Golden Gate Views

Tee – Everlane / Sweater + Scarf  – Oak + Fort / Pants – Uniqlo / Hat – Nordstrom

You guys, no matter what anyone ever says, I will never get tired of the Golden Gate Bridge. Even if you’re visiting me and this is the most touristy thing you want to do, I’ll pretend like I’m not excited, but internally it’s all I hope you’ll ask to do. The Golden Gate Bridge is the equivalent of Pike Place Market to me. It never gets old and it continues to be more beautiful with every visit. Even if it’s a nice day, I will never go close to the water unprepared without many layers. I actually topped this outfit with my denim jacket (not pictured!) but had it taken off for photos for fear that it would be too clunky.

Wrapped

Top – Everlane / Pants – Uniqlo / Scarf – Aritzia / Boots – J. Crew / Purse – Vince Camuto

Is it just me or does anyone else ever feel uncomfortably warm when they are out shopping? It’s the reason why shopping in the winter is so tough for me because when you’re already getting in and out of your clothes, it’s an added hassle to have to carry around your jacket. This blanket scarf from Aritzia is no stranger to Yow Yow! and you’ve likely been seeing this for years on the blog. The other alternative is that you likely own one yourself because they’ve made this in a variety of colors and prints and you’re convinced that you need to have at least more than one. On a weekend shopping trip in Hayes Valley, I braved the cold temperatures by only having this scarf as my outer layer and you know what? It was enough! I decided to wrap it in a new way by just draping it over my shoulders and with the way that my purse was on me, it created a nice little shawl and kept it all together. The same thing could have been done with a safety pin too, but I preferred the purse since it looks more natural.

As usual, I’m a fan of wearing all-black outfits, but I love the pops of burgundy and navy with this diamond blanket scarf. It’s a classic from Aritzia and if you haven’t snagged yourself one yet, make sure to keep your eyes peeled around fall for what I anticipate will be a new collection of these!

Our Favorite Looks of 2017

Duster – Azalea / Tee – Abercrombie & Fitch / Pants – Uniqlo / Boots – J. Crew

Sure, these are my 12 favorites look of the year, but they also overlap with 12 of my favorite backdrops from the year! If you’re someone who documents your OOTD’s, then you know that these two things kind of go hand in hand. This year, I experienced a major shift in my outfits and that is mostly due to a location change. Living in South Bay was a dream, but it meant that I was living in this sort of alternate reality where it was summertime every single day. The last four years of that are something that I would never give back, but now that I’m living in San Francisco, I’m glad that I get to dress for true weather. It reminds me of my days in Seattle.

In 2017, I embraced a very casual look and I pushed the boundaries of day to night wear. I showed love to some of my favorite accessories (bandana, baseball cap, choker) and revived some old favorites (Keds!) We didn’t find ourselves immersed in any crazy trends… but I did find some pieces worn by other people on Instagram that I went out and bought myself! It’s not really the same thing, you guys. It’s almost… worse.

Dark and Sub Pop

Tee – Sub Pop Records / Duster – Azalea / Pants – Uniqlo

For months, I had been looking for the perfect duster. I searched high and low at Aritzia, Nordstrom, Madewell, and then at one of my favorite San Francisco boutiques, Azalea, multiple times. The first time, they didn’t have one that was perfect for me, but the second time? It was just right. I love this look for several reasons. The duster is a piece that you can throw on over anything and more often than not, you won’t fail. I like wearing it casually with pants like above, but also with shorter dresses. If there’s anything that I am more cautious about, it’s that the bottom of the duster can sometimes drag on things and while it doesn’t hit the ground (which is gross) it gets pretty darn close. This Sub Pop tee is the third item that I own from this store at the Sea-Tac airport and is becoming a fast favorite. It’s so soft and the dark grey is very Seattle and makes me feel like I’m back home in the Northwest even though I’m far from it. It’s also a very modern updated look to my scene days from when I was an angsty little teenager, but not really all that angsty.

Yow Yow! at the SFMOMA

Top – Abercrombie & Fitch / Duster – Azalea / Jeggings – Uniqlo / Boots – J. Crew

The time in between when I left my last job and when I started my current job was the most calming and peaceful experience I’ve ever had. I can’t wait to share more about that later on with you. I had been wanting to check out the newly opened SFMOMA for quite some time, but never could find the opportunity to until I realized that I no longer had to work away all my weekends. Wenwen was a member of the museum so she took Leah and I one afternoon and it was so much fun! Growing up, I always loved going to museums. They were my favorite kind of field trips and because my father is an artist, I naturally grew up with art around me.

