How We Holiday Party in 2016

Topshop Floral Jacquard Plunge Minidress – $140

How did we get to almost December already?! Today, I ventured out on my first shopping trip in a very long time to look for my holiday party dress. I know, I know, I can already hear some of you saying, “What? You didn’t buy this in the summertime like you did that one year?” No, I didn’t. This year, I really wanted to wear a two piece for my holiday party look – I wanted a golden shimmery skirt and a crop top of some kind – but tasteful. I headed to Nordstrom today and tried on 3 beautiful dresses (I’ll post them if I can find them online) AND that crop top / skirt combo that in my head, I thought I would love so much. We left for home empty handed, but that’s okay – we still have time and I know many of you are still looking for options as well so let’s start the search together. :)

Continue to follow us on Instagram Stories as we continue hunting for the dress we’ll be wearing to our company’s holiday party!

A Girl’s First Romper

screen-shot-2016-11-18-at-8-14-33-pm

Romper – Urban Outfitters / Belt – Mom’s / Shoes – Birkenstocks

For years, we avoided buying a romper. Why would I want to wear a piece that makes me feel even more childlike?! Well, an opportunity came for me earlier this year in which I was attending my first bachelorette party and the theme for one of the nights called for something in floral. Everyone knows that I’ve got this thing about being photographed in an “event” piece more than once so of course we went out on the hunt for something new and floral. I liked this romper from the minute I stepped into it. When photographed from the front, it kind of looks like a dress. Plus, the material is soft and comfortable to wear for any spring/summer day or night. The cut in the front is a little bit unique though and I still haven’t decided if I’m into it or not, but luckily, it’s not something I have to pull out that often. Also, when wearing this romper, it’s got a deep cut in the front so I always have to make sure to use a safety pin because we’re in our mid-20’s and we’re just a little bit too old to still be having wardrobe malfunctions. To give this romper more shape, I used a very old belt that I “borrowed” from my mom several years ago to hold it all together. Also contrary to what I believed, this romper makes me look sort of the opposite of child, right? My legs do NOT look like this IRL.

Black + White + Blue

Top – Aritzia / Skirt – Urban Outfitters / Sneakers – Nike / Sunglasses – Kate Spade

Never in my life did I ever feel daring enough to pull off an outfit like this for a day of Sunday errands and catching up with Mandi. I think on this Sunday morning, Mandi and I were just near her neighborhood grabbing bagels and normally if I’m driving up, I’ll dress pretty casually. But… we had that week where all we wanted to wear was black and white anyways so I thought… why not stay on theme. This black crop top from Aritzia is one of my favorites. I’ll tell you what it is not though – a) easy to put on and b) not wearable with most of my belongings and c) not exactly wearable to work though I have managed to do so. I like this a lot because it’s just not an outfit you would think to pair with sneakers, but I love every single one of these pieces so much – in my head it worked out and in execution, we just didn’t care if it would work out or not, but we did it anyways.

Black and White and Pink

Top – Abercrombie / Pants – Urban Outfitters / Shoes – Vince Camuto

I love these pants for their “Wow!” factor. I remember walking around the office in them a couple of years ago when someone stopped in their tracks and said to me, “Whoa. Pants.” Like, hi – yes. I’m wearing them. I guess I should preface by saying that I don’t wear pants or jeans a lot to work so whenever I do, that’s a shocker in itself. This was the first time that I had put all these pieces together and I wasn’t sure that it would work out. Now looking back at it – I think the stripes from the shirt and the pants are a bit much, but the pants and the shoes are a good match. Sometimes we can’t always get it right. :)

Summer, Let’s Not Say Goodbye

Screen Shot 2016-09-04 at 4.40.36 PM

Dress – Urban Outfitters / Belt – Anthropologie

We just got back from our last trip of the summer – a weekend getaway to Sonoma – and as we were heading back into the Bay Area, we started to notice the leaves on the trees turning. It. Is. Really. Happening. We’re a little excited, a lot a bit nervous, but there’s something that makes me feel really energized about going into my busiest season. I’ve actually had this dress since somewhere in college and since it’s pretty sheer, it’s not exactly work appropriate or wearing-out-in-public appropriate either. In fact, let’s call it more of a swimsuit coverup. I decided recently that since I don’t wear a whole lot of swimsuit coverups, I should try and find a way to make better use of it so I decided to buy a simple black slip (strapless) to not conflict with this dress which is a racerback and to wear it underneath. The slip, itself, doesn’t fit me perfectly and sometimes is pretty roomy, but it will do for the time being. To keep everything together, I added this turquoise belt that I bought from Anthropologie (also years ag0) and instead of cinching it at the waist – cinched it at the natural waist to give the dress more of that voluminous dimension.

Casual Park Moment

Top – Aritzia / Jeans – Urban Outfitters / Bandana – Amazon

We were clearly having a moment with this outfit here. Would you believe that I wore this to work? I know, I’m still trying to get over that too. What I love about this is that I’m still trying to figure out where this actually belongs. It’s still really unclear to me. I had decided in the spring though that I NEEDED a red bandana. I didn’t know how I was going to wear it or what I’d wear it with, but I needed to possess one. So instead of doing the normal thing and going to Michaels so that I could buy it for like… what $1.25, I had Kevin BUY this for me on Amazon Prime. Well, it definitely ended up being more than $1.25 and I had to pay for shipping. I’m not proud of myself. I love this though, the bandana makes all of my outfits so much more playful and the thing is, this outfit doesn’t need it to begin with so when we’re not playing dress up, we can look like a fully-functioning adult.

Is It Bikini Season Already?!

