Robinson Cano Gets Booed and Then Gets the Love

[youtube=http://youtu.be/0b9rOji_PWY]

The New York Yankee fans aren’t happy that Robinson Cano left them for the Seattle Mariners (even though we are!) but that hate turns into love when Robinson Cano is standing right in front of them. During this segment on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, Robinson Cano takes to the streets of his old stomping grounds in which Yankee fans think they are booing at a cardboard picture of his head until they are surprised to find Cano himself stepping out from behind. Immediately, those boos are turned into handshakes. This is cute. Go Mariners!

Yow Yow’s Top 10 Posts of 2013

This is a pretty healthy mix that I am happy with. This is probably one of my favorite posts to compile every year because I am always so interested in seeing what readers are drawn to the most. I’m not able to get a whole lot of stats from WordPress or the stats that I mainly need, but I’m so thrilled to know that two of our interview posts were a top read this year. Working with both Hollis and Molly was  such a treat!

  1. Meet: Hollis Wong-Wear (Yes, this too is one of my favorite posts!)
  2. 2013 Golden Globe Awards
  3. 5 Reasons Why I Love the Mariners Bearded Cap
  4. Is Ballard Becoming the Next Capitol Hill?

Mariners To Fly Pride Flag on Sunday

On the day of Seattle’s Pride Festival, our Seattle Mariners will fly the rainbow flag at their game on Sunday afternoon

The gay pride flag will fly above the center-field bleachers alongside the American flag, the POW/MIA flag and the flags of the American League teams that always are on display each day. No doubt they will have exquisite flagpole lighting to really set off the display.

It will replace for the one day the Washington State flag that normally flies adjacent to the U.S. and POW/MIA flags.

Rebecca Hale, the Mariners director of public information, said the club was approached with the idea several weeks ago by a group called Seattle Out & Proud, which organizes the Seattle Pride Parade that takes place Sunday on Capitol Hill.

“Our fan base is a reflection of our diverse community,” Hale said. “And we thought this was an appropriate gesture on a day that is very meaningful to the LBGT community, Sunday being Pride Day in Seattle.”

Seattle Out & Proud says the Mariners will be the first Major League team to fly the rainbow flag during a game, but Hale said she couldn’t confirm that fact. She did say it will be the first time the Mariners have flown the flag at Safeco Field.

Such a proud Seattleite.

5 Reasons Why I Love The Mariners Bearded Cap

photo cred | Mariners

1. First off, the beaded cap on kids will be the most endearing thing you’eve ever seen. Just imagine what it looks like to see a 4-year old girl instantly transform into a bearded man. That’s some circus stuff right there.

2. The knitted bearded cap is so warm! I’ve worn it for a total of 6 minutes now and have already had to take it off for fear of becoming too hot in it.

3. It’s so Seattle. Beards. Cap. Mariners. A creation like this is something that would only come from this city.

4. You can instantly hipster-fy your bearded cap by adding a pair of hipster glasses to it. I chose Warby Parker.

5. There is nothing better than going to a Mariners game and seeing a bunch of goofy looking people in a sea of bearded caps! Instant bonding moment.

Bonus Reason: You might be able to sip your beer through the mouth hole…but we haven’t tried this move yet.

Blog Roundup:

I have been finding so many interesting things on the internet recently that I pretty much want to blog everything! I’d do that, but then you’d get 20 posts in one day and who has time for that? Very rarely has anyone watched me actually blog and even then I think it’s such a weird process. Maybe we can include that on the video blogs someday, Veronica? Anyways, today we’re already at 10 posts and I must confess to you all, I’ve got some blog projects I need to hit tonight! [More on that later] So laziness is about to occur and you’re gonna get a roundup of some of the best things that I came across on the internet today in one post!

Let’s go!

5. Mariners’ game attendees this season are going to dine well. [Source]

6. I took the Bring It On quiz and scored 10/12. Not bad!

Hey readers, if you love free stuff as much as I do, then I’ve got a treat for ya! To celebrate the Mariners’ opening day this coming Monday, Cupcake Royale will serve you up a free scoop of ice cream if you are donning a Mariners’ hat or jersey. Sounds like a pretty sweet deal to me! Have you dessert first and then head on down to the game y’all.

7 Reasons To Love Spring

IMG_9368

Readers, no one is more excited than I am to see winter GONE. I have loved spring since the day that I was born, but there are 7 reasons that I am going to share with you today on why I am swooning over this season. Even though it’s all that I’ve ever known, spring in Seattle is gorgeous. I don’t know how I am ever going to part with it, but we don’t have to talk about that now – so let’s just get into the good stuff, shall we?

1. I (personally) get to dress better. While I love my layers, the worst part about winter is having to hide every outfit with a coat. Another reason? I’m too lazy to go to coat check. During spring, that just isn’t a problem. Bring a cover up, fold up a cardigan, and you are good to go. This season, I am thrilled to be bringing out my favorite dresses for the weekend and even in the office paired with a blazer. Some of my favorite dresses will be featured in just a couple of days for The Closet: March 2013 post.

2. The men are dressing better. Pastels, crisp shirts, lighter fabric – we like it all. Guys, need to know what to purchase for the spring? Check out Refinery 29’s guide here.

3. It’s the start of the wedding season y’all! Unfortunately, I have not been invited to any weddings yet this season, but I am assisting my co-worker in her side project of being a freelance wedding planner and I am ecstatic to be jumping into any sort of event planning once again.

4. The gorgeous views of the sun setting in Seattle from my home and Mt. Rainier! I can’t get enough of it.

5. My Mariners even though they’re not doing so hot right now, that’s okay.

6. Blogging on the go. What I loved about living in Seattle for the past 4 years is that I could take my computer with me everywhere and I have found that blogging in different settings whether it’s on campus, in a coffee shop, at a cafe, outside, etc completely gave me a new perspective. It affected the content that I was writing or the mood that I was in and naturally, I just loved moving out and about. You can do that in the spring, but in the winter, you won’t see me leaving the house to just blog.

7. Brunch – better yet, any meal outdoors. Enough said.