Beautiful Bernal Heights

Y’all! Happy long weekend! I’m so #blessed to be able to have four straight days off (sort of!) I’m doing some light work email only because I am working one day next week and taking that much time off feels very unproductive to me. What is everyone up to? Other than spending the entire day blogging, I’m beginning to start my move up to the city. The boxes have been taken home and instead of physically packing, I’m still in the stage of making mental notes about what I’m actually going to be packing. Let’s just call that… “progress” k? Back in February, my dearest friend Megan came for a visit and we spent the weekend exploring different parts of the Bay Area. Every time my friends visit, I try to go to one new place so that we can both experience something together. In the years of my living here, I had never been to the top of Bernal Heights. The view really is as magnificent as it looks and it’s just a short hike up to the top.

Neapolitan

Sweater – Madewell / Cardigan – Oak + Fort / Leggings – Aritzia / Socks – Uniqlo  / Boots – J. Crew

The minute I saw this wall, all I could think of was Neapolitan ice cream! It was never my favorite growing up, but what a color palette right? I wore this during a San Francisco winter day that wasn’t so blistery for a day of shopping and a movie… another personal uniform of mine! We’re gearing up for a move to San Francisco next month (more on that soon!) and I can’t wait to have all the backdrops of the city ready for me!

Cozy in Brandy

Top – Brandy Melville / Pants – Uniqlo / Shoes – Keds

95% of the time I prefer to get dressed up for work and to spend a little bit of time constructing new outfits together. For the other 5% though? I don’t have it in me. I wake up and decide I don’t really care how anyone sees me that day and for those days, I turn to outfits like these! To me, it’s still not very dressed up at all. I’m totally completely cozy and my coworkers will still turn to me and think that I put some new effort into an outfit. It’s not true. This Brandy Melville hoodie is one of the best things I own. I think it’s one of their signatures actually and they have it in tons of colors at their store at an affordable price. I’ve had this since I first moved here in 2013 and wear it on the reg. These pants are my Uniqlo jeggings which you’ve seen a million times before and these Keds are from middle school and still wearable, but not as white as they once were.

Parking Lot Green Dreams

Top – Aritzia / Sweater – Oak + Fort / Pants – Uniqlo

When all else fails, I know I can always rely on my Uniqlo jeggings (I know – hard to believe, right?) a solid top and a cardigan to throw on top of it. This is MY version of a jeans and a t-shirt look. This cardigan is made out of the fabric that reminds me of towels and bathrobes, but it’s the most cozy. I love getting wrapped up in this and to make things even better, it’s also perfectly oversized. When I was working in Mountain View, I just about exhausted every location on Castro Street to photograph with so this was one of the last shoots that we did. Don’t let the pretty greenery fool you. I’m totally in a parking lot… for a place I don’t even know.

Half-Tuck

Turtleneck and Skirt – Aritzia / Socks – Uniqlo / Boots – J. Crew / Bracelet – Madewell

I just realized that very recently I wrote on Yow Yow! about power outfits and clearly when I wrote that post, I forgot about this one. This Aritzia get-up is one of my all time favorites and mostly because it’s an outfit that I would have normally never gravitated towards. I had been seeing these two separate pieces from Aritzia pop up everywhere – in my emails, on their website, on display in their stores. Each time, I never had a desire to try them on or make a purchase. It was like the universe was trying to tell me something else though. Finally one day, I gave in. I used to think turtlenecks were old school and also, why would I have wanted a turtleneck that isn’t super thick and as sheer as this one? Turns out, it’s one of the most comfortable things I own. It’s actually really nice to not have it be very thick because it means I don’t get stuffy in the sweater. It’s also loose fitting enough to wear untucked or tucked into this perfect suede skirt. I didn’t want to purchase the skirt because I was afraid of not knowing how to take care of it. I also worried that it wouldn’t be as versatile, but it turns out even if it isn’t – it goes well with this turtleneck completely so that’s enough for me. The rest of the photos in this series make my laugh. The bracelet shot below makes it look like I think it’s a watch when it’s not. Also, we may have gone a little overboard on the editing in the last photo, but I like that my hair is the color of FALL and my surroundings.
