The Closet: July 2013

DV by Dolce Vita ‘Dania’ Sandal – $26.23

By the looks of this month’s closet collection, you would think that we were already gearing up for fall! That, however, just isn’t true. I’ve noticed recently that while out shopping, I’ve been indulging in pieces that tend to be on the more neutral side – whites, creams, grays, and blacks. I’ve always been a fan of the classic style, but one thing is for sure – I definitely don’t get dressed up as much as I did in college. Back then,  bold and bright pieces were my trademark, but these days – I’m not really dressing for anyone else other than myself and I’m not meeting new people every single day so getting dressed in the morning has become simplified. With that, here are my picks for July!

Keds x Madewell Collaboration

photo cred | Fashionista

To me, both Keds and Madewell resemble classic brands. It is no surprise to me that the two would work together, but I am impressed by what they have come up with. These new pair of Keds in collaboration w/ Madewell will be released for their new Spring 2012 collection. The printed sneakers will be available for purchase online at both retailers’ websites and at Madewell stores for $50. Not bad!

I am in love with the navy and white polka dotted sneakers.

Dr. Martens Gears Up For Spring

The weather outside my window sure doesn’t give me any indication that spring is near, but in a couple of months, my favorite season will soon arrive! Along with that will come Dr. Martens‘ new collection of boots with chalky hues in a palette fit for spring.

I’ll take a pair of the blue ones please!

A Collection Part 26

As I was laying in my deathbed the other day recovering from Bumbershoot, five feet away from me Veronica shouted “KATIE! COLLECTION POST! When are you going to change your header?” I’m not sure if many of you realized this by now, but Veronica is one of the few people I listen to when it comes to Yow Yow. Oh and I also listened to Evan when he told me the other day that my Foster the People rant was “SO HIPSTER,” which made me so self-conscious that I decided to delete it altogether.

The road to recovering from Bumbershoot has been steady, but has obviously set me back a little bit. On top of that, I’ve also gotten some new hardware! YEAH! So I’m busy making transfers and starting fresh all over again. It’s safe to say that at this point, Yow Yow! will no longer be doing 17 posts a day as summer comes to an end. That’s right – it’s finally hitting me, but what an incredible last summer this has been for me. I am grateful to have had this opportunity to spend time with my family and friends and to actually have time to focus on myself more than ever. That’s not meant to sound selfish at all. Anyone that knows me will tell you that I am usually MIA throughout the school year (unless they work with me/have classes w/ me) because I am constantly on the go. For once, I got to experience what it was like to have absolutely nothing on my plate. I even got bored a few times – most likely during the time I spent writing those 17 posts.

Anyways, since I won’t be doing much posting over the next couple of days, I thought I would do a Collection post for all of you to enjoy!

Sneaker Shrine Shoe Rack

WHOA Alliteration! Believe it or not, I actually went through a small sneaker phase while I was in high school. What? You’ve never met a scene kid that liked her kicks? Influenced by my brother, I was a huge fan of my Nike’s in every style and color. I didn’t get very far in my phase because I only own a pair of moss green(now brown)/pink tweed sb dunks and a pair of gray gingham slim-fitted high-tops. Even though, I haven’t bought a new pair of sneakers in years now, that doesn’t stop me from visiting the boutiques up in Gas Town, Vancouver. You just never know when you might find another perfect fit.

Browsing the male-focused blog Cool Material today, I discovered this awesome sneaker rack that looks more like it belongs in the middle of a living space than a closet. Before you think about purchasing your IKEA bookshelf, consider buying this one instead. Whether you’re ready to hang up your sneakers for good or not or just need a place to store them , I think this shoe rack display would be perfect for just about anything.
