Demi Lovato and Jonas Brothers forced to cancel concert in Tampa

Last night, the stars of Camp Rock Demi Lovato and the Jonas Brothers canceled their concert in Tampa, Florida after their venue started flooding due to heavy rainfall. Fans were incredibly upset and didn’t hold back on expressing it. Demi Lovato received many messages from her angry fans via Twitter that she decided to take a break from the social media website altogether and going on hiatus.

The flood surrounded the seating areas near the stage and even backstage. The show won’t be rescheduled, but those who purchased tickets are able to seek refunds. To read more about the story click here.

Um sick.

The New Purity Ring

Move over Miley Cyrus and The Jonas Brothers, the purity ring is OUT. Now you can get the virginity certificate!

What does that mean exactly? It means now you have a super cool piece of paper stating that you’re a virgin (the cool way to let everyone know basically.)

Currently there are 215 virgins and counting! (oh c’mon I know there are more than that…)

Obtain your virginified certificate here

In the News… [some really messed up news]

– Despite his entire personal life being splashed across the front pages of newspapers and tabloids and his god-awful new nickname of “cheater Woods,” Tiger Woods was still voted the top athlete of the decade. Really…?

Bilboard has also declared Nickelback as the band of the decade. What is wrong with the world?

– Today, Cincinnati Bengals receiver Chris Henry passed away after he suffered severe injuries upon falling out of a pickup truck during a messy dispute with his wife. He was discovered on a residential road and rushed to the hospital, but it was too late. He was 26.

– Our country is beginning to lose that “hope” that we were instilled with when Barack Obama became President this year. The numbers and percentages regarding optimism and reflection over President Obama’s job in the office have been declining rapidly. The numbers are online somewhere I’m sure, I watched the segment on NBC nightly news last night. If you thought our unemployment rate was bad in Seattle… well it’s 50% in Detroit. Yeah, that’s terrible.

– When I was nine years old, I was singing along to Spice Girls. These days I guess it’s okay for a nine-year-old Noah Cyrus, sister of Miley Cyrus, to be singing Akon’s “Smack That.” Does the girl even know what the lyrics mean? Miley’s camp is cheering for her like it’s cute, it’s not cute. It’s just discomforting.

Reese Witherspoon and Jake Gyllenhaal have finally called it quits after three years together.

The Hills will be returning for a sixth season on MTV. Filming will start up after New Years. NOOOOOOOOOO!

On a happier note…

Kevin Jonas [The Jonas Brothers] and Danielle Deleasa will wed this weekend

Happy 20th Anniversary Simpsons! They premiered on television exactly 20 years ago.

Project Runway season 7 will return to Lifetime on January 14th.

American Apparel has just announced that they have launched a nail polish line.

Jingle Bell Bash

Every year, KISS 106.1 hosts Jingle Bell Bash and usually you can expect the typical mainstream artists that they always play on the radio. It’s become a little bit predictable when you see Fall Out Boy, The Pussycat Dolls, The Jonas Brothers and Natasha Bedingfield on a lineup

This year, KISS 106.1 has become… what’s the word…scene? It’s not quite mainstream completely, but they’ve chosen a lineup of bands that to the rest of the world might all sound similar. I know they’re not only because I’ve been listening to these bands for quite some time, but what is their  fan base going to think when they see no hip hop? They could’ve been expecting Lady Gaga, Jay Sean, or that adorable 15-year old Justin Beiber.

So who did KISS 106.1 choose for this year?

In the News…

Nick Jonas is going solo. Apparently, the name of his new solo act is called “Nick Jonas and the Administration.” How very…school ish of him? Wait, what does this mean for The Jonas Brothers?

Disney World is welcoming a new character to their theme park: Princess Tianna of Disney’s The Princess and the Frog.

Paramore’s new single to be released is “Brick by Boring Brick.”

Ben Stiller and Robert Deniro were on the set of their new movie yesterday, “Little Fockers.” …again really?

Tegan and Sara released their new album Sainthood today!

Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen are launching a new junior lines for JC Penney called “Olsenboye.” The clothes are actually decent looking, I would wear it. But then again, I’m also the same girl that said she would wear Stella McCartney’s line for Gap Kids. The line is set to debut in 600 stores starting February. Find out more about the line here

– Actress Keira Knightley will play the part of Eliza Doolittle in a remake of “My Fair Lady.”

Meet: John West

I first heard of John West from my friend Gelesia. The girl has been my concert/show company for almost two years so naturally I trust her instincts when it comes down to good music. Over the summer, she sent me a video of a live John West performance and from that moment on I was sold. His entire CD was on repeat for at least a month while I was at home over the summer. John West is an artist that reminds me a lot of the Seattle music I listen to. Although I have never seen him perform, his songs are very catchy and relatable to a wide audience. Plus he sounds just as good live on his tracks as he does on his CD, which believe it or not, that is not always the case.. John is great, let’s make him come to Seattle ya dig?

Q: Where are you originally from and has that influenced your sound if at all?

John West: I’m from Baton Rouge, Louisiana originally.  I would definitely say the southern feel, particularly the jazz and blues of Louisiana have influenced the music I’m making.  But so did Erykah Badu 🙂

Q: When I was sixteen years old, I knew I had wanted to work with music and PR when I planned my first concert. At what point did you realize, this is what I want to do?

J: In college I was studying art – cartooning to be exact, but music was something that I had pursued since I was a little kid singing in the church choir.  It wasn’t until my last year of college, when I started my first real band that I was like “Hmm, I think this is my real passion.”  Also, some of my music had been selected for an end-of-the year concert thing at Columbia College in Chicago where I was graduating from (another town that influenced my music).  So that random opportunity inspired me to really go after it.

Q: What’s a typical day for John West, give us a run through.

J: Wake up 9:30am.  200 crunches and 100 push-ups – not really.  More like 20 emails and 50 friend requests on Myspace/Facebook.  I try to get a workout in three times a week.   Emphasis on the word ‘try’.  During the past summer, I’d be out on the Santa Monica Promenade 4-6 days a week.  So that’d be from noon-8pm usually.  I have  lunch meetings sometimes, and even afternoon naps.  I tend to work on writing/recording music in the evening.  I stay up late watching “Mad Men” and “Californication“.

Q: Pick one: John Mayer, Jason Mraz, or Jack Johnson and why?

J: Ha, I like this one.  I’m gonna have to say John Mayer because of that song he did with Alicia Keys.  But I think hanging out with Jack Johnson could teach me a lot.  And Mraz is just dope and making music that he loves to make – I think he’s the most interesting of the bunch.

[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OkyFYKP7EvE]

Q: I follow you on Twitter, it sounds like you enjoy playing in lots of public places such as Third Street or the Promenade, why these places? I think it’s great that you are bringing the music to the public and expanding your fan base by the way, maybe more artists should do that!

J: Street performance is a great daily opportunity to get in front of hundreds if not thousands of new potential listeners, to refine your live show, to make a living, and to promote upcoming “traditional” shows.  It has it’s ups and downs, but I’ve been loving it this year.

Q: What is your guilty pleasure collaboration? Who would you like to collaborate with that your fans might find a bit surprising?

J: I would love to link up with Wil.I.Am, I think amazing things could happen.  Production is such a fascinating mystery to me.  There are some real geniuses out there.  Surprising collaboration?  How about John West & The Jonas Brothers? haha

Q: The music industry is a tough business to get into, what is one hardship you have endured and what piece of advice would you give to those who aspire to become a successful musician?

J: It takes time, and meanwhile you get older.  A hard thing to reconcile sometimes.  You have productive months, and then months where you feel lost.  My advice would be to make great music however you can.  I think it’s valuable to understand ProTools or Logic (two most popular recording software) so that you make your own music or at least communicate intelligently in the studio.  Promotion is so important.  Exposure.  Playing shows that make sense.  For more advice, email me.  I work as a new-model consultant haha

Q: What is on constant rotation on your iPod?

