Virgin America’s First Class Shoe

This past fall, Virgin America collaborated with Eleven and Milan’s SearchnDesign to create a truly one-of-a-kind pair of sneakers. I mean… have you ever seen a pair of sneakers with wifi and a video screen built in? Is this something that you would ever necessarily need? Maybe not, but it’s still cool to say that you have them! While you may end up preferring your Vessi footwear over these, it’s hard to dispute the innovation! Made out of Italian leather (the same ones that Virgin America’s first class seats are made of) these are the first of its kind to have all of these features and a built in charger. What can’t these sneakers do? There was only one pair made and they were auctioned off on eBay for a whopping $97,877.77. Wow. Don’t worry, it’s all going to charity and the proceeds were given to Soles4Souls, which is committed to fighting poverty through clothing and shoes distribution.

Virgin America Debuts Safety Video

[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DtyfiPIHsIg&feature=youtu.be]

The airline debuted a new safety video this morning and we’re not exactly sure how we feel about it. It’s similar to an episode of Glee in some ways, but it is definitely a little bit more exciting than the presentations we have to sit through on any other airline.

Recent College Grads Equipped With Advice

tumblr_l2lx84w9k81qai1rho1_500

I noticed a slight trend today of articles posted on LinkedIn and all of them had to do with advice recent grads should take. Now in my last post, I discussed that advice should not always be taken in at once. For one, it’s too much information. Two, it’s not always applicable, but it will be when the “timing is right.” I can’t even begin to tell you how much I hate saying that last part and how much it has been said to me in the last few months, but in this moment right now, nothing seemed more fitting.

Whether it was a trend on LinkedIn or the fact that my talk is coming up and I am trying to solidify my material, every article I read today on this subject was beneficial. I wish that I had this advice when I came out of college. Would I have taken it as seriously? Probably not. That’s the problem that my professor  who’s class I am speaking to posed to me as a problem. Even though I would have this advice to give to these students, they may not see the value because they haven’t had the year of working experience that I have just had. Regardless, I do hope that my advice will spark something – a change, an opinion, or inspiration.

Here are the articles and posts that I read today:

Virgin America – The Matchmaker

It’s no secret that flying on Virgin America is what we call a good decision. Everything that you can do on your flight makes traveling go by so much faster! With music, food, movies, chatting from seat-to-seat, Richard Branson is now tapping into another hot market. Dating. For the past couple of weeks, we’ve been talking about how difficult it can be to date these days, but would you believe that many people actually…meet on flights? Everything starts with a good conversation and Branson knows that. A new feature that you can find on Virgin America flights is the ability for passengers to send each other anonymous drinks, snacks, and meals…because nothing says ‘I’m into you’ more than filling a person’s stomach! If that isn’t obvious enough, you can also send a passenger a pretty blunt text about your feelings. That’s a little too much for us, but to each his/her own.

Weekend: 5 Things

It’s December and I could not be more excited about being so close to a new year already! To kick off the holiday season, I spent no time at all Christmas shopping and instead indulging in some of my favorite guilty vices. The life of a 22-year old, right?

1. To start off my Friday evening, boy and I went out to Nibbana in Bellevue for some Thai food and then off to Joey’s with a couple of friends for my most favorite drink of all – The Bellini.

Banana Republic for Virgin America

[photo cred | Fashionista ]

The airline announced last week that they would be collaborating with Banana Republic to roll out new uniforms beginning August 8, 2012.

They are actually pretty snazzy, but would you expect anything less?

Virgin America Adds Another Stop

[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=s_ZmFkMLhy8]

Some people have unhealthy obsessions. I’ve got an obsession that I don’t actually pursue unless it’s convenient. And it’s flying. I love flying. I love airports. I love the news stand and eating airport food and getting a Starbucks before getting on a flight. I like purchasing a magazine and reading it slowly to see if it will last me the entire flight and buying a pack of Orbit Sweet Mint gum to distract me from my ears popping. I like talking to other people, before the flight, on the flight, and after the flight. According to my friends, they all would hate sitting next to someone like me, but oh my goodness – I just think it’s great.

Unfortunately, I won’t be flying for my spring break, but I’m crossing my fingers that there will be some more flights in my future.

Virgin America added a new stop today to Portland, Oregon and made this video to accompany the news. I was really just using this piece of information to further express my love for flying and airports…

AOL Mystery Flyer

I love airports. I don’t enjoy the build up that leads to flying… taking off or even landing. Those make me anxious. I’ve decided though that I am intrigued by the energy that surrounds airports. Everyone there has a story to tell. I’ve met some pretty interesting people through my flights… a boy one year younger than me when I was 13 who lived nearby and would later end up attending a rival high school of mine. An elderly couple that made sure I was okay after the two kids in front of me threw up their Happy Meals mid-flight. I now wish I would’ve kept a journal of all these people that I’ve encountered along the way.

For the most part, I’ve been lucky to be in the presence of nice passengers. There are some people that are not so lucky though.  Flying makes people uneasy – it’s kind of a known fact. When people are uneasy, they become demanding. AOL Mystery Flyer documents the travels of one person (it’s a mystery I don’t know the gender!) flying on ten different flights over the next few weeks on major airline. He will then be judging each airline with a report card based on six areas regarding customer service. These demands are the typical demands any normal passenger would ask, but more heightened ranging from switching seats before a flight, and asking for certain things while on a flight.

The first report card is for Jet Blue. I really like them and they rank second for me behind Virgin America.

Virgin gives to their guests

As if they don’t give us enough already! I’m already anxious for the day I get to fly Virgin again. Virgin America and Google have teamed up together to give their flyers free Wi-Fi during this upcoming holiday season. The airline already offers Wi-Fi currently provided by Gogo at a price that ranges from $5.95-$12.95.  This special offer during the holidays however, will be available Nov. 10, 2009-Jan. 15, 2010.

Virgin America adds Banh Mi to their Flight Menu

There are only two things I’m going to say about this.

If you haven’t flown Virgin, you really need to.

If you haven’t eaten Banh Mi, you need to do that also.

Now you can accomplish both things in one day!

I must be dreaming if two of some of my favorite things are collaborating. Flying Virgin was quite possibly one of the best flight experiences I’ve ever had and I have done my fair share of traveling. I can safely say that I will never fly anything but Virgin. Where else can you play video games, watch 17 Again w/ dreamboat Zac Efron AND watch continuous episodes of Wizards of Waverly Place on their satellite TV?

I’ve been eating Banh Mi since I was a little girl and now I’m surprised to see that it’s hitting the mainstream of becoming a flight meal, but it wouldn’t be on the menu if it wasn’t good.
