Holiday Gift Guide 2018

 Chanel N°5 The Bath Soap – $26

Readers, what kind of Christmas shopper are you? Every year, I tell myself that I know how much easier it is to shop online, but can’t bring myself to do it. I have managed to order a few online exclusives and a few items that be personalized since I just found out you can upload photo on socks, but for the majority of my shopping, I still go to the mall. I hate the crowds at the mall, but yet I love it at the same time. There’s a certain kind of holiday cheer that you can get from the mall that you just can’t get from putting items into your cart from your couch. So this year, I did a mix of both and like every year, I know I’ll find myself at the mall one or two more times for that extra last minute Christmas shopping.

Here are just a few items that I’ve caught on the interwebs that I think would make great gifts along with a couple of things that I might want for myself too!

Wild Things

Before the models hit the runway in all of their makeup, casting director Douglas Perrett would like you to know that they are still some of the most gorgeous beings that walk among us. His collection of Polaroids feature some of today’s most successful models in their au natural state and will be published in a book entitled, “Wild Things.” What most people may not know about the modeling industry is that models come into go-sees (auditions in the modeling world) completely fresh faced and have their pictures taken by a casting director. The reason why they are makeup free is so that they can be viewed as a “blank canvas.”

Composites

Even though it seems as if Polaroids have come and gone, they really haven’t. They are classic and timeless. Artist Patrick Winfield has tried to preserve the Polaroids by envisioning the bigger picture.  One of his photo series includes Polaroid composites that make up a person, place, or event. He has taken many little Polaroid shots and compiled them together creating these beautiful pieces of art.

Before I Die

Every time I come across projects like this, I think to myself, “Why didn’t I think of this?!”

Before I Die I Want To…” reminds me of a non-anonymous Post Secret.

How it works: The creators of the project rome around to all these cities like LA, Chicago and New York, then venture off to India and hospice programs to snap a Polaroid of any random person and ask them to answer in their own handwriting the question, “What do you want to do before you die?”

It’s an interesting project really considering it was inspired partly due to the fact that polaroids were dying out.

If you would like to participate don’t worry if you think you’ll never run into the creators of the project, Nicole Kenney and ks rives, you can have someone take a picture of you! Then you can write in the white space your answer to the question and send it in.

Polaroids are coming back. They Never died.

It was announced in a press conference in Hong Kong on October 13 that Polaroid will re-launch the legendary Polaroid One Step Camera and is therefore commissioning The Impossible Project to develop and produce a limited edition of Polaroid® branded Instant Films in the middle of 2010.