J: Pandora is my new iPod.  I love setting up a station around Friendly Fires and Cut Copy.  I like Thom Yorke’s new solo album (the single at least).  I want the soundtrack to “Away We Go”.  I like listening to jazz on 88.1

Katie note: I wholeheartedly recommend Friendly Fires and Cut Copy as well.

Q: Some of your songs revolve around love? Were these songs inspired by experience? What’s your idea of a perfect date and what traits do you look for in a girl?

J: Wow, what traits do I look for?  I just want someone real and kind.  Who loves to laugh and knows what it is to cry.  Besides that, who knows – there are wonderful people everywhere.  And yes, my love songs come from real experiences.

Q: Aside from yourself, who do you think is on the rise currently? Who should my readers be listening to?

J: I’m definitely no music expert, my finger is not on the pulse of the business, but I really dig that one rapper BluU-N-I are cool.  There are probably a bunch of great singer-songwriters I’ve never heard of that are awesome and about to get record deals.

Q: Are you considering touring at all? And if so, Seattle will make the cut right?

J: Girl, you know I’ve got Seattle covered.  Seriously though, expanding throughout the west coast is the next move for me.

Q: What’s new for John West? What can we expect from you in the next few months or year?

J: Autumn EP coming soon.  Big Roxy show on January 23rd.  Headlining on a Saturday night, wooo- new website in the works, more big moves coming soon 🙂

Me: Thank you so much John! Best of luck to you with your music and future!

J: Only two months late on the interview, but was my pleasure to answer your questions!  They got me thinking.

In The News…

It’s a BIG news day. These will be my only posts of the day unless something relevant comes up. It’s finals week so you’ll won’t be seeing too much until Thursday 🙂

Eunice Kennedy Shriver has passed away today at the age of 88. She was the founder of the Special Olympics.

– The famous Times Square Studio will no longer be home to MTV. The glass window is known for being a classic tradition during the live tapings of MTV’s hit show TRL – Total Request Live

– Last week news broke that Emmy Rosum had split with boyfriend Justin Siegel. Turns out that they were actually married and had a confidential marriage license.

Twilight Barbies. Enough said.

The trailer for Heath Ledger’s final film “The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus” has been released.

Jennifer Hudson gave birth to a baby boy with fiance David Otunga on Monday.

– In case you haven’t seen… Mac Book Touch

I hate Macs, but I still think it’s pretty. To read more about the article click here

Charlize Theron is gracing the cover of THE SEPTEMBER ’09 issue of Vogue and because of the financial crisis we’re all living in, the fashion magazine has scaled down to a mere 584 pages this year. oh man more ads and less text I’m sure.

– Did anyone watch the Teen Choice Awards last night? It was completely all about The Jonas Brothers, Miley Cyrus and Twilight. Granted, the Jo Bros were the hosts of the night so that’s understandable.

Kathy Griffin took Levi Johnston (Bristol Palin’s baby daddy) as her date. Then they talked about it on Larry King Live? and it was awkward to the max. This must be a sick joke.

– Miley Cyrus’s very controversial performance at the Teen Choice Awards performing “Party in the USA.”

[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UAzRn7yvWv0]

I guess the pole part wasn’t that bad… but I can see why it might make people uncomfortable. DAMN what does Nick Jonas think of Miley now?! And this song is really catchy… can’t stop listening to it.

– 60 year old grandpa John Moyer has been sentenced to two days in jail, 180 days of probation and 50 hours of community service for publicly groping Minnie Mouse at Walt Disney World back in June ie giving her “fake Minnie Mouse boobs a squeeze.”

How did this go down in court?

“It doesn’t matter she was grabbed. She’s just a mouse,” argued the prosecutor. “It’s not just a mouse. It’s a person … It’s not OK to go to the diner and pinch a waitress’ butt anymore, and it’s not OK to go to a theme park and pinch a character’s butt.”

Scott Schuman’s book “The Sartorialist,” featuring his profession as a photographer for street style will debut this Wednesday. I’ll be at Border’s reading it all Saturday.

– Some guy has a handgun strapped to his leg during a health care forum. In public. President Obama is attending and no one is doing anything about it really.

– and irrelevant Country music news. Brooks & Dunn are ending their music career after 20 years. no big deal.
