Wedding Mondays

I know what you’re thinking. Another 13-minute long video. I hope you all know that when we share one of these on the blog that we’re completely serious about it. Because there’s no way I could make anyone sit through a 13-minute long wedding video if I didn’t enjoy it. I mean, I clearly had to sit through the same thing at least once to make sure it was worth having for a Wedding Monday.

There’s a lot to love and hate with a long wedding video. You find that there are sometimes equal parts that you love and hate at the same time, but the most positive thing of all is that you get to spend a little bit more time with the couple. You get to hear more of their story. You get to see the entire day and there’s something really magical about that. Very rarely do you see me posting those videos that are so short and sweet that are under two minutes and that’s because we can’t find a connection. In the blink of an eye, it’s over and then you’re like – “who was I just watching?”

Brenda and Trevor were just the opposite. And okay – so we have a soft spot for that Ed Sheeran song that’s used in all of these wedding videos! No, actually though – it was sweet to see a wedding that revolved so heavily around their family. The two also had the opportunity to incorporate their young daughter into the festivities as well, which added a nice touch. It’s funny how much I’ve developed a soft spot for wedding speeches over the last few months – remember when we used to hate them?

Wedding Mondays

[vimeo http://vimeo.com/136132769]

It’s been awhile since I’ve watched a wedding video that made me shed a tear, but THIS IS IT. I watched this video a few weeks ago and I remember thinking, I can’t wait to share this with Yow Yow! Every week, I kept looking at my queue wondering “is it time?” “are we ready” “can I share it yet?” but me being the OCD person that I am had to take the wedding video that was next in line.

Long Haul Films made an extraordinary wedding video for Jean and Nick. It includes all of the elements I love: exchanging of the personal vows, a tea ceremony for that cultural element that warms our hearts, and hello! did anyone notice that Jean had three dresses in this video? Jean is also the blogger behind Extra Petite. I remember last year when my co-workers were talking about her one day and I was like… Extra Petite, what’s that? And they were all… “YOU DON’T KNOW EXTRA PETITE?!” like I was crazy and because maybe don’t all bloggers know everyone in the blogger business? 😉

This week my SF BF Mandi asked me if I would help her select a wedding videographer. We looked at loads of different ones, like this wedding videographer cardiff before we actually came to a decision. She helped me out by narrowing my choices because we all know this process could take forever with me. I was flattered, of course, but it’s such a tough call to make honestly. Rarely are there videos that I come across where I’m in love with everything I see. This is one of those videos so I told Mandi, can you get this team? To our disappoint, they are no longer taking wedding video inquiries… which is awful because they have a magical talent here. So then I said to Mandi, “What amount of money do we need to give them to make them do your wedding video?”

If you love the wedding video as much as Mandi and I do, then you’re going to love their future on Style Me Pretty even more. Enjoy!

Wedding Mondays

When we have 15-minute long wedding videos, it has to mean that we REALLY like them. I loved Richard and Alyssa’s wedding in Scottsdale. A good wedding video is a beautiful one. It’s a wedding video in which you see details that you think look nice and could someday see in your own wedding. A good wedding video leaves you feeling satisfied at the end – like what you just watched wasn’t a waste of time and was well worth it. A great wedding video is something else though. Sure, everything that I just described is peachy and wonderful, but in addition to falling in love with the story, you fall in love with the couple. They’re the type of people that seem so genuine and nice that you want to be friends with them. I know that’s kind of silly, but the wedding videos that are my favorites are ones in which I adore the couple in them. Richard and Alyssa were that wedding video.

Wedding Mondays

Sundays are for lovers. I haven’t been saying this for very long, but used it to promote a Wedding Mondays post not too long ago. Actually, it was something that I kept seeing on Hannah Bronfman’s Instagram as a caption she would use to describe photos of her and her fiance Brandon Fallis on Sundays. I thought it was a pretty sweet line to use because when I think about my previous relationships, Sundays were always “our days.” It’s those days where you wrap up from the weekend and get started together again. It’s those days where you have a very late brunch and then spend all afternoon working and catching up on errands. Coincidentally – relationships aside – these are also the days in which I catch up on wedding videos for the following Monday.

It’s pretty late right now, but I felt I needed to finish watching the videos from this week and I came across this one. Normally, I have a queue of wedding videos to pick from for Wedding Mondays (well, at least right now I do) but this one is going to jump the queue. Even though it may not be what I choose for myself, I love destination weddings. I get excited about seeing something that isn’t on a golf course or in a hotel. I like seeing the views that you could never get anywhere else. This is coming from a girl who hasn’t been to a destination wedding yet so I’m saying this from my experience of watching lots and lots of wedding videos. There’s no dialogue in this video, which is okay with us because it looks so perfect that it doesn’t need any. When I first started watching it, I felt like I was watching a clip from a film. It actually took my breath away a little bit. And I’m so happy that this couple chose this song by James Vincent McMorrow. I’ve never heard it in a wedding video, but it fit in so well with the couple and all of the footage. It was almost as if this wedding video was re-reminding me just how good of a song it was. It’s refreshing to hear a song that is unconventionally used for a wedding video rather than one that gets constantly recycled. Enjoy enjoy! I hope this makes your Monday. I can’t stop gushing over it.

