Bay Area Eats: Twirl and Dip

screen-shot-2017-01-21-at-5-39-29-pm

Because normal ice cream on a cone is boring, you guys! While on a walk through Potrero Hill and finding that my friends and I were having some sweet cravings, we stumbled upon Twirl and Dip. For some reason, the fact that the melted chocolate could develop into a hard shell almost immediately was fascinating to me. However, don’t be fooled. Just because it’s in a shell does not mean you are able to eat the ice cream slowly. It will melt. And it will be a mess running all the way down your hand.

Long extended holiday weekends are perfect for brunch and there was no shortage of it this weekend. If I had to pick a very meal, it would be brunch. Hi. It include two meals in one – breakfast and lunch. Basically if you’re trying to be cost efficient by not eating three meals a day, you could eat two and it would be pretty much the same thing because you can eat your breakfast at lunch time. The logic is so clear to me somehow.

On Saturday, I went on a friend date with Francis where I had to choose our brunch spot and he had to pick our activity. Of course I chose Plow – my favorite brunch spot in Potretro Hill. This was actually the first place I went to with Kevin and Veng when I moved down here and on a whim and since then it’s been a favorite…this is my second time here. The wait is a little bit crazy, but I’m someone that doesn’t care about that that much. I’ll wait as long as I need to for good food even if that means close to an hour and a half. The first time I visited Plow, I ordered the Soft Scrambled Eggs, but this time I opted for “The Plow” because I really wanted some of their infamous Lemon Ricotta Pancakes. YUM. Francis got the Egg Sandwich which was a delicious gooey mess.

You can’t start an entire day of football watching without a hearty meal. I recently decided to start “Brunch Club” with two of my co-workers which involves me dragging them along to a different brunch place every other weekend. This weekend, we hit up Pastis French Bistro in Palo Alto – Tommy’s pick! It was such a gorgeous day so we opted to sit outside with a view of the farmer’s market. I ordered the Omelette de Campagne – Spinach, tomatoes, mushrooms, and shallots, served with hand-cut potatoes. Yep, it’s a french twist on what I usually order – a classic veggie omelette.

Bay Area Eats:

This past weekend, I visited my friend Henry up in Potrero Hill and after learning that there were several restaurants within walking distance, we proceeded to check out the menu at all of them. Luckily, they were all within a block of each other. We settled on a place called  Sunflower, which Henry described to be as being “trendy Vietnamese food,” but also one of his favorites. Unfortunately, I didn’t get any pictures so I had to snatch a couple off of the internet. Between the two of us, we shared two plates – Imperial Rolls and Garlic Noodles – more than enough for the both of us! I’ve had a fair amount of Vietnamese food, but these are two things that I typically never order at restaurants. Since I’ve been here though, I’ve really grown to love Garlic Noodles – a dish I’ve had at another restaurant too. I’m just a big fan of comfort food…or a plate of carbs. I enjoyed our dinner at Sunflower and am looking forward to making another return visit to try more things off of their menu!