For Love & Lemons Ibiza Bikini Top / Bottom – $275

It isn’t. But I’m headed to Puerta Vallarta at the end of the month to celebrate one of my favorite girls getting married in 2016 and after assessing what I would be packing with me, I realized that I could probably use a few more swimsuits. It’s been awhile since I’ve actually been on a vacation like this or a beach – which is absurd right, cause I live in California? I didn’t think that I’d be able to find anything that I’d like right now much less know of any retailers having their collections out, but we’re in luck! Last year, we were really into cut-outs in swimsuits, but this year, we’re kind of gravitating towards something a little different. So here are a few things I’ve had my eye on and maybe you can all help me pick out one or two that you like best so we can get it ready for Mexico!

How We Holiday Party in 2015

Lovers + Friends Primrose Dress – $170

No matter how badly you want things to go a certain way, no amount of effort or time can change what’s supposed to actually happen. You would think that I would’ve learned this valuable lesson by now. For the last two years, I’ve worn black dresses – both very similar to each other. So in my third holiday party with my company, I vowed to be a little bit different. This year was going to be the year that I wore a white dress! So we started the search and the dream dress that I had wanted ran out the day after I had found it online. The dress that I ended up buying was beautiful and a steal as it was 50% off, but it didn’t feel like it was the one – I just wasn’t sure so I had to go to the mall and do my due dilligence – try on all the holiday party dresses to be sure that I was happy with the one I had purchased. Sure enough, I found one and it wasn’t white, but it was the one. You know how sometimes people talk about when they’ve found the one and they just know and they have no other reason that they give, but that one reason? That’s how I felt about this dress today and I can’t say the same for the others.

Now that I’ve finally got THE dress, we can write this post without much worry. I’ll be sure to share the one I actually wear next month in a later post, but since I’ve done some pre-research, the selection I’ve provided below is real good. I’ve scoured everything.

Craving Creamsicles

Processed with VSCOcam with a5 preset

Dress – Urban Outfitters / Sandals – by Qupid purchased at Moorea Seal boutique in Seattle

Just when we thought we had run out of shooting locations in Mountain View, we came across this gem of a wall. I must’ve worn these sandals 6 out of the 7 days during the week and this was a dress that I bought years ago that I decided to bring back to life. It was tucked away in my closet next to a bunch of other dresses that I hadn’t touched in awhile and at one point, thought that I would donate it. I at least didn’t think it was a good fit for the summer because the fabric feels more like it is for fall and winter, but we made it work. Let’s just call it the dress for all seasons. This scarf was given to me by my mom and I had never worn this all together before, but it’s quite a match isn’t it?

Summer Uniform

IMG_3868

Dress – Urban Outfitters / Sandals – Qupid purchased at Moorea Seal in Seattle

I felt like I was a little bit under pressure writing this post because this really was my summer uniform, but this week felt more like fall than anything else! I wanted to get this dress into a post before we completely shifted seasons. Summer in the Bay Area is so easy. There were so many days where all I had to do was throw on a dress, my favorite pair of sandals and if I had some extra time – wave my hair. I’m going to miss how seamless this all was, but I’m really looking forward to fall and bundling up in layers. It’s been extra cold in the office lately and outside so those chunky sweaters are what I’m longing for.

Double Denim

Lace top – Urban Outfitters / Denim shirt – Madewell / Sandals – Moorea Seal

We were feeling some major summer vibes during this day. I normally wouldn’t have doubled up on the denim like this, but I thought this look kind of worked especially since they were two different shades. This outfit is okay, but really this photo is for that magnificent backdrop. It was everything that we were looking for!

Proud Owner:

This past week, I learned something very important about myself. I am very easily influenced by things I see on Instagram and after seeing a piece on another blogger, I immediately believe that I have to own that same piece. It happened twice this week. So I have a problem. This dress was one of them. I actually saw this in a bright neon yellow/mustard being worn by a girl who works at one of the Free People stores back in Seattle who I follow and without even trying it on, my first thought was – “how can I buy this right now?” I couldn’t find it online unfortunately, but I did manage to find my way to an Urban Outfitters this past week where I discovered this in blue and after pulling it over my head, it was basically a done deal. The back cuts down pretty low and deep so it’s not something that would be appropriate for work I don’t think, but it’s completely perfect for a night out. I bought this in a royal blue… but I may buy it in the yellow too.

What to Wear: Summer Weddings 2015

Self-Portrait Azalea Dress – $380

Well wedding season is already underway, but it’s never too late because if you’re like any girl I know then you’re always panicking last minute about what to wear. Or if you’re like me, you’ve planned out what you’re going to wear to a wedding months in advance, but feel you need another option at the last minute so you start the hunt again one weekend before the event. Whatever the case, it’s always good to have a variety in your closet for those emergencies.

I received my save the date from my favorite LA bf yesterday for her wedding next year and… that is exactly what is triggering this post! :) Should I start looking for a dress 9 months in advance for this wedding? Y/N?

Also, this is a good time to remind you all of a few things. Weddings are about the couple’s day. Do not wear white. Do not wear cream. Do not wear off white. If your dress is printed or patterned with a white base, don’t even wear that. There are so many dress options in this world and there’s no reason for you to be wearing anything resembling white on this day. A wedding is also not a time for you to take any fashion risks. Don’t wear anything that could pose as a wardrobe malfunction in any way shape or form.

Instead opt for soft prints and patterns and pastels. Gravitate towards romantic fabrics like ruffles, lace, and scalloped edges. Ladies – you know how to do this! Don’t be the one that messes it up because trust – wedding guests notice and they will talk about you.
