A Wedding Monday

Quyn Duong/Diligent Artists

We knew it wouldn’t be very long until we made a return to Wedding Mondays. I’ve always loved the series, but felt that if I couldn’t deliver on a weekly basis that it may not be worth having anymore. While we started out sharing wedding videos with the blog, I’ve found that the actual coverage and stories are what I’m being drawn to these days. Both Vogue and The Cut do an incredible job of this by the way.

Both Heesun and Brian threw a celebration that was intimately beautiful. And even though we’re far off from this ourselves, it’s the kind of wedding that my style now gravitates towards. Held at the Wythe Hotel in Brooklyn, the wedding was as elegant as can be, but in the most understated way. Favorite aspects of this story? That the couple prioritized food and even had a special nod to their Korean heritage and the fact that their DJ played K-Pop. What a dream!

A Goodbye to Wedding Mondays

When I first started Yow Yow! I didn’t want to hone in on one specific theme. I wanted to keep things broad so that I could always continue to write about whatever I wanted. This is something I still want today, but the things that I want to write about are shifting. Earlier this year, we said goodbye to “Sunday Words” our weekly dose of inspirational quotes. And now it’s time to say goodbye to “Wedding Mondays.” Both of these series have been with Yow Yow! since at least 2012 so while it isn’t easy to wind down, it does feel right.

I think it’s perfectly normal to want different things for your blog within an 11-year time span. I’ve done a lot of growing up during this time. It doesn’t mean that I don’t like weddings or that I will stop appreciating the details of a beautiful wedding or discontinue watching wedding videos. I’m grateful that the series has lasted as long as it did, but something that I’m realizing in 2020 is that I don’t want my content to feel like an obligation. Having a regular series is a huge undertaking. Keeping this blog afloat while having a day job at the same time has never been easy for us. Winding down this series means that we can bring the focus back to content that has become more important to me.

I want to sincerely thank those of you who came to Yow Yow! every week for this feature. We’ve seen some incredible weddings over the years and shared videos that were truly pieces of art and a trigger for tears. I had the chance to share the weddings of friends (always with their permission) and spin off the Wedding Wednesdays series with Mandi covering her entire wedding planning process. And lastly, having the chance to experience the Nordstrom Wedding Suite and capturing all of the details from the Seattle flagship will always be a special memory.

Wedding Mondays

It is both heartbreaking and inspiring to see couples that I know and don’t know persevering through this time. None of them could have imagined what 2020 would have in store for them. All of them envisioned saying those two words solidifying their partnership and making it official official. However, all of them know that it’s not just those two words that make a partnership. It’s all not a grand ceremony that make a partnership. I appreciate both the couples that have moved their dates out of the concern and safety for others or the couples that have pressed on making adjustments to what they originally dreamed of.

Briana and Kris were one of those couples who had a wedding impacted by COVID-19, but decided they couldn’t wait until next year. Instead they threw the most beautiful intimate ceremony with guests that all promised to get tested beforehand. Vogue did such a beautiful job of capturing the special moment in their day through this summary and the photos will stick with you long after you’re done reading.

Wedding Mondays

When we first started doing Wedding Mondays, the idea was always to feature a video. It’s funny to look back thinking that the video was the make or break for these posts. Lately, I’ve found myself gravitating towards these longer-form wedding features particularly by [The Cut]. It’s the combination of the photographers capturing just the right images we swoon over and spending more time reading about the couple’s stories. Don’t get me wrong. I’ve loved the wedding blogs that I’ve spent years pining over, but so much of it was about the aesthetic and the vendors. The Cut does a great job of truly highlighting these individuals.

I loved Sarah and Ryan’s story. Also, doesn’t Sarah just look like the coolest bride ever? From start to finish, I enjoyed reading every part about this wedding day from the ceremony at Brooklyn Bridge Park to the reception at the intimate space at a restaurant for their friends and family.

