Sundance Spotlight: West of Memphis

The first time I had heard about this documentary was through Kevin a couple months ago, but even at that time I had no idea what this story was really about. Produced by Peter Jackson (YEP THE Peter Jackson,) and Fran Walsh, the two decided to dig deeper into an investigation that put three innocent men behind bars for the murder of three young boys back in 1993. This documentary re-tells the story of how this came to be and how new evidence and  new witnesses are coming forward in an attempt to put the actual killer behind bars.

It is a truly a remarkable story. I can’t wait to read the reviews on it and watch the documentary myself.

Like Crazy

Yesterday, every single blog that I read on a daily basis blew up about the release of this film’s trailer. “Like Crazy” won multiple awards at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year and is scheduled to hit theaters October 28th. When I first watched the trailer, there wasn’t a lot that I could grasp about the plot other than this was yet another indie romance film. There was no denying that I was going to love it based on that fact alone. So I dug around a little more and read some reviews, etc. at one point stopping myself before I ruined the entire film with spoilers.

Blue Valentine gets an NC-17 rating

Ryan Gosling and Michelle Williams are starring in a new drama that has just been slapped with a NC-17 rating. The film has made its debut at several film festivals already including Sundance, Toronto, and Cannes and has even been receiving a bit of Oscar buzz.

Some are questioning if the film is truly deserving of the NC-17 rating. These days, not many movies get rated higher than “R,” but could the rating deter fans from watching? Word on the street is that the movie only got this rating because of a scene in question in which the male lead pressures his girlfriend.

I can’t remember any other NC-17 movies off the top of my head, but from what I’ve heard of this movie, I’m not sure if it all adds up. Chances are, I’ll still make my way to see it in theaters regardless.
