Barbie Campaign Team

We are less than 100 days away from election day and Barbie is sending the message to young girls about who they can be. The Barbie campaign team highlights a number of roles including the candidate, campaign manager, fundraiser and the voter herself. These diverse set of dolls were designed to inspire girls to see themselves in roles that make up a winning campaign. We love this very timely release! While an election themed Barbie was first released in 1992, this package looks a bit different. Instead of one individual, it is a team and highlighting different ethnicities including a Black candidate. The set was released yesterday and is retailing for $39.99.

Song of the Day

Drake – Nice For What

Is this going to be my favorite music video of the year? Most likely. With lyrics like:

You’ve been inside, know you like to lay low
I’ve been peepin’ what you bringin’ to the table
Workin’ hard, girl, everything paid for
First, last phone bill, car note, cable

you just know that this song is all about supporting strong and powerful women. To take things even a step further, Drake asked all of his lady friends who spread that power to join him in this music video. You’ll find cameos from Olivia Wilde, Misty Copeland, Issa Rae, Rashida Jones, Jourdan Dunn, Tracee Ellis Ross, Tiffany Haddish, Yara Shahidi, Zoe Saldana, Elizabeth Lejonhjärta, Victoria Lejonhjärta, Letitia Wright, Bria Vinaite, Emma Roberts, Syd and Michelle Rodriguez. Ladies, this song is for us. Add it to your girl anthems playlist; I know I will. Let’s also not forget that this song samples Lauryn Hill’s “Ex-Factor.”

50 Women Who Rock Seattle

Seattle is such an amazing city to grow up in. I’ve been surrounded by the music industry here since I was just 16 years old and have continuously looked up to female artists, bookers, managers, etc. For as long as I’ve known, I’ve never thought that anything was impossible in this city and Seattle Weekly highlighted 50 women who are paving the way for Seattle music through their careers. On this list are Rachel Flotard, Cristina Bautista, Megan Seling, THEEsatisfaction, to name a few. Check out the full list here.

RIP Dodos’ Guitarist Christopher Reimer

photo cred | Flemish Eye

[Reimer – second from right]

I was devastated when I heard that 26-year old Christopher Reimer, a guitarist for one of my favorite bands The Dodos and Women, passed away yesterday. Reimer was a fantastic guitar player and his work with the band over the last year will never be forgotten. As reported by the Calgary Herald, Reimer passed away in his sleep.

In memory of Christopher Reimer, today’s Song of the Day is one of my favorites –  “When Will You Go ” by The Dodos.
