Barry Jenkins’ Intended Oscar Speech

I might have expressed too much anger on Twitter Sunday night after the wrong film was called for “Best Picture” and the reason why is because this flub did not give “Moonlight” the attention it deserved. There have been many articles and critiques written about this already so I don’t want to echo anything you’ve already heard, but the cast of “Moonlight” didn’t have their opportunity to truly shine. Instead, the whole event was directed at Warren Beatty, Steve Harvey, “La La Land,” and now there is even a cover in which “La La Land” and “Moonlight” have to share the spotlight together. That was really unnecessary.

Since Sunday night was such a fiasco, Barry didn’t get to deliver the speech that he intended. That has been released today though and I thought I would include that for all of you to read:

“Given what happened in those last 10 minutes of the ceremony, I don’t know how I managed any words at all,” Jenkins concluded. “It is what it is.”

2017 Oscars After Parties

Elizabeth Banks in Elie Saab (this is so unbelievably stunning)

Nobody loves a red carpet more than I do. (Well maybe Ryan and Giuliana) but I don’t mess around on award show days and Sunday afternoons with the red carpet have a special reservation in my day planner. However, while everyone is anticipating THE red carpet, I’m also getting ready for my second wave – the red carpet of the after parties. This is where some of the most daring looks of the night come out. We’ve been doing this post after the award shows red carpet for years so if you’ve been with us awhile, this is nothing new to you. However, if you are new – welcome.

Moonlight Cast x Calvin Klein

I knew big things were in the works for the Moonlight cast after nearly every single of them was outfitted in Calvin Klein last night, but didn’t know what exactly was coming our way. Turns out, they’re giving us an underwear campaign. Happy Monday y’all! I had a chance to watch Moonlight this week before the Oscars and I’m thrilled that they took home the big win for Best Picture and for Best Supporting Actor. I can’t remember the last time I saw a film quite like Moonlight and loved the cinematography and scoring beyond what I could describe in words. If you haven’t seen it yet, you should. It’s so beautiful and important. Also important, the cast killing it in this campaign. Sort of NSFW, but whatever – view at your own discretion!

The campaign features the stars of the film, Alex Hibbert, Ashton Sanders, Mahershala Ali, and Trevante Rhodes.

“Since the beginning, Calvin Klein’s underwear imagery has always made big statements about masculinity; the performances of these actors in ‘Moonlight’ affected us deeply and made big statements about masculinity in a different way. Somehow we wanted to bring the two together,” said Calvin Klein creative director Pieter Mulier.

Oscars 2017 Red Carpet

Viola Davis in Armani Prive

WOW what an award show. We’re likely going to have a chat about all of the things that went on this evening, but for now – let’s just get to all of the red carpet details. There was a lot of fringe, a lot of neutral color tones and “Hollywood glam.” I’ll admit, when I watched the red carpet special, there weren’t many looks that blew me away right off the bat, but as the night went on, looks started to grow on me and we were able to figure out our top 5!
