The Weeknd’s Super Bowl LV Halftime Show Performance

In case you missed it, The Weeknd’s Super Bowl Halftime performance was the most exciting part of last week’s Super Bowl. We didn’t care too much for the teams playing and we hoped it would at least be an exciting game, but it wasn’t. The Weeknd, however, delivered on a fun performance with all of his hits and what felt like a jab to the Grammys after their snub. We were secretly hoping that he’d play a song off of one of his older mixtapes, but that’s okay.

This Weekend:

What We’re Watching: True Beauty

After Start Up ended, True Beauty seemed like the drama that everyone was running towards. Instead, I went in the opposite direction selecting Run On, but I don’t regret my choices. Last weekend, I finally decided to see what all the hype was about and it was very deserving. True Beauty is one of the most fun dramas that I’ve seen in my collection with some emotional moments here and there. I haven’t seen any of these leads in anything else which made me excited about an up and coming ensemble. It’s highly unlikely that we’ll be able to finish the entire season by the end of the weekend, but anything is possible. I’m already on episode 11!

What We’re Listening To: Hayley Williams – FLOWERS for VASES – descansos

Hayley dropped her second solo album last night and at first I thought we’d be getting a handful of songs, but it’s more than a handful. Williams is serving us 14 tracks. If it’s anything like the first, we’re already bubbling with excitement. Even though Hayley and I aren’t far apart in age, I feel like she’s someone that looked up to as a role model growing up in the music industry. Essentially, we have watched her grow up from her style of music to the solo work she’s doing now.

What We’re Wearing: [WVVY Faux Sherpa Snap-Front Jacket]

Every year, buying a new jacket after Christmas is one of my favorite traditions. This year, it really didn’t make sense considering how much time we were spending indoors, but I saw a piece that I couldn’t resist. For even those freezing moments indoors, we decided to continue with our lounge wear to normal wear trend. This is one of the more girly pieces that I’ve purchased in a long time, but it was either this or the reverse – all of pink with cream accents. I had my followers vote and this one came out on top.

What We’re Eating: Super Bowl food

It’s going to be a quiet event this year in my house, but despite that, I haven’t changed the portions. I’ve got every single kind of dip and multiple things to dip with. Whether you enjoy football or not, the eating portion of it is one to look forward to. The debate is still out on what the main course is going to be, but I’m going to let someone else decide that.

Super Bowl Halftime Show to be 24 Minutes

Before I read this article, I didn’t even know that the Super Bowl Halftime show was only 12 minutes long. It always seemed much longer to be, but now reading 12 minutes, that seems like nothing. Pepsi said the decision to double the time was because we all missed out on a ton of live performances this year and they want this performance to feel like a concert. That seems nice. I also think The Weeknd sort of deserves something like this especially after getting shut out from The Grammys.

Regardless, we’re looking forward to it!

Shakira and J. Lo’s Entire Super Bowl Performance

In previous years, the halftime show was all that I cared about. We’ve since taken a bit more interest in the actual game (Go Chiefs!) and the entire football season as a whole that the halftime show sort of fell by the wayside. Nonetheless, I was still excited about Shakira and Jennifer Lopez coming together. They are two strong Latin American women that are powerhouses! Do I also even need to mention how disappointing Maroon 5’s performance was last year?

Here are my highlights:

  • We were completely reminded of how many hits Jennifer Lopez had as an R&B singer and while we accept her decision to stay in film, her days in music were unforgettable.
  • She may not have received an Oscar nom for her work in Hustlers, but there’s no denying how much of an honor it still is to perform the Half Time show at the Super Bowl and she killed it.
  • Jennifer Lopez brought out her daughter to perform alongside her and it was a very sweet moment
  • Did y’all know that Shakira can play BOTH drums and guitar? We knew, but we sort of forgot.
  • The Kobe Bryant tribute was nearly missed, but we think it was when the stadium and the lights at some point were purple and yellow to represent The Lakers.
  • There will never be a more unforgettable GIF than the one that was Shakira’s tongue.

Say what you will about the stripper pole, but we kind of loved it. I think it used to represent something that leaned more negative and it doesn’t need to be that way anymore. The work on the pole isn’t easy and it’s 2020. There are people taking pole taking classes as a workout and aren’t necessarily in that profession that it is known for. Not only was it a nod to “Hustlers,” but it was empowering in its own way.

The Eve of the Super Bowl

This video needed more Marshawn. Of course we’ll be watching the Super Bowl tomorrow, but it’s always less fun for us when the Seahawks aren’t in it. In case anyone is wondering though…um, we’re rooting for the Falcons!

Happy Super Bowl Sunday!

Happy Super Bowl Sunday everyone!

After coming back from Mexico, I have felt completely sleep-deprived all week so lucky for me, your girl got 10 hours last night and now we’re ready to rally for the most low-key Super Bowl party ever. Just kidding, we’re not going to a party. Since Super Bowl is sort of overlapping with Vietnamese/Chinese New Year, my friend Kelly is coming over to watch the game with me and nom on some takeout Chinese food that we’re going to grab beforehand.

It’s pretty exciting that the Super Bowl is here this year, but I’ll be honest with you, I’m not as into it as I thought I would be. I didn’t go to any of the events up in Super Bowl city at all and I wish I had because I hear the city has been transformed! This might have something to do with the fact that the Seahawks aren’t in it this year and that means for the first time since I moved here, I’m not rooting for a team actually in the Super Bowl. Weird, right? We’ll get it next year 😉

I hope all of you have a very relaxing and fun Super Bowl Sunday! Who is everyone rooting for? I’m rooting for the Broncos since we beat them two years ago and it’s supposedly Peyton’s last game so it’d be nice for him to get another ring before retiring. With that said, I think Cam Newton and the Panthers are going to destroy the Broncos. They are so aggressive and at times a little bit scary! For all those looking to raise the stakes on the game or any other sport, check out the guide on how to bet on sports by FanDuel.

Missy Elliott – Work It

We could’ve just posted the Spotify track, but after yesterday’s performance we realized this was the perfect opportunity to throw it back to the music video. Let’s be real – Missy Elliott was the REAL halftime act at yesterday’s Super Bowl! I still think it’s really funny to hear today that some babies who are so young think that Missy Elliott is a new artist. Makes me feel old.

Missy was my childhood and Alyson Stoner was my dancing spirit animal.
