2021 Grammys Red Carpet

Harry Styles in Gucci

I can’t tell if I’m being too harsh on award shows during a pandemic, but did anyone else find the Grammys to be particularly boring this year? Also, why didn’t I laugh at anything Trevor Noah said? The highlight of this show was less than a handful of performance and three outfit changes by Harry Styles.

Song of the Day

Olivia Rodrigo – drivers license

This song blew up only a week ago, but already I feel behind in posting this today! Y’all know how much of a fan I am of TikTok. It’s incredible to see how viral new songs can become on this platform and translate into popularity off of the app. Through repetition and hearing this song over and over again on videos, I came to know all about Olivia’s suspected drama with her ex and I can’t believe how invested I am in this now. Regardless, all drama aside, the song’s lyrics are even being compared to that of Taylor Swift who is known for these types of songs. Olivia has now set a high bar for herself and we’re looking forward to the next single after this one!

This Weekend:

What We’re Watching: Shawn Mendes Live in Concert (Netflix)

We’re starting our weekend a little early today because we’re feeling under the weather. As I wrap up my work day, instead of just having a Shawn Mendes playlist going on in the background, I’ve got his concert special instead! Some of you may know that I decided last minute to attend his tour stop in the Bay Area last year and it was incredible. It’s funny; I always go into concerts thinking that I’m going to have an okay time, but once it starts I am very much invested into my time there. Since his latest album came out, I’ve been feeling lukewarm about it. In fact, if you’ve read the Pitchfork review on it, I share similar sentiments. Watching this live show of his last album has reminded me of some better times.

What We’re Listening To: Taylor Swift – Evermore

What did we do to deserve two Taylor Swift albums in one year? Like everyone else this weekend, I’m also tuning into the sister album of Folklore and looking forward to it. I tend to consider myself a moderate Taylor Swift fan. I listen to the tracks, have some favorites, even attended two concerts of hers, but I’m not the fan that waits at midnight to watch the release go down. That’s reserved for BTS. She’s debuting a bit of a different sound with these last two, but at the same time, I’m intrigued. The pandemic is really sparking this interesting wave of creativity in people and it’s amazing what we can accomplish when we’ve slowed down.

What We’re Wearing: [Amazon Essentials Women’s Relaxed Fit French Terry Fleece Jogger Sweatpant] – $21.10

Don’t ask me when I’m going to stop buying lounge wear because I honestly do not know. You would have thought we’d gotten this all out of our systems after month three of the pandemic, but obviously not. In my defense, I don’t own navy joggers yet and this is a great price!

What We’re Eating: [Tortellini Soup]

Since the forecast is showing us a cold weekend, I really wanted to make the most of my time indoors. I haven’t actually ever made a soup before so this will be a new venture for me, but look at how beautiful this looks? It’s also so nice to have something as simple as this, but hearty enough with tortellinis mixed in.

This Weekend:

What We’re Watching: The Kissing Booth 2

To All the Boys is still my favorite Netflix rom-com series, but fine, we’ll give into this. After The Kissing Booth premiered and was incredibly successful, I decided months later that it was time for me to see what it was about. It wasn’t exactly what I had predicted, but in a good way. The characters were likable and I really did feel like I was rooting for them. In the sequel, it was thrilling to see Elle struggle in a different way. Noah is kind of a bad boyfriend? And we like the dynamics of the new characters that join the film. What you don’t see from the trailer is that they spend a significant amount of time in another location and the film revolves a lot around this plot. We’re a fan when trailers don’t reveal the entire movie.

What We’re Listening To: Taylor Swift – Folklore

While I consider myself a fan now, I can’t say that I haven’t wavered in the past. We aren’t big enough fans to listen to her album the night it premieres though. I actually don’t know if there’s anyone that I would do that for. When new albums come out that I am generally excited about, I like to set aside time for it. It’s not the kind of album that I’d have in the background because I want to pay attention to the lyrics. Plus, sometimes we write reviews on here and I need to be able to construct my thoughts. From the poll that I did on my stories, many people seem to lean positively on it. I think we’ll save it for tomorrow!

What We’re Wearing: A White Blouse

Already labeled the closet staple of quarantine, the white blouse is one of my favorite versatile pieces. It has saved me for work days when I want to look put together on top, but comfy while wearing it with plain black leggings or cozy shorts. It’s funny to think that I almost left this behind in Seattle on my last visit because it has been the piece I run to regularly these days.

What We’re Eating: Queen’s SF

I’ve been doing a good job of cooking at home when I can and only reserving take out for special occasions or once a week. Tomorrow, Kevin and I are exploring another neighborhood in the city and one place I’ve been excited to try is Queen’s which serves hot meals that you can take away, but also doubles as a market. We’re likely going to be doing some shopping while we’re there and I’m excited to try a few of their dishes!

Taylor Swift | Miss Americana

A couple years ago, I spent New Year’s Day watching her Reputation tour on Netflix. Maybe I didn’t need to because I got to see it in person, but it was still just as good. Lately, I’ve been really into the documentaries on Netflix including the very cult-favorite “Cheer.” This trailer is such a snippet of a lot of different things and leaves more to be desired, but we’ll definitely be watching it. In fact, we’ll probably watch it the night it premieres because we can’t resist watching it a day later behind everyone else.

The documentary will be released in select theaters and on Netflix on January 31st.

Diary of a Song | Lover

Every time Taylor Swift releases a new album, I’m always a little bit unsure at first. Despite that reservation, would you believe that I’ve actually attended her last two major stadium tours? Neither can I. I wasn’t super impressed with her first two single releases, but when “Lover” came around, everything stopped. It was the only single on her latest album to have me this captivated. Simple, pretty, classic – it embodied all the traits of a true love song. Some may ever say, a “first dance” song at a wedding?

Taylor Swift – Lover (First Dance Remix)

After hearing “Lover” for the first time, I wondered if I’d be hearing it at any of my upcoming weddings next year. Coming from someone who has an entire playlist of songs that can be used at weddings, it embodies many “first dance” traits. The pace and tempo, lyrics, and Taylor’s vocals are among a few of those. This is the third version of the song so far, but there’s a noticeable difference between this one, the original, and the one with Shawn Mendes. Any takes on whether we’ll hear a 4th version before the end of the year?

2019 VMA Performances Worth Seeing

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O6gdUM3ffRQ

I would have loved to have caught the entire award show last night, but I was a little tied up with work. I did, however, manage to catch the only performances I was looking forward to. MTV blessed the world with two Shawn Mendes’ performances and naturally I’m still deciding which I enjoyed more. On top of that, I was blown away by Normani and there was no doubt in my mind that I wouldn’t like Missy’s. It was a throwback for the ages.

An honorable mention goes to Taylor Swift because “Lover” is all I want to listen to ever.
