Wedding Mondays

It’s been a little bit quiet on the “Wedding Mondays” front and there’s a perfectly good reason for that. In a way, we’ve sort of outgrown wedding videos! Don’t worry; I was as shocked as you when I discovered this revelation in myself too. Here’s how I got to this point though. When you’ve been watching wedding videos on a consistent basis for this many years, you’ve seen them all. When I first started this series, I would watch a handful and love every single one. Back then in 2009-2010, having a wedding videographer wasn’t as popular because it was another expense. As more and more vendors come onto the scene, I find myself identifying with very few.

More often times than not, I will start a video and within seconds, I know I don’t want to finish it. It’s not because I know it won’t be good, but because I know how it will end. Those aren’t the videos that I want to see anymore and of course, I want to stress that this is in no way meant to be disrespectful to a) couples or b) the videographers who have made a living out of this. But at the end of the day, I do decide what I want to post.

For Yow Yow! though we’ve just outgrown this tradition that we’ve known grown to love. I know this doesn’t come as a surprise because the time in between from every last “Wedding Mondays” post would start to stretch even longer. From time to time, there will be a video that I’ll come across and want to post, but it just feels like the right time to sunset this series. Don’t worry; I still love them. I still want every friend of mine to have a wedding video no matter what.

I chose this one today because it was, in my eyes, different! I love seeing shots of Europe and destination weddings mostly because I have never been to Europe myself. The detail shots completely make this and the bride’s headpiece was a scene stealer for sure. To view the entire post on Style Me Pretty click [here]

Wedding Mondays

It’s hard to not love a wedding video that doesn’t start out with this kind of energy! Benedetta and Jeff exude this very free-spirited love that is infectious. Also, how can you not love a video that features their son?! I’ve been holding onto this wedding video for some time now, but knew that it would be a favorite when I saw it. I’m very excited to be able to share this with you all this evening and hope that it kicks off your week right.

Wedding Mondays

Since I just returned from Ashley’s bridal shower, I guess you could say that we’re on a little bit of a wedding high. The next couple of months are packed with wedding activities for her so naturally, that has me thinking about weddings often. I finally got a chance to catch up on wedding videos this weekend while I was at home and came across a couple that I ended up loving.

The one that I’m sharing this week is about Gloria and Tommy’s special day. They met on a dating app called Hinge and their love story is so sweet. Y’all know I’m a sucker for an emotional bride and even more for an emotional groom!

There are so many details to love in this wedding feature including their donuts, watercolored drink menu, and how they both incorporated their heritage and culture into the ceremony. For the full feature on their Malibu wedding, click here to visit Style Me Pretty.

Wedding Mondays

[vimeo http://vimeo.com/213938953]

I had a few moments at work today where I kind of glanced off and started thinking about my own thoughts and what I happened to be thinking about was wedding videos. I hadn’t picked a video for today yet when I was at work. When I went to my bed last night and closed my laptop I had three videos up at the top of my tabs. Would one of them be it? Sometimes none of them are for that week. I started to ask myself why I loved wedding videos as much as I did. How could I possibly become very emotional about something that has absolutely nothing to do with me at all most of the time? It wasn’t just because of my background in event planning. It’s not cause I love romantic comedies. One of those reasons is because I love the work that goes into making an incredible wedding video. I currently work for a company that is heavily involved with media and I grew up in a family surrounded by the arts. It has been there for me since before I could remember and it’s still a part of my life now. A wedding video is a couple’s story, sure, but it can can convey so much more than that.

I hope you all will enjoy this wedding video. There are so many beautiful elements to this New York City warehouse wedding and their story will tug at your heart strings. For the full feature, click here.

Wedding Mondays

[vimeo http://vimeo.com/239061102]

Too often, some of my favorite wedding videos are ones that really get a viewer going. I like the grand entrance, a good drone shot, and the most upbeat music – these will typically be what I call a “crowd favorite.” 90% of the videos that I showcase for Wedding Mondays fall into these categories. Other times, I like to slow things down a bit. Every Sunday, I visit my two favorite wedding blogs (like I do every week) and round up all of the “Real Wedding Posts.” I hope in all of them that at the end there is a wedding video. That is often not the case most of the time. For the ones that do have wedding videos, I mute the TV, focus on the video and begin watching each one. I typically will watch the video first before going back and looking at all the photos and reading the “How they met” story or the “Here’s what mattered the most to me on my wedding day” story. When I got to Portia and Ting, I didn’t know if I would love it. I had honestly just watched five videos before that I didn’t love and was about to call this week a wash and throw up my hands and say “No wedding Mondays this week, I guess.”

