Love / Make 2015

photo 3

Last Sunday, Mandi and I had a total girls day by attending The Bold Italic’s Love / Make event. It’s basically a hipster wedding expo and from the minute we stepped foot into Terra Gallery in SOMA, we were in love. This may have also been because when we arrived, we were told that we were receiving two free drink tickets!

Earlier in the week, Mandi and I had made plans to get together, but weren’t quite set on the plans yet. When I had heard about Love / Make, I immediately texted her and we had a brief conversation about it:

Me: There’s a wedding expo on Sunday

Her: I know! The Bold Italic.

Me: I mean…we could go

Her: I mean would it be weird…? Becuase like we should if it’s not… We could go for Yow Yow, but really for us.

Me: haha we could go for Yow Yow

Her: Omg let’s go. Who are we kidding?

Billion Dollar Bully Slams Yelp

It’s pretty crazy how often I find myself using Yelp. If I’ve never been to a restaurant before, I completely rely on them to give me honest reviews. Since I’ve used it so much, I guess I never realized the backlash that the company has received from other business owners, but it makes sense. In this new documentary, local filmmaker Kaylie Milliken questions Yelp’s business practices and conducts interviews with business owners who feel their businesses have been vastly impacted by the types of reviews that are found on Yelp about them.

I’m actually really interested in watching this. The film is halfway done already.

Bay Bridge to Darken on Friday

There are so many pretty parts to San Francisco, but the Bay Bridge lit up is definitely near the top of the list. I remember when I used to have this view on a weekly basis and how much I a) loved it and b) took it for granted when it was no longer a constant. It is absolutely gorgeous. This coming Friday, however, the lights from the world’s largest LED light sculpture will come down as there was only a contract for a 2-year display.

People loved the Bay Lights so much, though, that the nonprofit organization behind it, Illuminate The Arts, managed to raise $4 million to make the exhibit a permanent fixture.

The 25,000 LEDs will come down so Caltrans can perform maintenance on the bridge cables. They’re planning on having them back up by February 2016, though, just in time for Super Bowl 50.

We’re so sad to see them go, but time flies and as long as they’ll be back, we won’t pout about it.

SF Rent Compared to Other Places in the US w/ Food

It’s no secret that rent in San Francisco and the Bay Area is pretty much absurd. In comparison to other cities around the rest of the country, we trump them all… and not in a good way. The worst part about coming home is catching up with my friends and talking about rent. So adult of us, right? And then they tell me that a nearby building in Bellevue is offering up a studio for $1,700 and I went, “Only 1,700?!” Because yes, that’s the kind of price I would jump for over what I am paying currently. The Bold Italic recently created a post comparing rent in San Francisco to other places in the country for the same price. It’s no shocker that everywhere else is better. Check out the full post here.

The French Laundry Reviewed By the Cutest Four-Year-Old

I don’t have to much context on The French Laundry, but what I do know is that it is a restaurant in San Francisco considered to be a “very big deal.” And by very big deal, I’m sure it means that all of the plates have food on them that will fit in the palm of your hand, the prices are higher than you would ever believe for just a few bites and you have to make a reservations months in advance. Somebody, please clarify this for me if I am wrong.

San Francisco blog The Bold Italic recently had the most darling 4-year old review the restaurant and as you can imagine she had quite a few words to say. The best part of this review though? The photographs of her trying out the dishes for the first time. Apparently this post is well on its way to becoming one of the blog’s most popular posts ever.

To read the entire review and trust. it’s worth the read – click here.
