Favorite Event of the Year: Capitol Hill Block Party 2011

Two out of three days was just enough to make this festival not only the highlight of my summer, but the most memorable moment of the year. Who can turn down a weekend of great company, amazing live performances, free goodies, front row at Cults, stellar weather and meal breaks at all of my favorite restaurants just outside of the gates? You can’t.

Happy September!

Since my university is on a quarter system, I’ve still got a little less than a month left of summer and I couldn’t be more thrilled. This is, after all, my last REAL summer before I’m a working girl so I have to take advantage of it as much as possible. It’s been a pretty great vacation so far, but I know that I’m going to make it count in this last month. Most of my friends are returning within the next few days and that means there will be more trips around the city, night time adventures, house warming parties and bbq’s to be had.

Even though I still consider September to be a part of my summer, I know that it will soon come to an end. I like to look at this month as a transitional month before heading back to school so that means a little less blogging and  more preparation for the upcoming year. I am, however, excited for quite a few things going on this month…

  • Bumbershoot (this weekend!)
  • Fall TV lineup
  • Pumpkin spice lattes
  • the opening of Momiji
  • Fashion Week
  • and of course…Senior year!

Hey readers – what are you most excited about this month?!

Also, I hope all of you have a fantastic, but safe Labor Day Weekend!

Sweet Summertime

Nomz: Lemon Spaghetti

Lemon Spaghetti is the one recipe that I have been itching to make all summer! Today, I finally had the time and the drive to do it so I walked myself to grocery and picked up everything that I needed to make it happen. This pasta is light, healthy, and so fitting for this season.

One thing that I realized from making this recipe was that I really need a lemon squeezer. Manually squeezing it myself made me tip the whole cup over and have to start again. Since I barely made 1/2 cup of juice with the whole organic lemon, I decided to substitute the rest of it with “Simply Lemonade.” Boom. Improvisation.

Feel like trying out this delicious pasta yourself? Here’s the recipe!

Have You Been to an Outdoor Concert Lately?

It has been almost ten years since I have been to a concert that took place in a huge arena. Aside from the fact that I generally prefer music festivals to the one headliner – one opener combo, I just don’t have any interest in being in such a vast space with not so great viewing with the tickets I could only afford at the time. I will, however, shovel out my money for an outdoor festival. There is nothing better than having the best of both worlds by watching your favorite acts and being outside in a beautiful venue during the summer, wouldn’t you agree?

Flavorwire has highlighted some of the best outdoor venues in America and these photographs are absolutely amazing!

So who can guess the featured venue above?

Simple Things

Welcome back readers!

Hopefully all of you have had a very relaxing Fourth of July weekend! I spent it with great company and managed to even venture off to a new part of Seattle that I had never even been to for the fireworks! Believe it or not, I’ve actually never watched the fireworks going off in Seattle (TV and a city across the water do not count) from the city of Seattle.

In case any of you are wondering, I decided to snag a new layout today because I was tired of the same old narrow one – wanted to expand a little.

A Collection Part 24

Happy summer everyone! This collection post revolves around several themes this time around including youth and celebrating gay pride. Last week, we celebrated pride in Seattle and the rainbow flag is still hanging up in nearly every other business around here! Also – since it’s been three months since the last collection post, the pictures have accumulated so when I originally started working on this, I had close to 200 pictures in one post. Not wanting to freeze your computers from loading all of them, I’ve decided to split it. There are 100 pictures in this post and in another week I will post A Collection Part 25. Hopefully this is easier for all of you to see, but you’ll also be getting another one in a week as opposed to waiting three months again!

Have a happy Fourth of July everyone!

Mason Jar Meal

When I was in second grade, my classmates and I brought in jars from home and filled them with ingredients to make oatmeal raisin cookies just in time for winter break. To this date, it is one of the few projects that I still even remember from my elementary school days. Not only are they kind of fun to make, but they also make great gifts! I used to think that they were perfect for desserts, but this post from Black*Eiffel is blowing my mind. Apparently, they make fantastic meals too. Imagine bringing along one of these for a perfect summer picnic!