Instead, I was pleasantly surprised. The video starts out with heartfelt messages from guests (guests that I believe could be parents or relatives!) Then we get into how they met… the airport. Just strangers. Who happened to be going to the same destination and had spoken the same language. There wasn’t anything that could rival just how sweet this entire video was. I don’t want to give any more away so just watch for yourself!

Jennifer Behr’s Headpieces

You never forget the first wedding feature that you fell in love with. I was still in high school when I stumbled across Style Me Pretty for the first time, but it would be a few years later – in my senior year of college to be exact – that I would come across a feature that I would always remember and compare every wedding to. The bride wore a Johanna Johnson dress and a matching sparkling headpiece that I still envision in my dreams today. This was back in 2012, but even then, I was very confident that I might have a dress like Annie’s by Australian designer Johanna Johnson on my special day, but even more confident that I would have a similar headpiece. Even before seeing this wedding feature, wearing something on my head throughout my time of growing up has always been my thing. As a kid, I had headbands in every color. My mom got me into these. And in middle school? I would buy the thinner ones made of elastic or fabric from Wet Seal or Claire’s. And in college, I acquired so many tees from student events that I would cut a layer from the bottom of the shirts all the way around to wear a makeshift DIY headband across my forehead. So it’s settled. It is what it is and after seeing Jennifer Behr’s latest collection for fall, I can’t seem to stop thinking about how wonderful these would be.

Narrowing Your Wedding Invite List

As we start the new year, a few of my engaged girlfriends have already started confiding in me about the many annoyances of wedding planning. “Are charger plates absolutely necessary?” “Do guests need to go home with a wedding favor that they’ll forget about?” “How in the world do you continue to narrow down a wedding invite list?” Clearly, this is the tougher question to answer out of the three. There’s never an easy way to tell someone (or not tell them by not sending an invite) that has had an impact in your life that they won’t be able to celebrate your special day with you. There’s plenty of advice online that can help you with this process from this answer on Quora to Mandi’s Wedding Wednesdays post. I recently came across this fun little survey on Style Me Pretty that I thought might be useful too. Not everything can be solved with just a checklist; these are important people in your life that we’re talking about here! However, I like to think that any little bit of advice helps. Happy trimming!

Wedding Mondays

[vimeo http://vimeo.com/164826676]

It takes a special wedding video to make you start to tear up 7 seconds in and honestly, I didn’t think it was possible until now. Happy Wedding Mondays, everyone! What are all of you doing on your 3 day weekend? We feel pretty blessed today that we get an extra day to rest and relax before heading into what we hope will be a fantastic 4-day work week. Doesn’t that have a nice ring to it? So today, we’re dividing our time between work and Yow Yow!

I go back and forth a lot of the times between my ideal wedding video. Some videos are ALL fun – pure joy, completely upbeat and positive in every way. And then there are those that tug at the heart strings a little more. I think for the most part, this video balances a little bit of both. How gorgeous is Jean, the bride though? This reminds me a lot of Gelesia’s wedding dress and it just so happens that it was made by the same designer – Watters! We’re a fan, already!

Wedding Mondays

[vimeo http://vimeo.com/152350102]

It’s interesting sometimes to have Wedding Mondays on what is sometimes the hardest day of the week for me. Sometimes I come home, exhausted from work, and I can’t even think about opening up Yow Yow! for fear that I might end up writing something that comes across a little heated or a little frustrated. Today is kind of one of those days, but today is also a day when Wedding Mondays is reminding me to just get pass the Monday that sucks and that watching something so happy and romantic means that tomorrow is Tuesday and we can forget about that shitty Monday we just had.

I’ve been saving this one for awhile now though… and it’s kind of a favorite of mine. We also love it because Amber Stevens and her husband Andrew West are in the bridal party! But also, how could you not tear up at those vows? We did.
