Seattle Met Mixtape Vol. 1

At Yow Yow! you could say that we are pretty big fans of mix tapes – especially in the summer when we are in need of a good soundtrack for all of the bbqs and parties we might be throwing. Here is the first volume from SeattleMet and we’re pretty pleased with it especially since it includes a roster of artists that I’ve worked with before – Pickwick and The Physics! Download the mix tape here.

50 Most Influential People In Seattle Right Now

photo cred | Seattle PI

I feel so fortunate to have been raised in a city that thrives on culture and creativity. When I look back on all of the people that I have met within the Seattle area or the people that I would like to meet, I am amazed at the diversity in personalities and talents. As a young adult, it’s inspiring to have these kind of role models living in your neighborhood. Seattle Met Magazine recently compiled their list of the 50 Most Influential People In Seattle Right Now and among the list are restaurant and bar owner Linda Derschang (pictured above,) Macklemore and Ryan Lewis, Chris Hansen, Russell Wilson and many others.

In Case You Missed Last Night’s Episode of Top Chef Seattle…

I mean, how could you? You’ll never catch me missing an episode this season. I’ve even put MTV’s The Challenge on the back burner for the rest of the season and pushed my viewing until Thursday evenings for them. However, if you are in a situation where you are not in dire need of watching right away like myself, but still want the most solid recap you’ve ever seen… rely on Seattle Met Magazine’s blog because this is spot ON.

Read the full recap of the second episode here.

Fashion’s Night Out: Seattle Recap

Last week, thanks to The Downtown Seattle Association, Seattle Met Megazine, and Pacific Place, I was invited to the Fashion’s Night Out event “Downtown Rocks the Runway” fashion show. In the days leading up to the show, I wrote posts detailing the event and even launched a giveaway (my most successful one yet!) The entire experience was absolutely wonderful as it gave me a chance to network with other professionals in the industry and even other bloggers in the area.

This was the first fashion show I’d ever attended, but lets hope it is not the last. New York Fashion Week next year? Someday, I hope!

While I did not sample any of the food, I did hear that it was delicious and that the drinks were flowing throughout the evening. I did, however, come home with a snazzy gift back from the show that I still haven’t gone through entirely. Most importantly, I loved getting a first look at the trends for this upcoming fall season. The model above is wearing a fabulous dress, but she was also my favorite for the night! Who is this girl, really?!

Best walk award.

Fashion’s Night Out: Seattle

Earlier this week, I met with the Downtown Seattle Association and Seattle Met Magazine to discuss next week’s big Fashion’s Night Out event on Thursday, September 6th! Even though I’ve been reading about FNO since the event began back in 2009, this is the first time that I have ever gotten a first look at it or rather a behind-the-scenes look.

In previous years, Seattle and Bellevue retailers would host their own in-store events, but this year, the Downtown Seattle Association, Seattle Met Magazine, and Pacific Place are trying to create a more cohesive experience. In addition to in-store events, there will also be a spectacular runway show featuring all of this fall’s hottest trends held in the Pacific Place Atrium. The Downtown Seattle Rocks the Runway event will be from 5:30pm-9pm and feature a photo booth provided by Seattle Met Magazine and cocktails served in the lounges set for ticket holders to the show.

There will be 70 looks provided from downtown Seattle retailers including: Nordstrom, Macy’s, Mario’s, Barneys New York, Alhambra,  True Religion Brand Jeans, and many more with hair styled by 7 Salon and makeup by Gene Juarez Salons.

Tickets are going quick, but if you still want to snag yours, click here. The proceeds from ticket sales will go directly to O Wines Opportunity For Success Scholarship Program to help provide young women with college scholarships. It’s a great cause that I think we can all try and get behind through supporting fashion too!

Stay tuned to Yow Yow for more Fashion’s Night Out themed posts including fall trends, events happening that can’t be missed, and the new scavenger hunt!

Additionally: I am giving away a Pacific Place $50 gift card!

Whether you’ll be using it at Fashion’s Night Out or for another occasion, you don’t want to miss out! Pacific Place is home to some of my favorite retailers including J. Crew, Kate Spade, BCBG Max Azria, Club Monaco, and many more.

To enter, leave a comment here and tell me what item you’ll be splurging on for this fall! If you’ve got a picture of the item you’re talking about, send me a link!

Congratulations to Bethany!

MTV Held an Open Casting Call for Real World Today in Seattle

I can’t even begin to imagine what kind of characters must have come through Bunim/Murray’s open casting call at Seattle’s Gordon-Biersch Restaurant and Brewery in Pacific Place Mall earlier today. The first time I read about this news, a part of me hoped that the Real World season would return “back to Seattle,” but I’ve gotten my hopes up every year now and have come to terms that that is just not going to happen. When I was in junior high, I thought that being a part of the Real World was the opportunity of a lifetime. Before you judge, keep in mind that I was a 13-year-old pretty much oblivious to all that went on in that house. When I looked at Real World, I saw it as a launching pad especially since previous cast members have went on to become political figures, journalists and talk show hosts. That was then; I can’t exactly say the same for some of the cast members in recent seasons.

As I read the posting on Seattle Met Magazine’s blog, I wondered for a second what it would have been like if I had gone to that open casting call today. How would I introduce myself? On the verge of graduating – sometimes considered a hipster? I don’t think I could ever seriously go through with it having the intentions of actually being on the show, but I felt some urge to turn that interview back on them.

“Is being a boozing alcoholic a requirement in your search for cast members?”

“Do the cast members actually earn money from the job that you set them up with or would you say it is more like an unpaid internship?”

“Do the cast members just spend infinite amounts of money?”

“We know that the cast members of Chicago were informed about 9/11 prior to when they were actually “informed” by producers on camera. Why did you have Cara fake those awful tears? If this scene was staged, what else was staged?

I may never know the answers to these questions unless, that is, if I decide to go to the next open call. Applicants must appear to look like they are between the ages of 20-24 so I guess I’ll be in the clear for awhile. Even though there are some aspects of the show that confuse me, I can’t knock them for producing a great hour of entertainment for which I happen to watch every season.

Let’s relive some classic Seattle memories. Slaps and teddy bears. This would NEVER happen on today’s season of Real World.
