thrift store types though. Partnering with resale company, Yerdle, each piece has been professionally cleaned, refurbished, and repaired before returning to the racks.

“There’s a grading system that we have and it goes from pristine, to excellent, to great, and we don’t go below great,” explains Vice President of Creative Projects, Olivia Kim. “At that level it just means that maybe there’s a small scratch but it’s still not noticeable. It’s still in what we would consider [to be] pretty awesome condition.”

The concept store is only being rolled out to New York City’s flagship starting today. For those of you who aren’t located in NYC, but still want access, there will also be an online shop as well. At a later launch, Nordstrom customers will also be able to gift back to the brand their pre-loved pieces in exchange for a Nordstrom gift card.

Everlane Launches Athleisure

These days, it’s quite uncommon for a brand to launch without an athleisure category. Even if isn’t there initially, they always seem to slide it in shortly after. When I read the news that Everlane was just launching this collection, I was surprise to find it didn’t already exist! Everlane is a brand that people love (especially here in San Francisco!) so it’s no surprise that their version of leggings already has a waitlist. I didn’t know that was even a thing. Like many other leggings we know and love, this comes in a high waisted form and is made of recycled fabric.

Since Everlane is known for being a sustainable brand, they’re going to follow the same process for any collection they launch. Coming in a range of colors, these leggings are going for $58 a pop and will be available starting January 22nd. If you want to get ahead, you can also add your name to the waitlist [here.]