Wedding Mondays

We’re doing things a little bit differently today! Instead of our usual wedding video, we’re sharing with you a v. adorable save the date. Now, there’s plenty of different ways that you can do Save the Dates and when you’re considering yours you should try and think about what both you and partner want. Are you wanting to be pretty simple or do you want to spend a little time on it. Not everyone has the time to do videos for theirs, but they DO end up being my favorite. In a lot of different articles that I’ve read about wedding planning, it seems like it’s very easy for couples to get carried away with all of their DIYs and projects, but I’m always reading the same advice – pick the few things that you want to make your own. When you’ve decided on that, stick to it, and stop looking at Pinterest so that you don’t go crazy and add more work to your plate. Not everyone can be this couple in the Save the Date video above, but it’s nice to dream.

Wedding Mondays

[vimeo http://vimeo.com/131002661]

These past few weeks have been a complete blur for me – so much of a blur that we’ve skipped Wedding Mondays for almost three weeks! The more I watch wedding videos the more picky I have started to become. It’s almost amazing to me now that I can watch 7 seconds of a video and stop it without watching the rest. That’s not something that was the norm for me. Way back when, I would watch each video from start to finish because I just had a lot of hope that a) wedding videos could turn it around a minute in and b) that it’s not about the video, that it’s still about the love. What are these words I am spewing? I don’t even know. It has been a long day and I’m doing something that I normally would’ve done on a Sunday. Tonight, I really needed a win though. I needed to see a good wedding video and I’m not sure what I was looking for, but this was beautiful and that’s enough for me. It’s a good way to end today.

What to Wear: Summer Weddings 2015

Self-Portrait Azalea Dress – $380

Well wedding season is already underway, but it’s never too late because if you’re like any girl I know then you’re always panicking last minute about what to wear. Or if you’re like me, you’ve planned out what you’re going to wear to a wedding months in advance, but feel you need another option at the last minute so you start the hunt again one weekend before the event. Whatever the case, it’s always good to have a variety in your closet for those emergencies.

I received my save the date from my favorite LA bf yesterday for her wedding next year and… that is exactly what is triggering this post! 🙂 Should I start looking for a dress 9 months in advance for this wedding? Y/N? I have been sent a link to the Bombshell HQ website by a friend who says that she’s going to be looking at dresses that they have available, so maybe I should be too?

Also, this is a good time to remind you all of a few things. Weddings are about the couple’s day. Do not wear white. Do not wear cream. Do not wear off white. If your dress is printed or patterned with a white base, don’t even wear that. There are so many dress options in this world and there’s no reason for you to be wearing anything resembling white on this day. A wedding is also not a time for you to take any fashion risks. Don’t wear anything that could pose as a wardrobe malfunction in any way shape or form.

Instead opt for soft prints and patterns and pastels. Gravitate towards romantic fabrics like ruffles, lace, and scalloped edges. Ladies – you know how to do this! Don’t be the one that messes it up because trust – wedding guests notice and they will talk about you.

Wedding Mondays

[vimeo http://vimeo.com/124634087]

When you see a 13 minute long wedding video, you take a chance. Just before I stumbled upon this video and decided to press play, I had started to watch another wedding video that I ended up stopping after just 8 seconds. I coudn’t stand the music. A part of me thought, maybe I should give this one a chance though, maybe after this cheesy tropical music something special would follow. I think what my gut was telling me was that it was another video that would capture my attention. Since it’s been awhile since we’ve had a wedding video, I knew what I was looking for tonight. I wanted something romantic, something extraordinarily beautiful. I wanted to hear a speech and maybe see some tears. (Can you believe I used to hate wedding speeches?!) This wedding video of Ellie and Rob had everything that I was seeking. And yes, it even brought me to some tears as well! No surprise there. Wedding Mondays

With Father’s Day being just the day before, we really couldn’t help ourselves by selecting a wedding video that highlighted a touching relationship between a father and a daughter. Ashley and Mike’s wedding looked like a ton of fun for not only them, but all of their guests. Honestly, what’s not to love in this video?

  • Their gifts to each other
  • Speeches from their friends
  • Chinese lanterns
  • Their big reveal and first look
  • Lastly, those Geronimo balloons! MY FAVORITE!

Ugh, I loved all of the elements featured in this wedding video.

Five Favorite Pins: Cinco de Mayo

Would you believe that I have never had a true Cinco de Mayo celebration?! College doesn’t really count when it’s just a Cinco de Mayo themed party. I’m actually looking forward to celebrating this year if I get the chance though I don’t have any plans lined up yet. While most people are looking forward to the drinks, I’m always looking forward to the food. Here are just a few recipes that I think would contribute to the ultimate Cinco de Mayo party and that will keep your guests fed and happy.
