Jimmy and Pharrell are everything.
Jimmy and Pharrell are everything.
I grew up watching almost all of the reality singing television series, but none have ever really stuck with me as much as The Voice has. When I heard that Gwen Stefani and Pharrell were joining the judges’ table this season, I was excited, but I didn’t know if I had it in me to watch another season. I mean after six, you would’ve thought that we would have found all of the amazing singers by now. Not true. I caught the second day of blind auditions after work last night and was completely moved by two performances. I can’t believe I used the word moved. Let’s just say I liked them enough to throw them into a post and call it good.
I completely forgot how much I loved this song when I was younger until I was reminded of it watching Usher and Adam Levine cover it on The Voice last night. Throwback. Too good. What? I’m ded.
It’s kind of almost like The Voice sponsored a movie. How they got a pretty good lineup of actors/actresses is confusing to me. Would you guys watch this film?
The latest film from writer-director John Carney (ONCE), BEGIN AGAIN is a soul-stirring comedy about what happens when lost souls meet and make beautiful music together. Gretta (Keira Knightley) and her long-time boyfriend Dave (Adam Levine) are college sweethearts and songwriting partners who decamp for New York when he lands a deal with a major label. But the trappings of his new-found fame soon tempt Dave to stray, and a reeling, lovelorn Gretta is left on her own. Her world takes a turn for the better when Dan (Mark Ruffalo), a disgraced record-label exec, stumbles upon her performing on an East Village stage and is immediately captivated by her raw talent. From this chance encounter emerges an enchanting portrait of a mutually transformative collaboration, set to the soundtrack of a summer in New York City.
I wasn’t able to watch the season premiere of The Voice last night because I was too busy wasting my time on The Bachelor. When will I ever learn? It’s tough to choose between the two, but I discuss episodes of The Bachelor with my coworkers sometimes so I have to keep up with it. If it weren’t on though as the same time as The Voice, it would be another story.
I watch The Voice every season. It’s my favorite reality singing competition and I love that people that I used to listen to or smaller known singers are coming out and auditioning for it. Last night, Christina Grimmie appeared on the show and got all 4 chairs to turn around. No surprise there. We’ve been huge fans of Christina’s since 2010 when I first heard her rendition of Lady Gaga’s “Telephone.” She’s 19 now, but it is clear that her hard work has really paid off. As long as I’ve known her, she’s been a YouTube star and now I’m so excited for her to absolutely kill it on The Voice. After touring with Selena Gomez and performing on numerous shows and at a serious number of events, Christina will finally get to be recognized as an artist on her own.
We were invited to check out former Voice contestant Judith Hill perform while she opened for Josh Groban last week, but unfortunately we weren’t able to make it. Nonetheless, thought a post about her would be enlightening. Judith has a raspy yet smooth voice. Her style evokes soul and comfort. Check out her rendition of “You’ve Got A Friend” here:
I’m not going to say that we didn’t ever see this coming, but we definitely didn’t see this coming so soon! Adam Levine is reported engaged to Victoria’s Secret Angel Behati Prinsloo. The Voice judge and model split up this past spring, but have since decided to reconcile apparently. Levine revealed exclusively to PEOPLE magazine today that the couple are making their way to the alter. He proprosed to Behati this past weekend in Los Angeles. Congratulations to the couple! Behati is one lucky lady and will probably have many songs written about her from here on out.
When Christina performed her new single with Pitbull a couple of weeks ago at the Billboard Music Awards, all anyone could talk about was the singer’s incredible transformation! It seemed like just yesterday she was flaunting overly sexy outfits on The Voice, but flash forward to the award show and her dress was cute and fitted. Two words that we do not typically associate with Christina Aguilera.
So how did she do it? What’s her secret? If you know me at all, you know that I don’t pay too much attention to diets except for that one time I was slightly intrigued by juice cleanses. That lasted a day.
Apparently, Christina went on a dieting program that enabled her to lose 20lbs and spend just $1,394.69 on food a month. Now when you think about that number for a second, you might automatically believe that that is a pretty low price to pay for food. Kevin and I sat here trying to calculate if we actually spent that much on food for a month and we decided that it would be logical if it were for the two of us. Then again, we grocery shop; Christina doesn’t have to.
What’s on the menu for the songstress?
The meals include tasty options like pumpkin-apple quinoa oatmeal for breakfast, a chopped grilled steak salad with roasted tomatoes for lunch, and grilled ahi tuna with sweet potatoes and cauliflower for dinner with apple-cinnamon cheesecake for dessert.
Um, can we join the club too? In addition to a newly arranged diet, Christina is also weight training and practicing yoga. The singer will debut her new and refreshed look this coming fall for The Voice Season 5.
Ugh say it isn’t so!
Am I the only one who thought The Voice was so much better this season without her and Cee Lo. Shakira and Usher have done such a great job as coaches and with them alongside Adam Levine and Blake Shelton, the show has had more of a focus on talent and not just there being a spectacle all the time with Cee Lo’s cat and Christina’s inappropriate outfits. Seriously, who is doing her wardrobe? I’m disappointed in this decision, but what can you do?
They all just look so much happier in the photo above…
Yesterday evening, Cassadee became the winner of the third season of The Voice! And I’m sure other former scene kids, like myself, were thrilled. She performed alongside friends of mine back in the day while she was a part of Hey Monday and while I never had the chance to meet her, I knew many people just like Cassadee.
It is always so exciting to see someone “make it.” And I flip flop back and forth on this argument because the music snob in me has definitely expressed negativity when I have seen bands sellout, but then you have a case like Cassadee. Someone who has worked her way up and further developed her sound over the years. She left a band and went solo – that alone is difficult, but what’s great about The Voice (and probably every other reality music television series – but mainly The Voice) is that she worked her way through each round continuously improving and impressing all of us. Because her path has been so similar to my friends, I know what she’s gone through. It is the shows at all of the local venues and teen centers in every state. It’s performing at music festivals like Warped Tour to hundreds and also to audiences of just ten people. We never forgot about you Cassadee and as a teenager who loved shows and was one of those ten, thank you for treating us like we were a crowd of a thousand. Here at Yow Yow! – we are so proud of Cassadee and even though Yow Yow! is just run by me – when I say we – I mean Veronica and I.
Let’s start with bad news.
RIP Das Racist.
I’ll never forget the time I almost worked with you for a show and you asked me for $10K when my budget was $3K. That’s life. I do, however, want to thank you for giving me this gem.
There’s a video of me butchering this song, but out of love. I’m truly sorry about that.
In other news…
Every time I see Cassadee Pope perform on this season of The Voice, I am shaking and crying inside a little bit. The former scene kid in me loves her and is rooting for her to succeed. Hey Monday was glorious, but we all know that Cassadee was bringing something much more to the table and she is shining this season. No matter what happens in the end, I know she’ll be successful and I know that everyone else who used to watch her at the smaller venues and in local teen centers feel the same way.
Hi, sweet dreams.
or deny that I have caught on to this UK boy band craze. I’ve got a weird little crush on The Wanted, but seriously…did you WATCH that performance on The Voice tonight? If you did, you would be in the same place.
