Flourist Bakery and Flour Mill

all photos cred | Conrad Brown

When I was recently back home in Seattle, I was surprised to find that Capitol Hill’s neighborhood was completely transformed. There were alley ways full of shops, new restaurants, and a bakery on every single block. Everything was branded to a tee and it felt clean. I wanted to share this bit because it seems like that was the hope for Flourist Bakery and Flour Mill as well. It was the opportunity to redefine a Vancouver neighborhood alongside other shops that would come into play.

These photos from Conrad Brown are absolutely stunning. The way in which they are shot remind me of cafes in Asia.

Black + Colour Wedding

We’re a little bit early for Wedding Mondays, but I came across this two-toned wedding that I originally thought was a shoot at first and had to share! I’ve never seen anything quite like this before. If you’re looking for something that very much goes against all wedding traditions, this is it. The couple felt strongly that there was absolutely no white as part of their big day. One half of the couple claimed colour as their own while the other in black.

Ahead of the wedding, guests had only one rule they needed to follow. Couples needed to decide if they wanted to wear all black or dress in color. Individuals for the event were given an assigned color so that they could match the theme. In another exciting event, guests didn’t even know where the wedding would take place until the day of the event.

Samovar – San Francisco

When I first moved to the Bay Area, my goal was to immediately find replacements for all of my favorite spots in Seattle. Samovar quickly bacame that for me as I needed to replace Remedy Teas on the hill. I’ve been to Samovar twice now at two different locations. Like Remedy Teas, Samovar serves meals, snacks, and a high quality selection of teas. I had read not too long ago that they were putting in a new location in the Mission that was supposed to be a very simplified version of their other stores. They weren’t kidding. There aren’t any meals here, but you can pick up a snack if you’d like. I’d almost view this location as an express Samovar because there’s no seating at all and you aren’t meant to be perched up here for awhile like you might at other locations. Beautiful though? Yes, of  course.

Once Upon A Cream

We’ve been on an ice cream kick lately, but this time I’m not talking about the flavors – I’m just talking about the design and space! Once Upon A Cream can be found in Thailand in the beach resort town of Hua Hin. Designed by Bangkok’s MADA Design Factory, the shop was constructed to not be overly cute, but have elements of being whimsy and old-word dairy. They’ve pretty much nailed it! I’m a huge fan of the exposed machinery and copper fixtures highlighted.

IBM’s Smarter Cities Billboard Campaign

When I was kid, I used to be enamored with billboards. I liked the way they looked the way they were designed, and their purpose. Of course back then, advertisements were pretty bland. They’ve gotten a lot more interesting these days, which is why I wanted to share with you the “Smarter Cities” billboard campaign by IBM. Not only is it getting across a message, but it serves another functional purpose. Could we get this one above here in Seattle? I think the locals would love it.