Wedding Mondays

I was hoping that I would find coverage on this “micro” wedding that occurred this past week and lo and behold, Vogue had it featured. Like many other couples, Kerry Anne and Michael’s dream wedding was also impacted by COVID-19. The date for their “micro” wedding had been set, but while they were planning for their day, protests around the country were being ignited. While some couples may have opted to avoid the commotion, Kerry Anne and Michael found themselves right in the middle. These photographs are not only stunning, but they will go down in history for being a part of this iconic and massive movement.

It hasn’t been easy seeing all of my friends having to postpone what will be the most important day in their lives. This was supposed to be a big wedding year for us and it’s all of a sudden not. Some of my friends have decided to postpone an entire year while others are still finding ways to honor their original date. I’ve been waiting to find the perfect socially distanced quarantine wedding to share with all of you for Wedding Mondays and I think we did!

Elaine Welteroth and Jonathan Singletary met as kids at church through their mothers. It wasn’t until adulthood that they would finally end up together. Their story depicts how they planned to marry in their hometown of where they met back home, but COVID-19 had other plans. Not wanting to let go of their original date – 5/10/20 the couple moved forward and married right on their stoop. Following the exchanging of their vows was the best wedding block party I’ve ever seen! The photos are a must to look at, but we’ve also got a video that captures it all. Wedding Mondays

We’re headed into what I already know is going to be a difficult week. San Francisco’s gloom has rolled in, but that dark cloud of COVID-19 is still hanging over us. As much as possible, I want to try and spread some joy on Yow Yow! so we’ll do our best to keep it up with the positivity here. I randomly caught this wedding video recently while I was in Thailand. Without knowing anything about the couple at all, I still felt touched by it and wanted to share here.

One thing that has hit hard with COVID-19 is that because of the measures we are taking to protect ourselves, we can’t celebrate. Two of my close friends have had to put their wedding on hold. Under the celebration umbrella, funerals and birthdays are also stalled. I know this isn’t easy for anyone and it’s going to be hard for a long time, but we have to do this together.

Yow Yow’s Top 10 Posts of 2019

Happy New Year everyone! This is still one of those posts that is such a wild card to me every year. For as long as I’ve had Yow Yow! you would think that I would know better about what types of posts do well and don’t. After 11 years, I still haven’t cracked it and I think that’s because we’ve changed so much over the years.

Here is your top 10 from 2019:

Wedding Mondays

Since I’m on my holiday vacation, I finally have some time to share the posts that I want to share! We haven’t been consistent with Wedding Mondays in the last year and that may be for a couple of reasons. Wedding videos are getting to be a lot longer! They pile up for me at the end of every week and instead of looking forward to them like I used to, Wedding Mondays feels like a chore. I’m into my 2nd week of vacation though and tonight, the idea of wedding videos felt calming to me. As the years go on, I become a bit pickier. I’m surprised at how quickly this caught my attention and became the one I wanted to post though.

From Lily’s dress to the Southwestern wedding venue, every detail seemed like a dream. It looked like the type of party you wanted to go to. It’s a celebration, but casual and not too stuffy the way some weddings often times feel. You never hear Lily and David speak in this video, but from their interactions and body language, you can tell that they are a fun and playful couple.

For all of the details, I highly recommend checking out their post on [Green Wedding Shoes]

Wedding Mondays

It’s the night before I leave for the holidays and I should definitely be packing right now. Instead, we’re taking more than several minutes to share with you my latest and favorit-est wedding video. If you’ve been following Yow Yow! since the beginning then you know I’m one of Bri Emery’s biggest fans. She is the founder behind [designlovefest] and an incredible designer and creator. Bri is one of the original bloggers that I followed when I was first starting out and I continue to be inspired by her still.

Even when I was designing my [graduation project], Bri’s style and creativity made its way into the final product. When I came across her wedding feature on Green Wedding Shoes, I knew without a doubt, that I would love it. Shot by Sharkpig, another one of my favorite videography vendors, the video is 11 minutes of pure love and joy.

I think you all are really going to love this one!
