Review: The Pierces – Love You More EP

This couldn’t have been a better time for the sisterly duo to release their new EP Love You More. Known for providing the haunting theme song to ABC Family hit series Pretty Little Liars, The Pierces are more than just a mainstream soundtrack kind of a deal. “Secret” is both sassy and chilling, but you won’t find any song on their EP like it. Instead, expect to hear a sound that branches out to a more folk vibe. Maybe it’s just me, but Allison and Catherine Pierce bare a similar sound resemblance to legend Stevie Nicks. It’s true! If you’re looking for a more modern similarity, I’d say they remind me of Rilo Kiley and Warpaint – not as poppy, but also nothing short of amazing.

I actually received this EP two weeks ago, but I like to mull over my music and give them time to settle in before I write a review for them.

Track listing:

1. Love You More

2. We Are Stars

3. To The Grave

4. We Can Make It

The Pierces “Love You More” EP and mini tour

There has been so much buzz surrounding Pretty Little Liars lately that I wanted to continue on with that because like everyone else, I am addicted to this show. One of my favorite aspects of the show happens to be the music featured. Whoever has been compiling these songs together has been doing a fantastic job! It is honestly one of the best that I have seen since The OC.

Today, I wanted to focus on The Pierces because they’ve actually been doing so much and the television series has played a large part in that especially since they are responsible for that catchy opening theme “Secret.”

In celebration of the release of their latest EP, Love You Morevia iTunes, NY based sister act The Pierces will kick off four US performances starting tomorrow, January 13th.

They will first headline New York’s Mercury Lounge (tickets still available) before hitting Los Angeles for a trio of shows, opening for UK tour mate Lissie on January 15th at The Music Box and then joining Great Northern at KCRW’s It’s a School Night at Bardot on the 17th (FREE w/RSVP).  It all culminates with a headlining show at The Hotel Cafe on the 18th. Get your tickets HERE.

The Pierces’ forthcoming full length, You & I, which features Albert Hammond Jr (The Strokes), veteran pedal steel guitarist BJ Cole and an all star contribution on drums: Will Champion (Coldplay), Glenn Moule (Howling Bells) and Matt Romano (Little Joy), will be released later in 2011.

Music Spotlight: The Pierces

There are only 21 more days until the return of Pretty Little Liars! To get you all in the mood for the mid-season premiere I thought I would introduce you to The Pierces who sing the catchy opening to the series, “Secret.”

Their new album “You and I” will be dropping on March 14th, 2011. For this album, sisters Catherine and Allison Pierce worked with members of Coldplay, The Strokes, Howling Bells, and Little Joy.

The music video below is for their most recent single “Love You More” off of their new album so hopefully this will give you a little taste of what’s to come.

“The new songs are classy and atmospheric, a bit country, a bit Stevie Nicks, laden with blissful harmonies and a classic feel.”
