Wedding Mondays

It is both heartbreaking and inspiring to see couples that I know and don’t know persevering through this time. None of them could have imagined what 2020 would have in store for them. All of them envisioned saying those two words solidifying their partnership and making it official official. However, all of them know that it’s not just those two words that make a partnership. It’s all not a grand ceremony that make a partnership. I appreciate both the couples that have moved their dates out of the concern and safety for others or the couples that have pressed on making adjustments to what they originally dreamed of.

Briana and Kris were one of those couples who had a wedding impacted by COVID-19, but decided they couldn’t wait until next year. Instead they threw the most beautiful intimate ceremony with guests that all promised to get tested beforehand. Vogue did such a beautiful job of capturing the special moment in their day through this summary and the photos will stick with you long after you’re done reading.

Wedding Mondays

When we first started doing Wedding Mondays, the idea was always to feature a video. It’s funny to look back thinking that the video was the make or break for these posts. Lately, I’ve found myself gravitating towards these longer-form wedding features particularly by [The Cut]. It’s the combination of the photographers capturing just the right images we swoon over and spending more time reading about the couple’s stories. Don’t get me wrong. I’ve loved the wedding blogs that I’ve spent years pining over, but so much of it was about the aesthetic and the vendors. The Cut does a great job of truly highlighting these individuals.

I loved Sarah and Ryan’s story. Also, doesn’t Sarah just look like the coolest bride ever? From start to finish, I enjoyed reading every part about this wedding day from the ceremony at Brooklyn Bridge Park to the reception at the intimate space at a restaurant for their friends and family.

For the entire feature, you can read all about it [here].

Wedding Mondays

I was hoping that I would find coverage on this “micro” wedding that occurred this past week and lo and behold, Vogue had it featured. Like many other couples, Kerry Anne and Michael’s dream wedding was also impacted by COVID-19. The date for their “micro” wedding had been set, but while they were planning for their day, protests around the country were being ignited. While some couples may have opted to avoid the commotion, Kerry Anne and Michael found themselves right in the middle. These photographs are not only stunning, but they will go down in history for being a part of this iconic and massive movement.

Wedding Mondays

It hasn’t been easy seeing all of my friends having to postpone what will be the most important day in their lives. This was supposed to be a big wedding year for us and it’s all of a sudden not. Some of my friends have decided to postpone an entire year while others are still finding ways to honor their original date. I’ve been waiting to find the perfect socially distanced quarantine wedding to share with all of you for Wedding Mondays and I think we did!

Elaine Welteroth and Jonathan Singletary met as kids at church through their mothers. It wasn’t until adulthood that they would finally end up together. Their story depicts how they planned to marry in their hometown of where they met back home, but COVID-19 had other plans. Not wanting to let go of their original date – 5/10/20 the couple moved forward and married right on their stoop. Following the exchanging of their vows was the best wedding block party I’ve ever seen! The photos are a must to look at, but we’ve also got a video that captures it all. For the full story, check out their wedding feature on [Vogue]

A Collection Part 57

It’s safe to say that this is the first time I’ve ever created “A Collection” while in quarantine. Let’s hope that in this lifetime, we don’t ever have to live through another pandemic. I used to look forward to these posts for a number of reasons. They were so different than any of the usual posts that I normally did for Yow Yow! Instead of spending a lot of time around the words I was using, this was my visual diary. It was calming for me to dig through the archives of Tumblr accounts I manually followed (I don’t have a Tumblr account!) and make a decision on what photos to include. It wasn’t always a simple yes or no. There’s certainly an intent for each one that is selected and for how I’m feeling at the moment.

Being in Shelter-in-Place now already for a month and a half, I thought I would have gotten to this post much sooner. It seems like I’ve found my calm through a number of other outlets during this time.

Awkward Dating Pt. 2

Cody Ko’s channel is the surprise treat I didn’t know I needed in my life. Ever since I discovered his channel, there hasn’t been one video I’ve watched that hasn’t made me laugh. I don’t want to get into a cadence of reposting every one of his videos here to Yow Yow, but I think I might as they come up from time to time. In the last post, we shared his commentary on the weirdest online dating show called “The Button” by Cut. This video above is a follow up to that and another round of cringe.

Cut’s Awkward Dating

If I didn’t have Cody Ko’s channel, I’d be missing out on a whole section of internet culture. Most of the time, I don’t think I need it, but his channel is full of content that just makes me laugh. While everyone is raving about Netflix’s “Too Hot Too Handle,” I’m trying my hardest to stay away from it for as long as possible. Instead I came across this gem from Cut (not to be confused with The Cut) who has been hosting their own online dating show that is savage.

Wedding Mondays

We’re headed into what I already know is going to be a difficult week. San Francisco’s gloom has rolled in, but that dark cloud of COVID-19 is still hanging over us. As much as possible, I want to try and spread some joy on Yow Yow! so we’ll do our best to keep it up with the positivity here. I randomly caught this wedding video recently while I was in Thailand. Without knowing anything about the couple at all, I still felt touched by it and wanted to share here.

One thing that has hit hard with COVID-19 is that because of the measures we are taking to protect ourselves, we can’t celebrate. Two of my close friends have had to put their wedding on hold. Under the celebration umbrella, funerals and birthdays are also stalled. I know this isn’t easy for anyone and it’s going to be hard for a long time, but we have to do this together.
