Holiday Party Wear 2019

Gift of Love Black Backless Long Sleeve Bodycon Dress – $46

I did a first pass at the mall last week for holiday party dresses and while I wasn’t looking too hard, nothing called out to me. That’s never a good sign. I also realized that for the first time this year, I’m not looking forward to holiday party dress shopping. Mainly, that might be because I realized that whenever you’re hunting for something specific or under a timeline, you’ll never find it. Hence the reason why I found a dress a couple years ago over the summer months.

That only works maybe 50% of the time. Retailers prepare for holiday party season and create collections that come out right about now. The positive is that you’ll have a lot to choose from, but run the risk of having wearing the same outfit as another attendee. This year, I decided to try something I’ve never done before. Before writing this post every year, I always look at last year’s. There happened to be a dress from my guide in 2018 that is still available that I decided to purchase. Sure, it’s last season or last year whatever. It is, however, on sale and still something I’m interested in. Here’s to hoping it fits and that it has a generous return policy if needed. If all else fails, at least we have this guide.

The Closet: October 2019

[Everlane – The Day Boot] – $225

After spending last week in Seattle and being hit hard with a burst of cold, I couldn’t wait to get back to California. Upon arrival, we celebrated a week that was high 70’s and 80’s and I felt blessed. While it feels a little abnormal to still be wearing dresses and walking out the door without a jacket, it is something I’m not going to take for granted. Now that we’ve hit the weekend, the transition from summer to fall is getting real. As I type, I’m perched up right next to my space heater and cozied up in my warmest wool sweater. There are so many pieces that are essential for fall that you just couldn’t get away with in summer. Here are my favorites for the month of October!

The Closet: September 2019

[Free People Dylan Lace-Up Boot] – $178

Right about now is when the seasons start to transition and like every year, it still manages to catch me by surprise. It was a scorching 90 something this week in the city, but in just a matter of days I was reminded that our San Francisco summer is over. My body isn’t ready for this. My mental state isn’t even quite ready for this. That’s mostly because I’m headed to Orlando later on this week and nothing could prepare me for the hot and humid mess that will be. Slowly, but surely though fall is starting to sink in. I can no longer where my strappy dresses without a sweater over them. Today, I tried on the coziest of cozy cardigans and took it home with me. According to this post though, Zara is nailin’ it.

The Closet: July 2019

Solid & Striped The Violet – Top: $89 $44 Bottom: $89 $44

Summer 2019 was the year that we really leaned into summer. In prior years, I never did much shopping during this time because I was saving everything up for the fall. That was my back to school shopping season and truly a transition period. However, San Francisco graced us with beautiful summer days this year and while I didn’t need another swimsuit or another dress, I doubled down.

This summer, more than ever, we embraced color and prints. I purchased my first leopard print dress in a vibrant orange. For a swimsuit, I ventured out of the one-piece and got the new lingerie bikini style that is a hit or miss with the critics. I regret none of my purchases! In this “Closet” post, I’m sharing more of what I didn’t get a chance to buy, but am hoping one of you will fall in love with!

Zara’s Kids Collection Is What I Wish I Owned

Every so often, someone will say to me, “Shopping must be so easy for you! You’re so small you can shop in the kids section, can’t you?”

I bet when people say this, they think they’re being complimentary, but here’s where they are wrong. If the world so perfectly worked out that way, we’d be in great shape. I’d be spending less money. However, I’m not a kid anymore. Though petite sized, I am a woman. I have hips and a torso and a bra size. This isn’t a post about me getting on my high horse about this though. That being said, we are here to express envy on [Zara’s] current kids collection. We want to own everything and hope in the next few weeks they will actually create this in all women’s sizes.

Camel Colored Things

Denim Jacket – Gap / Top – Zara / Pants – Uniqlo / Booties – Munro by Nordstrom

Kevin hates being my photographer, but we have to admit – he does a pretty good job right? While I’m so grateful for everyone that I’ve ever had shoot for me, I’m lucky to have a brother that gets it on the very first take. And then produces the best shots even after that so that there are no bad takes! Earlier this fall, I had a strong craving for camel colored pieces. The perfect camel coat was everywhere this past season, but since I wasn’t ready to jump right into it, I settled for a simple sweater top from Zara. It pairs so nicely with my Uniqlo jeggings (surprise!) and my denim jacket.

The Closet: June 2019

Wilfred Isabelle Dress$128 $88

I recently went on a bit of a shopping spree after going months on end without buying anything. It was a huge accomplishment, but there felt like a dramatic shift between spring and summer. I guess I also looked at my closet and decided that I needed a new wardrobe. Here are a few of my favorite summer pieces below! This year, we’re loving colors, prints, sandals and bags. In a couple of weeks, the Nordstrom Anniversary sale will be here and I can’t wait to share with you what’s on my list.

The Closet: February 2019

Vince V-neck Bias Cut Dress$295 – $176.98

We are headed into spring territory! These posts are always so dangerous for me to write because they make my wallet weak. It’s easy to make a wishlist and even easier to make an online purchase. Like we mentioned in the last Closet post though, 2019 is all about being a little bit more financially responsible. Gone are the days where I would make a purchase on a weekly basis or whenever I was having a bad day. There are other cures for self love than spending money. Since we’ve got spring on the brain though, I’m starting to think about what dresses I am in need of. You’ll also see a number of heels in this post because some of my classics are getting worn down to the bone. As always, we’re seeking recommendations if anyone has any!

Zara’s New Logo

I’ve never been so great with change. When a new logo is typically revealed, I find myself having a hard time accepting it at first. I like to think over time, it just falls into oblivion and it becomes a thing that I no longer think about. Or it could be like the time Gap redid their logo and I never stopped thinking about how much I disliked it. I wonder where Zara will fall on that spectrum for us.

Designed by advertising agency Baron & Baron, Zara’s letters are all on top of each other. This is the 2nd time in its 45 years of existing that the retailer has changed its logo. What’s the verdict here, y’all?

Holiday Party Wear 2018

For Love and Lemons Marquee Maxi Dress – $270

Every year, holiday party season always comes up so fast! I’m excited this year to have a true holiday party with my current company and the opportunity to dress up. As soon as I discovered the date, I was off to the races. There are actually so many options this holiday season that I’m swooning over, but the trouble with every year is that I have in my mind what I already want. The hard part of that is that it often times is hard to find where that exists. Since I hold onto that dream of a dress for so long, I often don’t find it and find myself stressing last minute.

This year’s party will be on a Friday – a first for me! It’s also unfortunately the first year where Mandi and I won’t be getting ready together. I’ll be using my new favorite startup Glamsquad for hair and makeup though which I can’t say enough good things about. Lastly, I’ve got a couple of ideas in mind for what I want to wear, but I’m not quite ready to share that yet. What I do know is that I want to stay away from lace if I can and sleeves because we did that last year. If things don’t work out for me, at least I’ve got a post to fall back on.

To get into the spirit of creating this post, I just looked at last years post and am surprised at how much my tastes have changed in the last year. Since my party is earlier, I wanted to start this post early. We’re also going to release it earlier than any other year prior. Enjoy!
