The Nordstrom Anniversary Sale: What We Actually Bought

Prior to the sale, quite a few people mentioned to me that they didn’t think the selection was great. In my opinion, that’s a good thing because then you get to focus on the few gems that are there and you don’t over shop. Ahead of the sale, I also posted some of my picks and at the time, I didn’t even know if or how I would participate. This past Thursday, I was lucky to have the day off and decided to shop in-person and online. There’s a reason for that, I promise! This was my first experience shopping in stores since the pandemic and admittedly, I was a bit nervous. I’m the kind of shopper that needs to see and feel the clothes and try them on in a dressing room. Pick-up just wasn’t going to be an option. To minimize some risk, I decided to go right when the store opened. Since it was a morning weekday, it wasn’t crowded at all and I was able to maintain distance. Here’s all that we purchased… and then some!

[Zella High Waist Studio Pocket 7/8 Leggings] – Originally: $65 // Sale Price: $42.90

Even though I made several different purchases within the store that day in different departments, I had forgotten to use my $20 note! To my surprise, no one even asked me for it. I ended up buying these leggings once I got home with the note and though I didn’t try them on, I figured there’s no way I wouldn’t like them or find a use for them.

Is It Punk

Turtleneck – Aritzia / Belt – Mom’s / Skirt – Rag & Bone / Heels – Something Navy x Nordstrom

One of my favorite parts about writing these posts is that I can always go back and remember the story of the piece. There’s an adorable shopping area near me in Lower Pacific Heights – home to Reformation, Rag & Bone, Alice and Olivia, Frame – many stores that I would consider to be a bit high end and out of my price range. Though I can’t explain it, I recently discovered through looking into my own finances that I tend to be someone that feels joy through purchases. I wouldn’t consider this to be the most responsible habit, but the first step is admitting it.

On a recent trip, I stepped into Rag & Bone to peruse, but found myself going back to this red plaid skirt. Would I wear this beyond winter time? Will plaid still be in next season or even next year? I couldn’t get over the slit. The fabric was so soft and even though plaid isn’t something I own a lot of, I figured I could make this work. There was a part of me that day that wanted to tap into an edgier side; one might say my more scene-y teenage years.

For this experiment, I paired it with my favorite snug black turtleneck from Aritzia, my mother’s old belt and the white heels. If I were to re-do this outfit again (which I will after quarantine) I might want to swap out the heels for something else. Ultimately, we’re extremely happy we went with the skirt. It ended up being on a sale rack and discounted even further when we went to make the purchase. I call that “meant to be.”

Happy Pride!

T-shirt – Quip / Denim – Rag & Bone / Sandals – Qupid via Moorea Seal

Typically, I stick to one outfit photo a day, but today is PRIDE and I didn’t want to have to post this photo five months later. I actually wore this outfit a couple of days ago and received this tee from my friend’s company, Quip. This year, they made shirts just in time for the event. Coincidentally, my company did the same also, but I got this Thursday so I wore it to work on Friday which is when I got my company’s shirt. It’s 2017 and there is no reason to not stand by the LGBQT company. As a tech employee, I’m really proud of not only my company, but those in the community that support pride. I know that tech in the San Francisco Bay Area doesn’t always have the best reputation especially in the last couple of weeks, but those events do not define ALL of us. And trust – there’s a lot of us. Despite some of these things, I feel lucky to be in an industry that is strengthening efforts in supporting diversity, inclusion, and all communities. There’s still a lot of work ahead of us.

2017 Met Gala Red Carpet

I wanted so badly to get home early Monday evening so that I could have this post ready in time for Tuesday morning as a recap, but of course, we stayed at work a little bit later that night. The good thing about writing this post now though is that I feel like I’m not under a time crunch and I can really take my time with it.

Bee Shaffer is not exactly “in” the fashion world, but her mother is Anna Wintour and every year she continues to stun. This was one of my favorite looks from the evening. Here she is wearing Alexander McQueen with her fiance Francesco Carrozzini. #powercouple

A Collection Part 45

Interestingly enough, we don’t have a lot of thoughts to share about this A Collection Part post. The last 3 months have been a blur, but a good one. I think we’ll have some thoughts that we can share tomorrow that we’re building up, but for now let’s just enjoy these.

I Like Your Style…Kiernan Shipka

It’s the eve of the season premiere of Mad Men’s last season so it only seemed fitting for us to feature the actress on the show who we find to be a style icon. That is none other than Kiernan Shipka. Full disclosure: I’m not a fan of the show. I’ve watched a few episodes with Kevin and friends always ask me if I want to watch an episode with them, but to be honest I’ve never really gotten into it. I can’t believe how long this television series has been airing though. Fans of the show have really watched Kiernan grow up into the lovely teenager she is today and her style has blossomed so we’re very excited to be showcasing it in this post. Just to throw it back we thought we’d intro this post with a photo of a young Kiernan. She’s only 15, but she’s got so much ahead of her!
